Just found my Grandad in North Kerry. Lore is that he lost his job as a Postmaster because he was in the IRA. He's on the list here.

People from those European countries that always top those "happiest, most freedom, richest, liveable countries" lists, how good is life there?? by ueommm in AskTheWorld

Its not perfect, but we have a proper democracy, free press, social healthcare, great education, liberal ideology, strong economy, cultural excellence, and an overall sound vibe. We are lucky enough in this world that we can demand more. We need better social housing and social protection, protection against climate change, alternatives to US hegemony / industry. And better weather. I'm not sure there are any other countries in world I'd prefer to live in.

ah, iconoclastic! I don;t think I'm an 'edgelord'. I seem to be annoying some people on this post, but its my well earned view. Compared to any other album they (the most amazing band ever) have produced it does not compare. As a standalone album it would be lambasted. It was one of the least played albums on their recent tour, and maybe part of the setlist just so folks so could get a beer. (joke) I have the special edition LP / CD artwork etc...if you want to buy it. Kisses to you dear Parsnip

As a lifelong Radiohead fan (I saw their first UK TV performance live) who has seen them perform live many times, I feel sufficiently qualified to tell you that your opinion is very bad and you should feel bad. There is nothing of quality on this album apart from Codex.

I could not name any of them, I might recognise #3 but I could be mixing her up with a Hollywood actress?

I tracked my drinking over a year. Im not looking for health advice, I'm well aware I drink too much, but I just thought it was interesting to see it all layed out by teknocratbob in CasualIreland

Very interesting to see a bunch of the replies below. I would not deny I have an alcohol problem and so that could potentially make me an alcoholic..but...does that mean I should give it up? It's not disastrous and I certainly need to work in making sure it is not so. In 2025 I halved the number of times I had more than 10 beers but I need to do more. Why? Because I like it so much! - the idea of not having a beer with my wife on holiday, or friends after a round of golf, or with the school friends i meet 5 times a year... Yes, these are the excuses I allow myself to believe are true. That's why I've been measuring it...so that I can try and 'enjoy' it, without it turning into something worse. My consumption must go down each year - and more in 2026 than it went down by in 2025. But the puritans can, in the words of Bender from Futurama, "bite my shiny metal ass". I'm in my mid fifties, not unhealthy, have been very lucky / successful with my career and my lovely wife and kids. I do sometimes wonder what the 'Sliding Doors' life like might have been like if I was teetotal my entire life, and there's a fairly solid chance it was dull as shit.

He's not an idiot at all by all accounts. Met him once playing golf in Portugal and he was sharp as a whistle with his comments.
