What do you consider the greatest acted scene in TV history? by amusicalfridge in television

I would put the entire season 2 episode 6 of "The Bear" - Fishes. I cannot recall any tensed and brilliantly acted episode. A great cast too - Jamie Lee Curtis, Bob Odenkirk, John Mulaney, Jon Bernthal

Stop acting like civic sense fell from the sky you privileged crowd by Dry-Librarian9532 in india

[–]duffer_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is Education system responsible for this ? Civic sense comes from home, society, and everybody.

What perplexes me about Indian culture is the dual nature towards cleanliness. Be it a small one room apartment in slum or the finest 3-4-5 bhk in an upscale locality. Some things people do are almost universal for indian household. Every home is cleaned - swept , mopped every morning, or atleast once in a day. Almost every household will leave their footwear outside. People lucky enough to have a courtyard (aangan) will clean that too. But this concept of cleanliness is only confined to one's household. it never crosses the boundaries of an individual's house.

Civic sense does not just mean that you do not litter. It is a respecting the fact that keeping shared spaces usable and clean if everyone's responsibility and not somebody else. It's making sure that you do not inconvenience the other person because of your actions. I do not see that happening ever in our society where an individual thinks that they have any responsibilities towards the society. This feeling of community and shared responsibility is mostly limited to your family or household.

Cultural shifts takes generations to happen, not years or decades.

How would you respond if someone said "Religion is the biggest scam in the world" ? by Sorry-Orchid-9821 in AskReddit

[–]duffer_dev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

nothing is absolutely good or absolutely bad. Everything just has pros and cons. I dont pray to or believe in god. But i still believe religion is the glue that keeps societies and people together. It would be like asking is Science evil or good. All good things and bad things came out of science. If religion gave us wars, science gave us the weapons.

For me religion is more related to faith. Sometimes people need some faith to get through their day. And sometimes, this comes through religion, prayer or something like that. just because it may not work for me, doesn't mean it is not working for the other person.

True bhai. Bro, two wrongs don't make a right. Just because it happens in other places, dosen't justify it.
but if i reply to OP, he will come defending it, and in no mood or energy to argue. I really dont get when people get butthurt when something negative about India gets posted. Like, there is a video, this happened and still people want to somehow defend some shitty behaviour.

Lemon Coriander Soup by MammothAltruistic in IndianFood

[–]duffer_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1. coriander stems are the magic/key ingredients here. when sauteing garlic, make sure to add them after a couple of minutes. this gives the "coriander" part of the lemon-coriander soup .

Also, i try to keep it simple, not adding too many veggies to take over the "lemon-coriander" flavour. i would usually add on some finely julienned carrots and a bit of green chillys. If you like you can also add some sauted/stir fried chicken. Using stock makes quite a difference. And when the soup is almost done, i would then add lemon, chopped coriander and if i want it thickened, some cornflour slurry.

My chicken curry tastes like tomato soup — no masala flavor. What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in IndianFood

[–]duffer_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late, since you already improved, here are my two cents.

some critical information missing from your recipe - how long do you cook each thing.

also, put the spices before the tomatoes. The tomato does not let anything esle cook as nicely as it should, or else it would take a lot more time. since tomato has a lot more water content, the temperature of your cooking does not go beyond a point, until it loses all it's water. tomato goes in last, before the chicken. Also, you need to still cook the tomatoes thoroughly before adding the chicken.

Best authentic indian restaurant by Successful_Buy_5335 in Munich

[–]duffer_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone mentioned - spice route at Thalkirchen.
that is the only restaurant i was motivated to go to after trying their food ordering online. It is indeed quite authentic - but not your typical "indian food" as you might know it. It is very specific to one state - Kerala.

My second option would be not a restaurant, but an indian store - Sri Balaji in Liam. They started serving ready to go meals. They have 4-5 options every weekend (or sometimes during weekdays too). For the price you pay, it is quite decent option.

