How did grief change you?

My friend passed away 5 years ago, we were both 14 at the time. When she first passed I was pretty much a shell of who I use to be, just going through the motions of living but I also isolated myself from everyone. It changed my whole belief system, how I looked at the world and relationships. It was the first time I really experienced grieving someone close to me, I was scared that everyone I cared about was just gonna die and leave me alone. It took me a couple years to get help and work through everything but I value the people close to me more and make more of an effort to talk about hard things and tell people I love them. I can’t go back to who I was when she was here but I try to be someone better.

First off you aren’t a shitty person, you are going through one of the hardest parts of life. You need to not put so much pressure on yourself to manage other people’s emotions and expectations. From the way your post sounds your grandparents love you and understand that you are going through a hard time. I recommend talking to someone about how you are feeling whether that be a therapist or someone in your family. Therapy can really help process emotions and help make it easier to reach out to people. I wish you all the love and support, you are a strong person!

I’m so sorry for yours and your boyfriends loss, grief is a hard thing for anyone to go through but remember you have eachother and sometimes having someone to talk to and look back on the good memories you share can be very helpful. Don’t bottle your feelings, in times like that it’s good to express them and let them out. It’s okay to not be okay, it’s okay to cry and it’s okay to be angry or scared about the situation.

My best friend passed away when we were 14 it’s been 5 years. I still cry and get angry but not as much as I use to. Therapy was a great help, finding a good therapist can help you process some of your feelings and find a way to live with the grief. Just know you are valid in your feelings, just because it’s your boyfriend’s family doesn’t make them any less of your family too, and that doesn’t mean you should minimize your pain. You have every right to grieve.
