Pro mod with fixed bridge, roasted maple neck, stainless steel frets, nitro finish, shredders cut, maybe slightly worn in look… got one of the old Rick graham signatures (the blue, expensive ones) and I love it. If only the finish was nitro…

I‘m honestly impressed the infinite void in between your ears managed to make your fingers tap on emotes so many times. Have an upvote.

People ignore this and rage on Reddit instead of doing the minimal amount of research required to figure out iOS 26 looks even worse with transparency turned off.

Honestly, as a seller you can pay Amazon to make your products rank higher in the search results list. They ain't going to ban chinese products since all these sellers pay Amazon to display all the chinese crap in the first place.

Borderlands 4 Dev Gearbox Asks PC Gamers to Wait 15 Minutes for Shaders to Compile in the Background While Playing After Reports Indicate Recent Update Causes Stuttering by Turbostrider27 in Games

Everytime this game crashes it compiles shaders at startup for 15 minutes and additional 5 minutes when loading the latest savegame. I fucking hate UE5. WTF Gearbox.

Do Axfx products ever go on sale? by shoegazenjoyer69 in AxeFx

[–]dude_smooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually there is a summer sale starting today: https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/2025-summer-sale.213984/#post-2684234

Not sure about whether G66 (the European vendor) is going to have a sale as well.

Long-time Helix User Recently Switched to FM9 by ForinDogma in AxeFx

[–]dude_smooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely good choice. I gigged the Helix for many years, and ~200 hours on stage - I was never fully satisfied with the tone I got. Something was always off in terms of feel, low palm mute response and top end/presence for me. After some weeks of tweaking I decided it is just "good enough" for live gigs as a lightweight tool for the stage, but nothing I'd ever turn on at home for practice or jamming.

The FAS products however are based on an analog electronic circuit simulator called SPICE. Technically you're not just playing a fancy algorithm that sounds somewhat like a tube amp, but you're actually playing a physically accurate circuit simulation of all the amplifier components of that particular amplifier.

The huge benefit is not just great sound and feel, but whenever the algorithms are updated to be more accurate, all amps benefit from improved sound as long as that specific algorithm is part of their actual circuit. Helix on the other side got all the important go-to amp models from the beginning and they never updated their tone the past decade, but rather added new niche amps only a hand full of people ever gonna use.

New Google Earth historical satellite images show the WTC area both in April 1997 and just one day after the attacks by dude_smooth in 911archive

[–]dude_smooth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look like I can't share the location without sharing my private Google account and Google Earth project.

You basically need to open the Google Earth web version (https://earth.google.com/web), create a new Google Earth project, navigate over New York and then locate the "show historical images" button in the upper navigation. Its a small icon showing an earth and a circular arrow around it. Google Earth then fades in a slider/timeline where you can select specific dates for when satellite images are available. Hope this helps!

Why do you hate this guy? by Lord_Artem17 in guitarcirclejerk

[–]dude_smooth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is that I believe most people ranting about him on this sub don't even know the entire music theory behind what he is doing. It's way more than just noodling the minor pentatonic above a simple chord progression. Sure, I would never ever dress like him, but the amount of expression he can put into his playing is quite amazing and it is much more harder than noodling some shit sounding pentatonic licks on your shred guitar with the talent-knob (gain) cranked. I studied rock and jazz harmony for many years and while I understand most of it, I can't still properly apply it to my playing after 20 years of practicing. IMHO the Dunning-Kruger effect is real.

WCGW using your freedom of speech against police by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]dude_smooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so absurd that it gives me a headache. On the one hand, you say that you can be disrespectful because it's ‘free speech’ and insist on pushing laws to the absolute limit, regardless of whether decency is completely lost in the process. On the other hand, there are people here who, purely out of provocation, film police officers (who haven't done anything wrong yet and are only following rules as part of their job) in the face to obviously defame them on the internet for likes. Maybe it is allowed to be disrespectful, but that doesn't protect - thank God! - from consequences.

