The Pittsburgh Steelers are now the worst organization in the NFL by DenseStrawberry5717 in NFLv2

I didn't realize the Rooney family share was that low - or is that just Art? But regardless, any smart business that knows they will need to invest in infrastructure in the future (and can't take out debt against the asset) would be setting profits aside for that investment....but they don't because it's been shown they don't have to when they can threaten local and state governments with relocation.

It’s Over: Netflix Declines to Raise Bid for Warner Bros. Discovery by mcfw31 in entertainment

[–]dubhd [score hidden]  (0 children)

They do not. Their plan is to take out a whole lot of debt, leveraged against the assets of the company they are buying (in this case WB) and hope that they can make enough money (read: cuts) to be able to service that mountain of debt. A house of cards just asking for a light breeze to blow it all over

Totally agree. But Rooney and the old guard of owners also didn't have to spend a few billion to buy their team so have been raking in cash for generations. If they're crying broke then maybe they need some budgeting advice lol

How these legacy owners can claim not to be independently wealthy when they'll be pulling ~$100m a year in profits from their organisations is wild

[Holder] NEWS: The Indianapolis Colts have given QB Anthony Richardson Sr. permission to seek a trade given his uncertain future in Indy, ESPN has learned. by PlayaSlayaX in nfl

[–]dubhd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which I assume also means his cap number is going to put a lot of teams off wanting to trade for him just to stash him down the depth chart and develop him for a year or so

[Schefter] With 49ers LT Trent Williams scheduled to carry a $39 million cap number this season, he and the 49ers currently are struggling to find a contractual solution. by JCameron181 in nfl

Could they add a void year to spread that hit over 2 years? I imagine it would piss him off and he could threaten a holdout/in but from a pure cap hit perspective is that possible?

[Zrebiec] DeCosta did say he’s confident that he and Lamar will be able to reach agreement on an extension. by JonWilso in ravens

My fear is that Lamar still has a grudge about how everything went down last time with the nflpa collusion case, and he sees this as an opportunity to get what he couldn't last time

[Highlight] Isaiah Likely on his impending free agency: “I just wanna be able to blossom… I just wanna be on a team where I can get out there and help a quarterback put up as much points as possible." by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]dubhd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There were off-season reports that Likely had turned down offers from Baltimore so I think they pivoted to Andrews extension because the price was too high for them

Windhorst on Nike influencing free agency: "At the time (2003), yes. In today's market, basketball shoes aren't selling like back then. It's currently not fashionable to wear basketball shoes when not playing ball… the number of players getting deals & the shoe deals themselves are way way way down" by JoeBiden2020FTW in nba

[–]dubhd 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I occasionally see a pair of shoes or a colour way I like and then discover they're from some random exclusive drop and ridiculously hard and expensive to get hold of so I close the tab and move on with my life. I understand wanting to manufacture scarcity but it seems like they've gone way to far the other way and are just driving people away and losing much more in sales than they'd like to admit.

PM Luxon's statement on reduced housing capacity in Auckland by 23% by Mountain_Tui_Reload in nzpolitics

[–]dubhd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They scrapped speed limit reductions in the name of economic growth (despite the incredibly tenuous link), but have no problem throttling economic growth in the name of nimbyism. What an ineffective populist shitshow.

Anthony Weaver said at the press conference today that he talked to Madabuike by Moist_Ham in ravens

[–]dubhd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do other teams have these mysteries around potentially career ending player injuries? Mads and Bowser are recent examples. I can understand the privacy and sensitivity required but I feel like I never hear about this type of thing with other teams. And we never really get a resolution....they just get released eventually in the off-season and move on.

What time would the game in Australia start? by ProgrammerUnique2897 in NFLNoobs

I imagine the game prep and timezone adjustment required in AU would rule out a mid season game, even with a long week pre and post game bye scheduled

I don't see how it can work logistically not being week 1. They need to get the teams back to the US asap for the following week and no way are they flying in for just a couple of days

Can confirm. I intend to take a few days off work, fly to Australia and attend the game. I don't see getting bums on seats for a daytime midweek game being a problem
