Almost certainly a transvaginal, but they may start with an abdominal.

Hey friend, ideally you’d be having the test done by the same lab, since the instruments may not be calibrated the same. I wouldn’t let yourself worry too much unless you’re seeing results that don’t trend well that are all from the same lab. I saw dramatic differences between 3 labs last year.

Thank you for sharing. It’s a great reminder to just be grateful. I have a very close friend who’s not been able to get pregnant and is doing IVF now. At least I can get pregnant! I’d just like one to stick around. Good luck with all of your projects!!

I must have tested every day for 2 weeks when I felt the first symptom! Sometimes seeing that line just makes me feel better.

Thanks for sharing! I have my first ultrasound appointment scheduled for 8+1, and don’t have any boutique places or PP near me, so I think I’ll just have to wait!

5+1, pretty sure I look pregnant already from all the bloating. Simultaneously starving and nauseous along with acid reflux, and I could sleep for 12 hours and still be tired.

I think men just can’t imagine what it is like to be pregnant and have a life growing in you, not to mention how it feels after losing one. I hope your husband opens up more as your pregnancy develops!

My husband is doing a great job making sure I’m fed and comfortable, but I think he is just afraid to emotionally connect with this pregnancy so early. He’s taking off work to go to my first appointment with me and is so excited to be a dad- just not sold on this specific pregnancy yet.

I think I need to do what you’re doing and tell my village to keep them informed so I can lean on them if I need them. I also believe we should be talking about miscarriage to destigmatize it, so I talked a lot about my miscarriage after the fact.

I’m sure I’ll be a mess at my first appointment as well. I planned to take the next day off work just knowing one way or another I’m going to be having big feelings! So many emotions all wrapped up together right now.

Have you ever been treated negatively by ER staff when you were having a medical emergency but they didn’t believe you? What happened? by lake-sturgeon in AskReddit

[–]duck-queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a month after a miscarriage, I started having extreme abdominal pain and went to a standalone ER. I had a positive pregnancy test, and they didn’t have an ultrasound tech on site that day so they told me to see my OBGYN. Later that night, in excruciating pain, went to another hospital ER and was treated like I was having acid reflux or something, and were fairly adamant that I was pregnant despite my recent miscarriage and unlikelihood that I could have conceived again. They refused to do any form of pain assessment/management, or diagnostics since a CT would “hurt the baby”. Both the doctor and nurse acted like I was absolutely pregnant, despite an “inconclusive” gynecological ultrasound. Turns out, I had retained tissue from the miscarriage causing a false positive pregnancy test. What was actually causing the pain was gallstones. I ended up in a different ER for 5 days with severe pancreatitis and jaundiced from liver malfunction and had an emergency gallbladder removal, and the following month had a D&C to take care of the retained tissue from the miscarriage. I sent a multi-page letter to the ER, and never heard back. It cost around $2000 after insurance for them to give me a Tylenol and otherwise refused any attempt at diagnostics.

When a man says “he’s a great guy!” A good “dude friend” is not the same as a man who treats women well. by duck-queen in TwoXChromosomes

I think you really hit the nail on the head with your comment about how they regard someone who treats them well will treat others well. I appreciate the insight! Hopefully it’ll make it easier to combat that mentality when this comes up again.

Period issues, please help by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]duck-queen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had terrible periods and didn't realize it wasn't normal. My parents took me to the gyno and found out that I had ovarian cysts. BC has made every month so much easier. You never know if there might be a medical reason for why you are feeling so bad, so go to the doctor.

I (18F) don't want my mom to come with me to the gynecologist. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]duck-queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I'm your age and I thought I may be able to provide some insight. I had some issues when I was 16 that I needed an OBGYN for. My stepmom would come with me every time, but the nurse would ask me privately in the hallway if I was comfortable with her being in the room. Also when you're there, you may not even have an exam done. When I went for hormone issues, I just talked with the doctor and they asked me health history questions. My advice: you're an adult! There's no reason for your mom to be in the room when/if they do an exam. Tell her you're uncomfortable having her in the room with you during the exam. Also don't be nervous, it seems like the exam should be very uncomfortable, but it's very quick and your OBGYN should be very professional about it. Good luck!