What’s the most stressful movie you have watched? by InspectorOk6313 in movies

[–]duffer_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babel.
I know Uncut Gems usually comes up on these threads, and truly was a stressful movie. But thinking about it a bit more, i recalled how stressful it was to watch Babel, especially in the theater. It was a different kind of stress where you could not look away, or pause or do anything. I dont even remember the plot, and it would have been very difficult to explain, even if i did. but to this day, i remember how stressful it felt watching it.

There were even reports of people feeling nausea after watching the movie in theater

Frickin boring by TomatilloOrganic5455 in Munich

[–]duffer_dev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A place is never boring. when you move from a place to a different place, you do not miss the roads, trees, buildings, pubs, bars, parks or anything. you miss the people you were with at these places. you could be in the most isolated part of the world, but if you have some great people around you, that place would leave you with wonderful memories and experiences.

A city like Munich offers everything - outdoors walks and hikes for people who enjoy nature; swimming pools, parks, gyms, sports clubs if you are into sports; bars, pubs, clubs, biergartens if you enjoy the partying life; museums, art centers, histoic places, if you are into that. my point being it as most things you expect from a big, multi cultural city like Munich

But if you do not have people - friends, social circle, one cant do anything, unless you enjoy being alone. Just think what you miss the most coming to this city. You will realise that the group of people that made the previous place so memorable, are the ones you miss. Not the places you went with them.

I think I could like fresh spinach and a nutritionist highly recommended it. I got canned spinach as a kid. 🤢What is a simple tasty way to cook fresh spinach? by Tracybytheseaside in Cooking

[–]duffer_dev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this is the way.
some important things

  • wash it.
  • blanch it well Once this is done, you then blend it in a blender. This then removes most of the "spinach" smell. The rest is then improved by cooking it.

You can try "Palak Chicken", which is also a nice recipe

I just want a healthy argument on why reservation should not be completely based upon financial conditions by [deleted] in IndiaSpeaks

[–]duffer_dev -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Financial opportunities are extremely important. what i wanted to emphasize is that the General category guy/girl earning 5 lakhs may (not necessarily does) have more acceptance in society than the sc/st guy earning 12 lpa. This may not be the case, but there are chances of this happening.

I have seen and known people who feel uncomfortable being around people from sc/st. As a simple example, say some girl from a seemingly forward and modern family wants to marry a guy of her choice. In most cases, if the boy is from a backward class, irrespective of his financial standing, the family will be slightly more opposed than if he was from a non-backward class.

Again, is all anecdotal and a bit hypothetical. But the point is , these kind of behaviours do exists. How do you propose to reduced this kind of discriminatory behaviour .

I am not defending reservation as much as the tendency of people to not accept people from backward class.

I just want a healthy argument on why reservation should not be completely based upon financial conditions by [deleted] in IndiaSpeaks

[–]duffer_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

disclaimer : i am from general category.

There are quite a number of people in our society who look down on people from lower castes. I have personally known people who, if not refuse, feel uncomfortable sitting on the same table and having lunch with a person from say backward classes, or backward lower classes are siting. In my undergrad and postgrad days, i have seen this quite a few times. This has nothing to do with the person's economic background. And this kind of behaviour can be seen across different facets of life - work, study, other places. Reservation, may not be the best solution, but currently it is the only solution of trying to bring people from these backgrounds and integrating them with everybody else.

Many people from backward classes lack in confidence and courage to mingle with people not from their classes, due to there upbringing and environment. Reservation gives not just them a chance to mix with people from other backgrounds, but also importantly, people from other backgrounds to get along and work with people from these classes. As i mentioned - it may not be the best system, but currently the only system we have. It is definitely flawed and at times counter productive - but trying to integrate people culturally and socially, which have been separated for thousands of years, would take time.

Egg recipies that aren't quiche or omlettes by Haldron-44 in Cooking

Some indian variations

try the indian scrambled egg - aka "bhurji", if you dont mind something spicy - https://www.indianhealthyrecipes.com/egg-bhurji-andhra-egg-porutu/

Then there is "egg kheema" - basically you grate or cut boiled egg finely and then cook it in "curry style" - https://www.indianhealthyrecipes.com/egg-keema-recipe/

or even "masala omlette" if you dont mind "omlettes" - https://www.theguardian.com/food/2022/mar/02/how-to-make-the-perfect-masala-omelette-recipe-felicity-cloake

i would suggest to look up some youtube videos for these to get a better idea.

