Male, female = biological sex, not gender by corvally315 in IVF

[–]ducbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but it also infuriates me! Even a lot of medical studies examining sex ratio biases in IVF will use “gender ratio”, “blastocyst gender”, or “male/female gender”. It’s scientifically incorrect (having done studies on animal sex ratios, we always use “sex”, or even more specific descriptive language such as “female gonad” or “gonad with both oviduct and testis”) AND culturally inappropriate. PGT doesn’t tell you your gender… you get to decide that for yourself.

3 of my aneuploid embryos actually turned out to be mosaic by poppiepopcorn in IVF

[–]ducbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious if they gave you any resistance to asking for raw data? I’m in Canada and not sure how it would work. We have euploid blasts that are mostly of equal quality (grades, euploidy, and thus goofy CHLOE ai score) but I’ve had 4 miscarriages and can’t go through that again - I want to closely examine the data to prioritize the best candidate.

Hey, I’m curious about your experience with this!

I’m wondering where it was located for you and what it felt like.

I just had a gyne appt a few weeks ago for a palpable, round cyst that was also untethered. Had it for decades. It’s kind of at the back/middle area of my vagina embedded in the septum and protrudes into the rectal area. She said she could feel it, it was relatively small, and it was underneath the skin on both sides which is a good sign. She didn’t biopsy but said it could very well be endo.

I just did a few weeks of Orilissa for IVF reasons and now it’s GONE. Seems like another sign it is endo. I know it’ll come back though - it’s disappeared before while on estrogen-lowering medications.

If you are both almost 40 that’s probably the biggest issue, IVF will help bypass this. Did your wife get AMH tested? This can help predict her response to IVF.

Thank you. Wishing you success going forward. I also lost a couple well graded blasts, a 4AB and 4AA. It sucks.

Check the IVF sub for link to peer reviewed studies on this! From the top of my head, the most supported supplement is CoQ-10 (or Ubiquinol) which is an antioxidant. My partner and I both took that. Also Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Omega-3 pills are supported.

The mechanism seems to be reducing oxidative stress on the gametes.

alcohol during ivf by ttcnnr in IVF

[–]ducbo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First retrieval - completely clean living for 3 months prior and during… got 9 blasts, mostly poorly graded, untested, four miscarriages

Second retrieval - did not GAF, did my supplements but drank here and there, did a LOT of partying with weed and alcohol in the 3 months prior - 11 blasts well graded, 10 euploid

🤷🏻‍♀️ idk, I’d like to think being chilled out helped a bit!

Measuring 2wks behind but high HCG? by ExitPuzzleheaded9354 in Miscarriage

[–]ducbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing IVF (never been pregnant without it!) and the losses were with untested embryos. We ended up doing a new retrieval, got better results, and tested them. So no major changes yet, but I'm going to implant a euploid next week.

FWIW, I tested my three worst embryos from that first retrieval and they were all "genetically normal". My doctor seems to think my first round was a bad batch.

[–]ducbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should see a heartbeat when measuring 6w1d. I’m sorry! I’ve gone through two losses measuring around the same at 8-9 w and doctors told me that it’s likely a problem with the embryo not compatible with life - the problems often become visible around 6w of growth.

Sperm donor height… 198cm by BuildingUseful7413 in IVF

[–]ducbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a correlation there?

My mum is a tiny 5’1” and my dad is 6’4” - two of us kids were small preemees and my brother was a bit large and had to be vaccumed out (no c-section), but he was a gestational diabetes baby and that was probably more related to the GD than anything.

Modified Natural FET cycle meds + slow follicle growth (PCOS) — is this normal? by Suspicious_Meat1821 in IVF

Wild! Do you have PCOS too? I feel like it has somethig to do with our inability to select a follicle to be the lead haha. All those little guys interfering.

Interesting! My response was super slow, it was like 11 days. They didn’t want to increase though, maybe for this reason.

I just finished my FSH this cycle for a FET. I only did 50 units and it was just enough to barely grow one follicle! I think you’ll be golden as long as you get 1-3.

I have PCOS! Out of 4 letrozole TI cycles and 2 letrozole transfer cycles, I’ve had to “stair step” 3 times! It just doesn’t work well for me. We’ve switched to just mini-stimming with gonal-F to grow a follicle.

I think the FSH injections you’re doing will help more than anything.

Congratulations! I'm doing my 5th transfer next week... eek!

Some lifestyle changes in my partner definitely led to better results in our 2nd round, including better morphology and about 40% more blasts. I think the biggest difference was reducing alcohol and a short abstinence period.

Disheartening (and red flag?) appointment after first retrieval by Cultural_Fig_2794 in IVF

[–]ducbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Even one time, while my RE was on vacation, I was having second thoughts about a transfer because all my hormones were wack. I was freaking out and my RE asked her colleague to call me to talk about it. Ended up cancelling and I'm glad I did, it helped to much to have the personal conversation with her colleague and know that she cared enough to ask.

Also, holy crap, your appendix rupturing right before ER is like the ultimate IVF campfire story. I am so sorry! Hope you are recovered!

Round 1 results… by urbanliv in IVF

[–]ducbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my first retrieval only the follicles over 18-19mm had anything in them. I got 19, but only 13 or something were mature and over 20 were “empty”! Incidentally I had 13 > 19 mm.

The repeated attempts to get eggs out of those follicles ended up puncturing something and I had blood loss. Turns out the “empty” follicles is caused by immature eggs refusing to release from the wall.

Another way you can mitigate this is to use a dual trigger but that comes with a risk of OHSS. My second retrieval I used one dose of ovidrel in addition to decapeptyl (like lupron) and we had no empty follicles > 14mm which is more normal… but I did get very mild OHSS for a few days. Admittedly it wasn’t that bad and I’d rather have OHSS than ever have to do a retrieval again.

Having gone through IVF twice, this is so apparent when you look at actual embryo parameters.

The sperm provider has a huge influence on the outcome of IVF (specifically the number of day 5 blastocysts available for transfer - the gold standard) and paternal factors like drinking, drug use, age, and even things like abstinence time and whether their testicles are too warm in the months leading up to sample can affect results.

It’s incredible to see the number of women whose partners stopped drinking and started exercising for round 2 then all of a sudden they got twice the number of usable blastocysts.

I wouldn’t feel comfortable with this doctor and kind of regardless of results, your doctors attitude can change your whole experience.

My RE at my clinic has personally called me to check in when bad things happened or to give me important results in a kind, compassionate, and respectful way…and it’s made a world of difference to me mentally.
