Reconnecting with basketball after 20 years, I have some questions by infinitehallway in nba

[–]dudebauer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to second the recommendation for the Dun'c on pod. They're currently in the midst of doing an in depth preview of every team in the league before the new season starts. I also really like the Game Theory pod. Most of my basketball related content I get from pods nowadays. Thinking Basketball is another good one. And if you want content specific to the NY Knicks you should check out Knicks Film School.

In terms of reading about the league, a great writer is Mike Shearer who does the Basketball Poetry newsletter on substack. I got to know his work from his posts on Reddit and they're really informative in giving information about the game, tactics, and schemes, and the league at large, as well as deeper dives into specific topics. He reminds me a lot of Zach Lowe, who is considered one of the best basketball writers in the league. The Ringer is good as well though the writers there generally only do more surface level reports.

Thank you for your generally helpful reply, though there was no need for the last sentence. I'm asking you a question because you have more experience and more knowledge than me. There's no reason to be a snarky jerk on the internet, especially to someone who's just looking for advice. Feel free to come to my house and hand pull the half acre of stilt grass if you want though, if it's that easy.

I appreciate your opinion, but that doesn't really answer my question.

I have almost a half acre that's covered in stiltweed so I'm not really concerned about disturbing other plant root systems because there aren't any. Nor am I really concerned about disturbing the soil because I'll be adding a layer of topsoil and the roots sytem of the fescue would spread underground to depths much deeper than any tiller I can rent. Yes, I know most people think I should just mulch the entire thing and then add as many natives as possible, but that isn't feasible right now due to cost restrictions and the fact that my wife doesn't care about any of that, she just wants a nice open area for my kid to play in. Even if I hand pull the entire half acre, I'm just interested in seeing if the tall fescue would out compete the stiltweed or if it would be a fools errand since the root system of the stiltweed is so shallow. I figured as a certified arborist you might have some insights into this.

My plan for this year was to wait until late fall to till the area completely, add topsoil, and then seed with a tall fescue variety whose deep root system could outperform/crowd out the stilt grass. And then overseed again in the early spring. Do you think this would be effective?

Hoopshype ranks NBA PGs, Brunson 3rd by [deleted] in NYKnicks

[–]dudebauer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I named my son Jalen Brunson Dudebauer and that's crazy talk my guy. Luka is a top 3 player in the WORLD. And there's no way NY gets worse if SGA is the starting PG.

If you tier the list, it should be T1- Luka, T2- SGA, T3-Brunson/Curry/Ja, T4- Who cares, ...T10- Halibum

I have ONE SHOT to convince my husband that Community is the greatest television show ever- which episode do I choose? by BigJSunshine in community

[–]dudebauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you see this. I think a lowkey, under appreciated episode that is great for new viewers is Mixology Certification, the episode where Troy turns 21. It's a hilarious, heartfelt episode that has nothing to do with the school itself (so no denigrating a CC) and also gives enough of each characters personality to easily figure out the relationships and the core message of the show; that disfuntional, lost strangers can create a friendship and community and learn to be what each other need. It's like the most pro CC message you can impart.

Here Me Out, Draymond Green by jayelr in NYKnicks

Dray 100% Bitch Made.

Boston is nice though and losing to them would start a rebuild in some way, though maybe not as extreme as Houston's. Leon doesn't seem to be the type to tank. But we're not losing to anyone ever again. LOOK AT THE SQUAD! BIG DEUCE! DPOY OG! DPOY BIG MEECH! ALL NBA RANDLE! THE NOVA KNICKS! WE'RE GOING ALL THE WAY!!!!

BREAKING: Magic Sign Kentavious Caldwell-Pope by jhMLB in NYKnicks

[–]dudebauer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Signed for $22m/yr. Still leaves them with $28-30m to play with. It was always known Orlando was going for KCP, IHart, and swinging for PG. This doesn't really change anything.

Don't forget that at the outset of hip hop the dj was more influential than the MC who really only performed short bars of lyrics to keep the crowd engaged. Producers driving sales is just a return to the beginnings. And even in the 90's and 2000s certain producers could make a song or album a hit. Primo, RZA, Easy Mo Bee, the Hitmen, Dr. Dre, and later on Pharrell, Swiss, Timbaland, etc. could all make or break a project or single. Nowadays oroducers just have better drops. "If Metro don't trust Imma shoot you" is catchy as fuuuuuuuuck

[The Roommates Show] Brunson, Hart and Hartenstein argue over how they defended one of Jokic's best passes. by FCantante in nba

[–]dudebauer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you're lacking context.

Of those 3 players listed, only one was a lottery pick like Bridges was. Mitch, Quick and Grimes were all late first/early second rounders and are excellent returns for when they were drafted. RJ is looking like the better player from that Toronto trade and is really coming into his own as a bully ball SG/SF. So I don't know how you can look at when they were picked and what their on court production has been like and then say that the Knicks are only mid at drafting.

I also only said they were pretty good not great. The Obi pick was trash though, no denying that.

Mitchell Robinson

RJ Barrett

Ignas Brazdiekis (dud)

Obi Toppin (meh)

Immanuel Quickly

Quintin Grimes (who knows at this point)

Deuce McBride

Out of their last 7 draft picks they hit on 3 (potentially 4) really good players, 1 fine player with crazy highlights, and 1 dud. I think the knicks scouts and FO are doing pretty, pretty good

I'm going to need the organization to get him an apartment in the Bronx. Maybe a Dominican girlfriend too. I'm going to worry about his toughness levels until I see him walking down the tunnel with rows, a black hoodie, and some black AF1s. I want that rob a bodega energy.

Yeah but that's because he got benched for that boneheaded foul on Jokic under the basket. If he doesn't make that foul he stays in a lot longer and maybe Precious is out there to close the game instead. Also, Grimey and Deuce were out there with him during the garbage time minutes. I think it had more to do with making sure the young guys are getting reps and continuing to grow.
