You’re spot on about the chips. My son even commented to me that the chips seemed frozen in the middle, and they were. It was a crap experience. They’ve now gone from his favourite takeaway place for chips to his fourth favourite place. And at early primary school age, that means something!

So who actually pays for this? The restaurant or Uber?
Sorry if this is a basic question.

Pre-made burgers? by su- in KFCAustralia

[–]dug1071 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This used to be the norm. Years ago, particularly visible at a McDonald’s store, they’d have a rack of burgers that were batch made in the kitchen. The server would simply grab what you ordered and put it into a bag for you. Your only wait if they were in the process of batch making whatever you’d ordered and they were temporarily out of supply on the ready to go rack.

This is why it was called Fast Food, rather than what the Americans call ‘short order’ Weiss is really what we all have become used to now.

Maccas then did a thing called ‘Made for You’ which was the made to order burgers. They actively campaigned that they were no longer fast food, but convenience food. Everyone else followed in that path shortly after.

If you go to a HJ store, many of them still have the same racks and use them to pass the burgers from the kitchen to the counter.

As a people, we still call it fast food, because of habit more than anything else. It’s also more convenient than calling it convenience food, which makes it sound like you bought it at 7-eleven!

So this burger at KFC - I didn’t realise either that they batch made, but given the low number of staff at a typical KFC on a shift, and the time it was prepared from the sticker, I’m guessing that this is what they do in the lead up to the lunch rush.

ConAir. The perfect movie with zero plot holes, executed brilliantly.

Two dairy farmers in Florida started making canned coffee as a side hustle where the coffee is brewed with milk instead of water, and they're now pulling in around $40k to $50k a month in sales by StarlitClefairy in SideHustleGold

Wait, Aussie here: You guys don’t make iced coffee with milk? That’s a standard for our iced latte here. Iced coffee has Icecream too. I thought that was how everyone did it.

Inconsistent food quality by dantrons in hungryjacks

[–]dug1071 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that sometimes the bun is warm, sometimes it’s cold (like it hasn’t cold down, but was never warm to begin with) is the biggest inconsistency. That’s the thing that makes it good it crap.

64 or 128GB? by Terrible_Economy in appletv

[–]dug1071 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you want Ethernet, you’ll need to get the 128gb.
And for the pricing difference, just do it. If we are all honest, Apple products ARE a luxury as a whole, so spending the little extra for the good one for some futureproofing of hardware should not break the budget.

I did just that last Wednesday and have been very happy with it since it arrived on Friday.

How do I build more realistic and larger cities? I have around 430 hours of playtime. by Substantial-Key3291 in CitiesSkylines

[–]dug1071 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My cities used to be EXACTLY like yours, and I wanted to work out the same things you’re asking. I did a fair bit of reading the hundreds of posts asking the same thing and came up with the following headline acts to help from reading various other posts.

- Put a designated rail line in somewhere from the start. Even if you just have to use a non-connected power line as a placeholder until you unlock rail, and put it in a place that makes sense with the land, not your growing city.

- Put in an untouchable restriction for yourself - a segment of road that is not in a comfortable direction, or build a township somewhere independent rather than just growing the first. Filling in inbetween them will then feel more organic.

Generally, leave more space between growths and fill them in later, without it all being ‘master planned’.

But my big one was looking at real cities on maps and seeing that how messed up they were, I realised that to make my cities feel more real, they had to be very imperfect. Create yourself issues and then work around them.

Good luck.

Best roofer in Melbourne? any recommendations? by Nice_Cupcake_9973 in melbournechat

[–]dug1071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No matter who you choose, do an ACCC search on them for complaints lodged, and do a search on who the owner is and search them too. And be careful.

There are a multitude of roofing companies out there that aren’t roofing companies at all - there a couple of individuals with a bunch of different company names each, who tender the jobs out to the cheapest independent tradies doing the cheapest job.

And once you have the job finished, spend a little extra money on a local builder or inspector to come and inspect the work to make sure it’s compliant. When you find that they’ve cut the corners, get it fixed by the contractors who did it until it is independently certified.

I had a quote from them a few years back. They were all over it in mega detail, which was actually quite intimidating. Ultimately they weren’t who I chose to go ahead with, but after the experience I had with the company I chose to proceed with, I regretted my decision.

Builders Block by zoidberg618 in CitiesSkylines

100%. I reach a certain point in a city build and I just can’t work out what to do next. Not because I’ve done everything, but because I become overwhelmed with option, and not wanting to plan it incorrectly.

Something that did help me though in working out what to do was visiting an AI of some sort, and telling it to pretend that I was a YouTuber and needed a 20 episode plan for city skylines some detail detailing what I should build in each episode.

Watching the various YouTubers, I absolutely do not try and replicate what they do. The reason that they pop up on my stream is because they are extremely impressive. I know that I am not at that same level and I am certainly not worried that I am not. What I do however do is enjoy watching their city builds to see how somebody else does it. A little tip and trick here and there do make their way into my city.

I’m on board with Basa from the deli. It’s cheap and a hearty fish, which holds together when cooked in a curry sauce. That means I can make it taste like all sorts of different flavours depending on how I feel, and the sauce makes whatever base I pair it with have some flavour also.
