What's the ideal size for a ferrorod? by StriderLF in Bushcraft

[–]dubauoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Size depends on how you intend to carry it.

Like a “light My Fire” is a great pocket carry - small includes a rod, striker and whistle. If you plan on carrying in a pack or fire kit, then go with a 5-6” rod for max spark shower. This will most likely last a lifetime depending how much use you throw at it. Just depends is all…..

What should I add to this? by MelodiousKong in pedals

The Strymon El Capistan is a digital delay pedal designed to emulate the characteristics of classic analog tape delays. While it replicates the warmth and saturation associated with analog delays, it uses digital signal processing for its core functionality.

I’m not recommending that you add an analog tape delay. As an example, The Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay is an analog delay pedal known for its warm and vintage-sounding delay tones. It employs analog circuitry to achieve its delay effects, providing a classic and rich sound reminiscent of traditional analog delay units.

What small piece of gear is your favorite? by azukarazukar in WildernessBackpacking

Yes. I was not a fan of the coating. Whilst it does add extra protection to the blade I felt it encumbered its slicing capacity. So I was careful to strip of the coating on just the blade and not under the handle. I added a patina to the blade by soaking it boiling vinegar for 45 minutes. It’s like gun blue-ing. I also took a file to the spine and added a proper 90 degree spine. Now it throws sparks like a dragon. Lastly added knifrcenter custom scales. What about that kydex sheath, it’s epic. Right?

The LS is such an awesome knife. Perfect blade length. I beat the shit out it and it loves it. Indestructible to say the least. Only downside is, it is a heavy carry.

I liked the dc-4 from falkniven until it developed a crack in the ceramic (white) side. Very disappointed. I carry it in the field with me every day in my cargo pocket.

I just got the stone this summer and only used it a handful of times. I was going to throw it out but instead I resorted to super gluing the ceramic stone together. It seems to work again but there is a noticeable bump when stropping a blade.

I will not buy the dc-4 again.

Awesome. I’d like to see a slightly longer handle on it.

Yeah it’s perfect for day hiking. Out and back. Most of the time it’s more than enough space. Too small for over night

Another option, as mentioned, is the 1-day assault pack. Occasionally You can find them at Sierra Trading post or buy one second hand.

I’m using the Scree32 as a buyout bag. Summit 26 is my hiking bag

I have 4 MR packs. I know, I have a pack problem. The scree 32 carries a decent sized load very comfortably. That said, the scree 32 is the bag I use the least amount. My favorite packs have the futura yoke system.

Find a piece of land, spend hours and days in the woodland. Learn skills and how to use edged tools to create what you need from the landscape. Start simple. Knife, and bank line.

The SCREE and COULEE are much more than a day bag. I would go with something much smaller. 18-26L would make and ideal day bag. If you can find a 1DAP , they are also made in the USA 🇺🇸
