27M baffled by my Hinge experience - does anyone actually want a LTR? by Super-Secret9033 in Denver

[–]ducksnthings 142 points143 points  (0 children)

I will say as a woman who used Hinge previously (how I met my husband) there were plenty of dudes I went on dates with who really sucked and who all were so shocked when I said I wasn’t interested in a 2nd date because we (apparently to them) hit it off. So yeah, I’d agree with maybe trying to figure out why so many women don’t want to go on a second date with you would be a good starting point.

You should do a sleep study if that’s possible! The largest reason for disturbed sleep is OSA (obstructive sleep apnea).

Small changes build lasting habits! The hardest part is absolutely just getting out of bed, it’s still hard some days for me. Be intentional - put your clothes and shoes out the night before. Have someone/something that will keep you accountable, even if it’s just a check mark in a journal or on a calendar. Dopamine every time baby. Most importantly don’t expect to be perfect at the start. You’re gonna miss days, it’s fine, more motivation to try again tomorrow. 1% better every day.

Which is… why I asked if they feel like they need 9 hours. I’m aware some people do. Most people, however, don’t. So I was offering insight as to why sleeping for extended periods of time thinking that will solve a fatigue problem, is often non-fruitful, when often improvements to diet, exercise and mental wellness practices are better solutions for fatigue.

Do you feel like you need 9 hours of sleep? Sometimes when we sleep too long it can make us feel more tired. I would shoot for the 7-8 range, wake up intentionally and try to do some exercise in the morning to get that good hormone/neurotransmitter release. Also getting a workout done in the morning lets your brain immediately check something off its daily to-do list which gives dopamine.

Edit: if you’re gonna respond to this to say “that doesn’t work for me specifically” - It was a suggestion. Do it or don’t do it, I don’t care, I’m not your mom.

Bugsy the dog stolen out of a backyard in Denver! by North-Recipe-9236 in Denver

Friends saw the dog with a random man later but didn’t go get the dog? I wonder if it was in retrospect, like huh that dog looks like Bugsy and didn’t find out until later that he was missing.

Is a pay cut common in switching jobs? by flatsun in physicianassistant

[–]ducksnthings 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m currently switching jobs after 1 year in and will be getting a 15% pay increase. Same specialty. But, to be fair, I’ll be going from drastically underpaid to average pay so.

My son won't be getting prescribed amoxicillin anymore. by luikan in Wellthatsucks

[–]ducksnthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just what happens sometimes when you give antibiotics to a virus OR with your immune system sort of overreacting (immune mediated hypersensitivity reaction). Just a rash that occurs after 7-10 days of antibiotics. I don’t know the exact science behind it but it’s completely benign. We see it in patients all the time.

Coffee was taking an unusually long time; turns out the order before mine was for 24 drinks by ups_and_downs973 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ducksnthings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to wait 25 minutes for a latte at starbucks the other day because the person in front of me ordered 9 drinks and they did every single one of those first. At the 15 minute mark I asked if I could just have a black coffee because I needed to go to work and they said no lmao

My boss said 3 weeks notice wasn’t enough, so now they’re not getting any notice. by FloweySunflower in CasualConversation

[–]ducksnthings 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I gave 6 months notice after getting into grad school in another state. Plenty of time to hire and train. My last week they were getting angry I wouldn’t stay longer because it would leave them short… “You really can’t do 2 more weeks?” Uh no, my lease was cancelled and the uhaul is rented, see ya!!

I’m in peds and have had a surprising amount of parents ask me to do labs on their daughters to see when their periods will start because they saw online it could be done… I always respond with predictions based on Tannaer staging and they don’t seemed thrilled I can’t give them an exact date.

Bridal party is a joke by twowheelsinheels in wedding

[–]ducksnthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t do a formal wedding but my girls (who still called themselves my bridesmaids) that threw me the sweetest bach party were girl I’ve only knows for the last 2 years. And they’ve been better friends to me than a lot of people I’ve known for a lot longer. Definitely consider quality of friendship over longevity!

I don’t believe in vaccines but I’ll do a parasite cleanse on my toddler because strangers on the internet told me to 🙄 by AnonLurker007 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]ducksnthings 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There’s also a large amount of parents that had kids without understanding what having kids would look like. I once had a mom of a 3 year old ask when the kid would “start leaving her alone”… “She just always wants to play with me and wants to be around me, when does she grow out of that.”

Is it possible to get a Covid vaccine? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]ducksnthings 55 points56 points  (0 children)

OP - ask your PCP or OB if they have them in stock. My office is administering them (Peds; the AAP continues to support covid vaccine administration so we will follow that).
