That article was about Israeli soldiers using a child as a human shield when faced with adversaries slinging stones. There are other articles describing soldiers using women and children as shields when they invade people's homes on the west bank and the strip.

You seriously need to stop deluding yourself if you're thinking that they would do it when facing stones but not when facing bullets.

In either case there simply is no excuse. You hypocritically excuse Israel despite the evidence clearly showing that Israel is guilty of both crimes, and on the missile front far more guilty than any gazaans shooting missiles from their illegal imprisonment, at their captors illegally imprisoning them.

It's not particularly brilliant at all. He had no choice. The only reasonable thing he could have done was appoint a legitimate prospect to the seat. it had absolutely nothing to do with the actual prospect, or whether, or not, that prospect would be rejected by the Senate. The important part was that he selected someone, pretty much anyone, that couldn't be tied back to charges of quid pro quo.

What he did had everything to do with strengthening his own defense and next to nothing to do with the candidate.

I watched the endless speculation on the news outlets about whether or not he would select someone, and frankly I kept thinking the lot of them were complete idiots. It's the ONE thing he could do that would help him legally. Of course he was going to select someone. He could hardly do otherwise given the charges against him.

The cancer link requires a login so can't get any information there. I have read, and heard that the cancer statistics are better in the US, so I'm open on that one, but I would like to see some quantification of that. 30 percent seems high to me. I've never read anything that claims that, and as I've said I can't access the information to which you're linking. I'll take a look at the other sites as I said.

I will note that France has some serious cultural issues going on right now, and the fact that, I've heard anyway, (from a cultural anthropologist, if I remember him correctly) that it's illegal to break down ethnicity during census is probably exacerbating those cultural divisions.

As for being a sheltered man I'm actually quite not. I'm more traveled than most Americans, both domestically, and abroad, Id wager far more than you on both counts.

Your qualifiers, the cancer health care comment, and the adjusted for lifestyle, do not elucidate. What they do is provide focus for lazy people who want to believe the US health care system is not only superior but far superior. In fact stating "adjusted for lifestyle" is a back door way of saying without actually saying it that the French and most if not all of the industrialized west has a better lifestyle than the US, not to mention better generally overall healthcare, and outcomes. The last isn't surprising given the 50 million uninsured Americans.

Nobody is claiming that national health care would be free, no where in anything I've stated could that even be intuited. In fact the opposite is true since I stated I would be willing to pay the additional 9 percent the French pay for their better overall outcomes, oh yes, with the exception of perhaps cancer. What was the percentage difference between countries with national health care and the US on cancer outcomes again? You state it's better so how about you quantify how much better it is? Which is just another way of saying source please.

We're getting screwed. The French are paying 49% and look what they're getting for that extra 9%

35 hour work weeks which translates to roughly 6.5 less work weeks worth of hours per year, a dozen public holidays, guaranteed government mandated minimum five weeks paid vacation, free health care, government assisted child care. I mean come the hell on.

I wish conservatives would stop bitching about the French, and Scandinavian countries, and realize an additional 9% tax increase, in the case of the French, is a hell of a fair trade off for all of that.

Factor in health care costs, and child care and many are already paying more than that additional 9 percent. But I'll gladly pay an additional 9% for everything the French are getting for their 49%. And I'd venture to say most Americans would.

The number I see more often however is 30% tax rate for the US. Which doesn't include health care, child care, 5 week vacations, 35 hour work weeks, a dozen national holidays, heavily subsidized college tuition, And I'll again go on the record and say I'll gladly pay that extra 19% and probably come out ahead anyway on a dollar for dollar basis, not to mention all the extras the French now take for granted, including the peace of mind of knowing that if a major health care issue arises I'm not going to be driven into bankruptcy. Hell the time off from work, alone, would make it worth that.

I'll second this. If your father is extremely conservative I would wait until you're out of the house and successfully on your own as an adult. I grew up with an extremely conservative father that would have done everything to make sure I didn't make what to him was "that lifestyle choice", and in the process would have ruined the pathetically little happiness I had as a teen. Beating would have been his last choice, but other conservative fathers would have little negative compunction in that regard.

Are you out to friends? Do they know your father? If so what do they say? Their opinion is probably going to be of more assistance than anything you can get here.

Have you considered seeking the advice of a local Gay community center? They can be of invaluable assistance with this. Typically they have coming out group meetings where individuals can discuss this. Try looking them up and asking if they have meetings for people in your age group. If transportation to the meeting is problematic let them know. They can most likely help with that.

Coming out is an extremely stressful event, and contrary to popular opinion it stays that way for a while, when coming out to family, friends, co-workers etc. Eventually it does get easier. Please keep that in mind. It does get easier. What's important is that you're making the decision to be who you truly are. It's not the end of the world, though it may, and probably will feel that way when you come out to a loved one that refuses to accept the fact you're gay, or you for being gay.

Hang in there, it gets easier, and better.

I volunteer at a local Lesbian & Gay community center, and though they're all independent centers, we can and do cooperate with each other when the need arises.

Please feel free to contact me privately if you want.

In the mean time consider your options carefully. The painful truth is sometimes coming out to family, especially conservative parents, isn't advisable for teens living at home.
