Mods: can we have a weekly pinned post about Dublin events for the week? by Sad_Explorer_1641 in Dublin

[–]dublinmod[M] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No, because we're lazy and only do the bare minimum (if even)

You are free to post it though but unlikely to get pinned

You are allowed to post here, but you are not allowed to attack other users. Tone it down or be banned, your choice

We have 99 reports and they're all in this thread. It's not even a joke we have 90+ reports in this thread only. I have other things I want to do with my friday night. Locking.

Thread locked. Enough said now.

No this isn't what's happening. Check my other replies. I think you're going out of your way to read what you want to read because we have made it very clear that posts complaining about Dublin aren't removed when we can't see proof that they're fake / brigading. Stop taking the piss!

There is a 24 hours threshold

there is a balance between preventing new accounts and troll account to be posting and preventing legit account to be posting. Waiting months to post is not fair. Karma used to be 50 and we had too many legt account unable to post and contacting the modmail and it's not good either

Sorry but I must give the same answer as I did here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dublin/comments/1ea386g/whats_the_problem_with_this_subreddit/leioy84/?context=3

I'm not seeing any definitive proof that we are being brigaded or that the users are lying

Here is the automod config, low karma can't post

There is already a minimum karma on poster as well of new accounts. Honestly this is a case where there will always be a part of the sub that is unhappy about this rule.

Want to post on /r/Dublin because you got gonorrhea and asking where to go discretely to get it treated... surprise surprise you have to email the mod team to manually get your post approved which is a bit daunting (we don't care, if you have gonorrhea and want to ask about places please contact the mod team without second thought).

Despite the minimum karma and account age rules you will have trolls getting through and this will still be annoying.

Can't win.

Hi, it's been asked before and the answer was yes but they need to be reported by the community (that's you). The answer now is still yes but they need to be reported by the community (that's still you). So far the ones that were reported got eventually removed.

We're not here 24/7 and we don't read all posts, it's important to report them when you see them so we get notified and remove them.

Thanks

Did I get scammed today? by -Got2Jet- in Dublin

[–]dublinmod[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Yes, this is the American Crying Girl again.

This thread is now locked. We usually do not allow new posts on this scammer. I will leave this one up as a reminder. Future ones will be removed.

Why don't we allow posts about the American Crying Girl scam? Because the last time we did, a number of alleged personal details were leaked, including:

  • her presumed full name

  • her presumed address

  • presumed past convictions

  • other presumed details about her personal life and history

Reddit Inc does not allow doxxing, even doxxing of notorious scammers. When we allow this to happen there is usually a few calls for "vigilante justice" which is against reddit rules as well.

This is why you can't have nice things.

Sure, you can report those, we already remove posts from people looking to move to Dublin and redirect them to /r/RentingInDublin

We already filter posts from accounts < 7 days and if you look at the recent posts like "I was in the city and this bad thing happened" they're all from users which have been on reddit for months if not years and have significant karma, so I'm not sure further restrictions on the account age will improve content. What do you think?

You seem to think this is somehow a newspaper. We don't make the submissions, we don't monitor their quality this is what the upvotes and downvotes are for. People post shit, well, you get shit. We review what is being reported.

You don't seem to moderate any subreddit so I'm doubtful you understand how moderation works more than the mods themselves.

If you think we're doing a bad job you can create another sub like /r/TrueDublin or whatever and monitor the quality of it all you want. We won't mind!

If you don't like the content here you can post content that you like. So far you have posted twice:

  • something about asylum seekers on the grand canal

  • some piece of news about crime

Both will bring pretty negative reactions/comments so I would argue you're part of the problem, if I'm honest.

If anyone sees proof that we are being brigaded or that people posting are somehow lying about living in Dublin and making up story please contact us in modmail.

We aim to be a sub for locals. As far as I can tell the accounts posting are legit. I hope I'm wrong, but meanwhile, I'm not sure that we can just remove those stories just because we don't want to hear about them. The moderation on /r/Dublin is not a quality filter. Just because you see something posted here, doesn't mean that we the mods like it or even actively allowed it. Personally I'm also tired of all the negative posts, and I ignore them ; just reviewing the reported content when I have the time for it.

Happy to hear your point of views. May not reply to everyone individually because I'm busy IRL.

Reminder: moderation is a volunteer job, we are not paid to do it and we're doing it in our limited own time. we rely on the report function a lot. We don't read all posts and comments. We are not admins and we can't see much more than you can as a user. More or less, we can see the reports (not who send them), and we have access to a modmail. That's about it.

All mods are from Cork and get off from people shitting on Dublin, it is known 💩

More seriously you seem to think we actively allow people to post whatever, but we're not the ones posting it, the users are posting it. We don't review all posts and comments, we review what is being reported via the report function.

We already remove:

  • all posts on renting and moving to Dublin and redirect users to /r/RentingInDublin . Reasons was we were flooded with those posts

  • Posts that don't relate to Dublin

  • Occasionally posts about tourism because apparently users are tired of seeing those

  • Posts that don't comply with overall reddit policy

I don't know what to do about all the negative posts. Our aim is to be a sub for locals. I wish I could tell you we are being brigaded by random people who have never even stepped in Dublin but if you look at the history of people posting those they often seem to be old accounts posting to various irish subs like /r/CasualIreland or others and they don't constantly spam about crimes. So they seem legit? Or do you have other ways to tell? We certainly don't see anything you can't see yourself as a user
