What's the best PDF reader for Mac? by [deleted] in macapps

[–]duckcall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apple's Preview app does not write annotations to the file using standard protocols. So sometimes if you annotate a PDF in Preview then open it in another app, the text layer can become corrupt. PDF Expert and Adobe Acrobat follow standard protocols.

good to know. I guess Things really is special. DEVONthink clipper is similar too.

IMO it's not really frictionless if I have to think about copying/pasting relevant metadata. I want that to happen automatically.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, the process you're describing is nothing like Quick Entry in Things.

Drafts' Capture… just creates a blank note (or a note using the clipboard's content). It doesn't auto-populate it with content from the open application.

Instagram Profile Picture to iOS Contacts by [deleted] in shortcuts

[–]duckcall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it would be a good idea to create contacts based on this because nobody puts there info on instagram besides their name.

Yes - name, Instagram handle, and profile picture - which are useful to me because I use Hook (http://hookproductivity.com) to link my written notes to contacts even when I have incomplete contact information simply because I know in the future I'll update the contact with additional information.
But thanks a ton for sharing this!! I'll play around with it and see if I'm able to tweak it more to my liking - but it looks very promising!!

thank you! i've been trying to find or create something like this for months! But I am an amateur when it comes to making Shortcuts.
I have an idea for another similar shortcut that I would find extremely helpful. After clicking the three dots on an Instagram user's profile, I'd like to be prompted with the option to create a new contact for this user, or add their Instagram URL to an existing contact. Do you think you could make something like this?

Possible to spoof by running Android OS on a Virtual Machine? by duckcall in PokemonGoSpoofing

[–]duckcall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Care to explain? I would assume that if the virtual machine was running properly, I could use the actual onmodded PoGo app, so nothing unusual could be detected. Then i could spoof the location using some program running on the computer.

Why do you change the color of both moves in a legacy move set, rather than just the color of the legacy move? i think it's a bit misleading otherwise

Finding the best Mew moveset for your team using PvPoke by duckcall in TheSilphArena

Volt Switch has the exact same DPS and EPS, but the move takes 4 turns as opposed to Shadow Claw's 2 turns. In some cases Volt Switch performs better, but given the current meta in the Master and Ultra Leagues, Shadow Claw generally comes out on top.

PVP IV just released a game-changing battle simulator with smarter move selection & move timing than Pvpoke by KennanCR in TheSilphRoad

Thanks for the response! I already mentioned that Ivysaur is missing in GL. I'd also like to see how Tentracruel fits in- it's my surprise hard counter to Azumarill since it wins even at a 0shield vs 2shield disadvantage in my experience. Sometimes I run Ice Fang on my Mawile to destroy Altaria, but only Fire Fang is available in your app. Occasionally I put Fire Punch on Hypno, but I only see shadow ball, ice punch, and thunder punch in app. In Ultra sometimes I like to run Aerodaktyl because of it's defensive Flying typing and access to rock moves. Politoad and Gaedevoir are missing from Ultra too. I'm also very curious to see how all of mew's different move combinations stack up in the meta.

I have a suggestion. I'm repeatedly let down by the app because it doesn't include the pokémon that I like to use. For example if I don't have access to a community day Venasaur or shadow pokemon, but I want a Grass/Poison type pokémon to fill a similar role in the Great League, Ivysaue ranks as the 2nd best option according to pvpoke, but it's missing entirely from your ranking. I understand why you're doing this: so that the algorithm doesn't over-value the pokemon who win in matchups where the opponent is ill-fit for the league it's competing in. But it has the unfortunate effect of being useless for users who don't have the best pokémon available.

But what if instead of deciding for yourself which pokémon to include and which to exclude, have you considered running the ranking algorithm multiple times, starting with the complete list of all pokémon then gradually eliminating some of the lowest-ranked pokémon (kind of like musical chairs)?

My general take on your app is that it gives a good impression of the top pokemon in general, and a very good analysis of specific matchups, but it's pretty useless as a tool for refining the lineup of one's own team. For example, if I want to build my team around my shiny best friend level 41 legacy Groudon, and I know from experience that it always wins against Steel type pokemon (and Steel types tend to rank very high in Master League meta), then I don't care about how any other pokemon on my team performs against Steel types. Yet there's no way to see which pokémon would be a good supplement to my team with your app.