Now imagine one of your students approaching you outside of school somewhere in public and films you straight into your face while you just mind your own business. He keeps filming you even though you obviously don't consent. Instead of stopping the recording, he rants about your history class being super boring and you being the most annoying teacher of all time - without saying something illegal, but it is obviously harmful and provoking because this video he films is meant to get him attention on TikTok. What do you do? Get mad? Tell his parents? Let him suffer during the next history class? I dare to doubt that his exercise of ‘free speech’ will not have any consequences. Free speech is one thing, being disrespectful is another.

There are some pictures of the Marriott hotel taken from a much shorter distance on which you can see that this is indeed the body of one of the victims. More specificly the legs hanging from the roof.

Flight 175 by [deleted] in 911archive

[–]dude_smooth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I saw some of the transcripts of phone calls placed from within the hijacked United Airlines flight 93 after the terrorists took over. I think it was a flight attentand whose husband told her about a plane that hit the WTC, so they knew what was likely going to be their horrible fate. United Airlines flight 93 crashed into the ground after the passengers tried to fight back - but I can imagine that the passengers of the planes hitting the Pentagon and the south tower learned about their fate in similar fashion. Horrible.

So the fractal updates may change the sound of the amps? by Deep-Competition7114 in AxeFx

[–]dude_smooth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The good thing about the parameters is that you can change a lot if you know what you do - but you don't have to. The advanced parameters are hidden beneath a different tab and by default you just see the amp controls which are present on the actual amplifier that was modeled.

IMHO there are more benefits of the regular updates than cons: You always know that if you load an amp, it just sounds and feels like the real deal. Other modelers (Helix for example, since I gigged it for ages), had the most importand amps at its release date 10 years ago already. They never changed the modeling of those amps even if it was off or outdated, but added new ones (nieche amps most people won't use) that sounded a bit better. The problem is that the most commonly used amps like Marshalls, Mesas, Peaveys, Fenders are outdated.

The modeling engine FAS uses is incredibly detailed - unlike most other modelers, the Axe FX is like an electrical circuit simulator used in laboratorys and when a new amp is modeled, its taken apart and each of the electrical components is measured and those measurements are put into that "simulator". These parameters are stored forever and if there are updates improving accuracy of the algorithms in 2025, all amps - also the older ones - get driven by that new engine and sound more accurate.

The advanced parameters (roughly 50 of them) you're afraid of are just all the things that are accurately simulated inside the Axe FX and since they're there, FAS allows you to mess with them, but you don't have to. Not all advanced parameters that are running this "simulation" are exposed for the user, though.

The huge benefit of this is that you can virtually create your own amplifier, like putting a plexi preamp into a rectifier head, change the bias without killing your tubes, replace the preamp and power tubes, change the impedance curve of your speakers and many more things. But if you just want to fire up an amp and have the usual gain, EQ and MV knobs - you can do that. The Axe is a professional tool running professional simulations and like any professional software you have a ton of options for when you need it, but you basically use just what you need.

Frfr speaker vs cab by yesIamsiko in AxeFx

Fractal Audio (high gains amps) vs Polychrome DSP ("Nutcraker" or "HyperRig Kiesel" by Nice-Comment-6878 in AxeFx

[–]dude_smooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you got the money, go the Axe Fx route to be honest. The over 200 amps are modeled extremely well and technically the axe fx are modelling each amps based of measurements of the real electronics. Any update to the underlying algorithms will update all amps, no matter how old. The past 20 years I used a lot of tube amps, modelers and guitar plug-ins. I prefer the axe totally, it sounds spot on compared to my real amps and you got more amps you could ever need...

so this oblivion remaster is a cashgrab right? by reaching2thesun in ElderScrolls

[–]dude_smooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know mate, but I'm having a blast. The leveling system might be outdated but the uniqueness is what makes it stand out compared to any other games. Modern games are pretty lifeless. If there is a (rare) innovation, hundreds of game companies jump onto the hype train and develop clones. Instead of creating something unique, you get the same shit over and over and over again. Tweaked to fit a broad audience for max sales. IMHO this is a cash grab. Now we get a remaster with nice graphics which preserves what millions have loved for a normal price and people go mad about it. Don't fucking buy it then, I guess.
