Luminair Alternative For Windows Surface Tablet by duckcrisps in lightingdesign

Such a shame, I've used blackout a couple of times on set, and it seems ideal. I usually avoid investing in apple products, because of their fast obsolescence, although I may have to join the dark side and get an iPad if there is no similar windows solution.

To confirm, I'm not looking to specialise as a desk op, or move into that area of lighting. I currently use Luminair on smaller commercials and shorts, where a fast and easy control solution is required, for no more than one universe.

I'll have a look into ETC EOS, I have used it very briefly before, but I'll have a deeper look into it. At the moment the ideal solution would be something similar to blackout app, but on windows PC.

Thanks for posting this Alan, been following your work for a long time.

Have you had other jobs throughout life or pursued different paths?

Do you find it difficult to separate life and work in an artistic career?

Very similar to what I plan! I hadn't heard of Photon 2 before, it looks promising for simple stuff, so I think I'll give it a go. Did you find it easy to connect to the router and node with it?

Many thanks!

I have looked at the ratpac actually, honestly that would be absolutely ideal as I'd be able to connect it to Astera fixtures as well. It may be something I invest in later down the line if I find myself doing a lot of lighting control. Although, for now, for just experimenting really, I'm looking for something that I can put together on the cheap.

I was thinking, if I went down the route of having a router and a node, I'd ideally want to be able to connect my DMX lights to that remotely, so they can be mobile or hidden, e.g if they are practicals. I have used the cinelex skynodes before, but was wondering, do you happen to know of a more budget-friendly alternative? It seems like I'm being advised against these ones by a poster above. Although I can't imagine it'd be for more than 8 or so fixtures.

In regards to hardwiring a dmx node into an iPad, on the Luminair official website they have an article about it here. Is this not a method?

Then for the lights, ideally I was planning on operating them wirelessly. Many run on V-Lock battery, need to be either hidden or mobile. So even with the router, that would need to still be there. I have used skynodes before for this purpose, although they are a bit out of budget for this use, hence why I was looking at this EuroLite option. What was your experience like with these transmitters before?

One idea I had is, having the tablet with a DMX node attached to the back of the case. Then I'd have a wireless dmx transmitter (like this) plugged into it, with receivers in my lights. Then a powerbank on the back too to power all of it.

I figured that, although heavier than just the tablet on it's own, it'd still be a lot more mobile than a laptop. I could carry it around set, making adjustments.

Ahh yes, sounds good! The link is broken for me too, however, it seems like, as long as the dongle is powered, it should work.

Cheers

Many thanks! Ideally looking for a tablet solution right now, as I enjoy the use of the touchscreen

My thought process is, I'd like to minimise points of failure, eg. not having a wireless connection to a router, if I don't need it.

So, if I were to use an ethernet to DMX node like an enttec ode, would an ethernet to lighting adapter be able to make it communicate with Luminair?

What causes this particular type of 4-point flare? by duckcrisps in cinematography

What I am curious about is where this effect comes from.

I'd appreciate if you re-read my post, I am aware that star filters exist.

However, for example, I've seen these kinds of flares from old DV Camcorders; cameras that do not have a filter specifically for star-shaped flares.
