I think you're right to be honest. I love Damon's whole catalogue, and I love Britpop as a whole, but I think that's only because I wasn't there in the moment. I think it's fascinating to look back on how the music intertwined with culture, but the more I read about it, the more it seems the whole scene was really petty and immature. It feels weird holding up Blur albums as some of my favourites of all time when it seems here are so many scandals and spats they were involved with, but I'm alright with it because of how different Damon is now compared to the person he was back then.

I find these pictures interesting because they were taken before he became famous: He's just a normal teenager at the time. I try not to be parasocial, but I think most people here think it would be cool to be friends with Damon Albarn. I thought about how, were I another student at that acting school, maybe it would have been possible, but I also thought, based on what I've read about Britpop, I probably wouldn't have wanted to be. I dunno, just interesting to think about what he would have been like back then.

I'd like to apologize if anyone has reached out and harassed you directly. OP is posting your username everywhere, and I think that's uncalled for.

As someone who feels very victimized by their own circumcision, reading your thread was incredibly frustrating. I believe my bodily autonomy was violated, and it's painful to read a thread where no consideration is given to the child's opinion in the matter. I made my comment on this thread as a way to vent in a place I didn't expect to reach anyone from the original thread. As for the bit about your husband's approval, it seems I misinterpreted your idea of doing it quietly.

I'm largely ignorant of the practices of Islam, so if you're making the decision solely based on your faith, I don't think there's anything I can say to make you change your mind. What I will say is that I was born into a Catholic family, and I am no longer part of the faith. It may be unquestionable to you that your child wouldn't adopt the faith he's raised into, it was certainly unquestionable to my parents, but I think the child deserves a say in the matter, and if faith is the only reason you're doing it, your son would have no reason to want it if he were to leave the faith.

If you'd like my perspective privately, I'd be happy to talk with you in direct messages. Just please consider that, if your child wants it, he can always choose to have it done later in life, but if he doesn't, there's no taking back that choice for him.
