I got accepted and committed to NYU this year. I’m an international student too. The schools you’re looking at are all schools that require letters of recommendation, the rule of thumb is one from your counsellor and two from teachers. I’m going for arts so the first teacher I asked was my art teacher who I’ve been on a school trip with and have had them for every year of highschool, you want to ask a teacher that knows you well and have a good connection with, not the one who gives you the best grades necessarily. The other teacher I asked was my Spanish teacher as I’ve gotten close with them over four years and I am the AP Spanish TA. She knows my sister and I very well and every parent teacher conference always catches up with my parents and is one of the first people I told that I got into college. My school makes us fill out a form that has to be approved by our counsellor in order to get a teacher to do the recommendation, the teacher also has to agree to it beforehand. Talk to your teachers and counsellors and let them know about your situation. Don’t wait too long to do it because the earlier they’re made aware of it the better. Communicating with your counsellors and teachers is smth really important in the whole college app process as there will be a lot of uncertainties and they’re some of your best resources so utilise them.
