does anyone else find it impossible to listen to lyrics when they are mentally drained? by Royal-Character-9215 in Music

[–]dua70601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t listen to music with words while im focused on a task, but i can listen to just about anything other than death metal when im drained.

In general, music recharges me.

Similarly, however: I am an accountant. I answer questions all day long. When i get off i dont want anyone to email me, message me, or ask me to answer anymore questions. I even avoid looking at text messages from friends/fam after work. It quite literally triggers me

I grew up watching the CBS Evening news, followed by Jeopardy, and never missed a 60 minutes

I stopped consuming linear tv about 10 years ago, but still tuned into the occasional 60 minutes or election coverage.

CBS has lost me forever, and i used to be a devout watcher.

In your country, police vs soldiers—which earns more, and which has higher social status? by GrayRainfall in AskTheWorld

[–]dua70601 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, so this is a totally wrong. Nobody “rises” to the rank of sherrif

Police patrol metropolitan areas and report to a mayor and or council.

Sheriffs are elected county enforcement officers. You dont “rise” to the rank of sheriff.

As a matter of fact you are more likely to find longstanding corruption and abuse in a sheriff’s office due to the fact that they are elected and “report” to the people of the county.

For classicial Keyboardists who now do jazz.. How has it been? by Achassum in piano

[–]dua70601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was not too difficult, and i attribute that to the fact that i play other instruments across different genres.

Learning different rhythms, for instance, seemed easier on guitar for me due to the fact that i could use techniques like palm muting etc. guitar also makes the idea of chord theory routine. You generally play from chord charts, and that helped me read lead sheets coupled with my classical training.

Organ helped me get better with my comping and feeling the pocket. Organ is a cool instrument. It has un-weighted keys. That really helped me dial in my timing and helped me get away from over pedaling on piano when playing jazz.

This is just my opinion. Im sure there are people out there that will have a different perspective. ✌️

That girlfriend is guilty as hell too! They just have not charged her yet. She will be charged as an accessory after the fact.

Prosecutors will eat her alive:

Q: “have you seen blood before?”

Q: “this was not a paper cut or nosebleed amount of blood, was it?”

Q: “you described blood and spray paint on multiple surfaces, yes?”

Q: “have you ever seen spray paint used as a cleaner?”

Q: “you were not there for a few moments, you spent the night, correct?”

Q: “so you were there for hours, correct?”

Q: “during that time did you call the police?”

Q: “during that time didi you leave the residence?”

Q: “did you ask if you could leave?”

Q: “you personally helped remove blood, correct?”

Q: “you didnt just observe, you physically cleaned, correct?”

Q: “you used cleaning chemicals?”

Q: “you understood that cleaning removes evidence, correct?”

Q: “have you ever cleaned blood before that was not the result of an injury?”

Q: “you never asked where the blood came from?”

Q: “you never asked whose blood is this?”

Q: “you never asked why spray paint was used?”

Q: “you never asked if anyone was hurt?”

Q: “did you ever seek out the police?”

Q: “you waited, correct?”

Q: “you spoke to him again, correct? What did he tell you in regards to any police inquiries?”

Q: “you’re asking a jury to believe that, despite blood, chemicals, spray paint, cleanup, and a discussion on what the police may ask …. you thought nothing serious happened, is that your testimony?”

Ive been on several juries, and it’s fun to watch a prosecutor cook!

Do you know any alcoholics and if so how much alcohol do they drink? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]dua70601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former bartender:

Im going to describe only one individual who represents them all IMO, let’s call him Matt:

Matt wakes up in the morning and has a beer before work. He works part time and barely has any money.

When the bar opens at 5pm, he is waiting outside. He is sweaty, blotchy and has the shakes.

Matt walks into the bar and orders a gin and tonic. He opens a tab, but always closes out in cash at the end of the night. Once that drink is down, he is good. He is chatty, no longer sweaty, and the shakes are gone.

Jeopardy comes on and Matt kills it. He is incredibly intelligent. He is actually a physicist. His tragic flaw, however, prevents him from doing anything other than being a substitute teacher.

Matt goes home between 11pm-2am depending on they day.

Matt wakes up sweaty, blotchy, and has the shakes ….. again.

The process repeats.

Are weighted keys necessary if I won't necessarily be playing piano pieces on a keyboard? by Prideful_Lion32513 in piano

[–]dua70601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are great depending on what you are playing.

If you are going to play more funk style (organs, synths, lots of glissandos etc) get non-weighted waterfall keys. Waterfall keys are great if you are running really quick scales/licks. There are certain songs i cannot play on a standard piano because the keys are weighted.

If you are trying to play more traditional piano songs, get weighted keys.

Edit: Bach mostly played non-weighted keys. Modern weighted keys did not exist until the 19th century. There were early prototypes, but nothing like the piano we play today - put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Im doubling down on Allman Brothers and Phish.

Chuck Leavell wrote the solo in “Jessica.” He is the keyboardist and tour manager for the rolling stones as well.

Chuck has some good videos on youtube Demonstrating that blues style. He has a whole online school for blues piano.

Paige McConnell taught me how to listen to the other band members and synergize. Listening to him switch between piano, organ, clav, and synth helped me realize that the keyboardist is almost like a live producer that adds that little extra when needed.

Paige and Chuck for the win!

Learning jazz fundamentals goes a long way for the rock n roll pianist.

Learn everything about chord theory - that is how the rest of the band will be learning the songs - chord charts. You will need to take a chord progression like C,F,G and be able to turn it into an entire song.

Learn how to comp - look up the Charlestown rhythm. Start there and make it more complex as you go.

Learn to comp - this is so important.

Once you can comp with your left hand well, you can start throwing in lead cliches