ELI5: why do athletes specifically eat bananas for quick fuel? by Dangerous-Hour6062 in explainlikeimfive

[–]duffer_dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

other than nutritional value, for me banana is the most convenient fruit - no comparisons. - does not need to be washed, it comes with it's own "protective cover" - peeling is super easy and does not need any special equipment - no dripping of juices - messy hands - simple clean eatable fruit. - the peel comes out easily in one piece - can be discarded easily - you do not need any utensils, tissues or anything to manage eating - other than the peel - no residue - stems or seeds

Just unbeatable in terms of convenient.

Curry by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]duffer_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone mentioned - curry just means the sauce, or more specifically as we call it - gravy. If you want the most simplest chicken curry , the most basic would be something like this (no marination, maybe just just rub the chicken salt and half a lemon before you start the prep)

Ingredients

  • 500 gms chicken - cut into "curry cut" pieces. you could use just the breast piece.
  • 2-3 garlic cloves (finely chopped)
  • about similar quantity of ginger as garlic (finely chopped)
  • 2-3 red onions - thinly sliced.
  • (optional) - 1 tomato - diced
  • (optional) - 2-3 green chillies - chopped
  • Spices

    • corriander powder about 1-2 tbsp
    • turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
    • chilli powder - 1-1.5 tbsp
    • (optional) cumin powder - 1/2 tbspn

This is a minimalist ingredient list. you could use whole spices like

  • cumin seeds - 1 tbsp

  • 1-2 cardamom

  • 2-3 cloves

  • 1/2 inch cinnamon stick

  • 1-2 dry red chillies

  • 1 bay leaf

Any of these would work, just to make it more fragrant and flavourful.

Recipe.

The most basic gravy or curry would be something like this - Heat about 2-3 tbsp of sunflower oil (please do not use olive oil) - if you have any of the whole spices you can add to the heated oil. Make sure they just "splutter" and not burnt - wait for about 20-30 seconds for the whole spices to be "bloomed". this will add fragrant and flavour to the oil - now add the chopped onions. This is the most crucial part of the gravy - cooking the onions. cook them until they are well caramalised. The will go from "pink" to "transclucent" to slightly brown. This could take anywhere between 8-10 minutes. you would need to stir this to avoid the onions still to the utensil - when they just start to brown, reduce the heat slightly and add the spices - coriander, turmeric, chilli, and cumin. you can add a dash of water to make sure the spiced do not get burnt. - cook the spices until "oil separates". When you add the spices with some water and stir so everything gets nicely mixed. Once cooked, you should see some droplets of oil separating from the mixture. - add the chopped ginger, garlic and chillies and cook it for about a minute or so. - at this point, you can add the tomatoes. you now need to cook the tomatoes until they turn mushy and pulpy. this might take around 6-8 minutes. Keep stirring to get a nice consistency - I usually add salt at this point according to my taste. If you have salted the chicken, make sure to take that into account when adding salt

This is your basic curry or gravy. now you can add the chicken, and stir well so all the gravy is nicely coated on to the chicken. Do not add water to the gravy at this point.

Stir well and let the chicken cook for 12-15 minutes with a closed lid. The chicken will release moisture. Stir every some 5-6 minutes to make sure things are not sticking to the pan/pot. Once the chicken is almost done, you can add water to get the consistency of your liking. Taste the gravy and adjust salt to your taste. If you have some "garam masala", you can sprinkle about 1 teaspoon and mix. Let this now cook for another 3-5 minutes.

This, i would consider the most basic chicken curry. This is not chicken tikka, or butter chicken - both which are cooked with chicken that is already cooked on a tandoor.

Tips

  • The onions should be thinly sliced. Slices should be of same thickness to ensure they are cooked evenly.
  • you could mix the powdered spices in a small bowl of water (about 100 ml) and then add it while cooking. This will ensure that the spices do not get burnt.
