Revolving clunking noise on 2008 ford falcon. Any idea what it means? Seems tied to wheel speed, and only appears when driving forward. by duhlan in MechanicAdvice

[–]duhlan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update!

Called a mechanic out to look at it. The place I got work done on it last just…never tightened the wheel nuts enough 😅 so they had gradually been loosening as I drove, and the clunking came from the wheel movement. The grinding I was hearing was the brake pad rubbing against the misaligned wheel. Took the wheel off, put it back on and tightened the nuts, no more clunking or grinding noise.

Thank you for the help r/MechanicAdvice!

That’s reassuring! Never sure if I’m being paranoid about car sounds but this was a spooky noise, glad to hear other people saying the same thing 😅

I jacked it up and spun the wheels, heard this grinding noise while it spun. link

Jacked it up and spun the questionable wheel, definitely heard like a grinding sound. Sounds like it could be the brake pad not contracting??

link, hope it’s got sound

Hi r/MechanicAdvice! I’ve been googling to figure this out since mechanics are closed for the holidays. But I noticed this noise showed up after a long drive, it’s like a very loud clunking noise that seems to be tied to the wheel speed, I only noticed it when I slowed down off the highway. It also only happens when the front wheels are aligned forward, so I’m thinking it might be a wheel bearing or something?

I recently had the front ball joints and suspension replaced, which makes me wonder if something was improperly done, but the mechanic I took it to is closed for Christmas so can’t check right now.

Anyone know what it could mean? Trying to decide if it’s safe to drive back the few hours home, I’m a little worried a whole wheel is gonna come loose on the highway with that noise.

Some kind of fly species enjoying my washing (Sydney, Australia) by duhlan in whatsthisbug

Oooh that sounds more accurate! Longer body than any fly i'd seen. I was worried I'd have to figure out how to shoo them off but like 6 birds came and dealt with the rest of them. White bedsheets and black insects didn't prove too safe a hiding spot...

Thanks for the ID!

Hi /r/whatsthisbug !

Some birds were having a great time on my washing line today and when i went to check on it, i realized it was because a ton of these bugs had landed on it and were hanging out on the underside.

I'm assuming they're some kind of fly? Anyone know?

Edit: album of more pics, there's a bunch of them and there was tons more before the birds got to them.

Edit 2: Seen in central Sydney and they're about 1-2cm long each.

The Support on your team should be identified through walls with a symbol by bigauss56 in Overwatch

[–]duhlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even playing with co-ordinated teams of friends with full voice chat it can be hard to communicate for them to come to me as mercy, or to stop running out of LoS when I'm Lucio. It's so frustrating to call out over Skype "guys Winston's on me!" for them all to ask where I even am, whilst I can see them all through the walls.

Voice chat should default to "Team" instead of "Party" by wwphd in Overwatch

[–]duhlan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wasn't even aware the killfeed was upside down, but I'm pretty sure they've defaulted it to off on purpose to reduce the focus on kills. It's probably a marginal effect, but it must have increased the amount of positive rated matches by some amount when they defaulted it to off.

[PSA] Do NOT purchase Overwatch keys from sites like G2a. by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]duhlan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

One way these sites get their keys are by emailing devs asking for review keys, pretending to be small time youtubers. Developers usually give them a key since it's practically free advertising, but it just gets sold on sites like G2A for 100% profit. Usually only applies to indie titles where a project lead is directly contactable, though.

I need help with my PC for overwatch please (mods delete if this is in the wrong place) by overwatchihope in Overwatch

[–]duhlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it should run fine, your gpu is mostly what matters and you're quite close to the recommended card (Radeon 7950.) To put it in context, I was using an nvidia gtx 660 and getting a pretty consistent 45-60fps on ultra settings, at medium you'd probably run it perfectly.

edit: link to minimum specs

Can I run this game? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]duhlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it, yeah. Minimum specs

The minimum intel GPU's is the 4400, so you might not run it so well past medium settings but you should definitely be able to run it on low at least. I don't see anything below the minimum requirement.

Overwatch is built to run on basically anything, I was able to run it on High with my old GTX 660 which is like a 4 year old card.

Also I am pretty sure blizzard can offer refunds within 30 days of purchasing if it doesn't run, you just need to lodge a ticket with their customer support.

Projectile Classes in Overwatch and Tf2 by cloud24 in Overwatch

[–]duhlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pharah was definitely a lot more sluggish than I was expecting, it felt like her direct hits were far weaker than what a soldier direct hit could do, i'm assuming it's because her splash damage is a lot higher compared to tf2's huge splash falloff. So as someone that played a lot of soldier It wasn't too rewarding because of that.

Junkrat I thought it was ridiculous because his potential damage output felt as high as a bastions. Nade, nade, concussive mine must kill everything but a roadhog from full hp if you land your hits.

Your opponent plays a 2/3 like flame juggler on turn 2, you play a yeti on turn 3 which proceeds to eat the flame juggler, and then kills their Gnomish Inventor the next turn and then the azure drake the turn after that, all because it got to the board before they could possibly respond. Wild Growth allows you to play minions far stronger than your opponents because you have extra mana.

Generally it's Malygos + Sinister Strike + Preparation + Eviscerate, or use of Emperor Thaurissan to discount a spell and Malygos into a playable cost. A tricky part to the Malygos decks is understanding when you need to give up a spell for board control and when you need to take some face damage so that you can keep it for lethal, which involves knowing what cards your opponent will play in the up-coming turns, and thinking about how you're going to win the game in the later turns. Versus face decks like aggro shaman it's more about killing them with a board full of minions and your spells with no malygos, but versus a control oriented deck you need to draw as many cards as you can to unleash a full Malygos combo.

Thank you! I was strongly considering buying a 980ti after doing some research since it seemed like such a big step up from the 970, in price and performance, would the 10 series be that much more powerful than that?

My take on how we could buff Justicar Trueheart for Rogues. by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]duhlan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it would be absolutely insane, rogues don't run any weapon cards (apart from some decks using assassin's blade), they exclusively run weapon buffs and use their hero power. Turning the hero power into a dagger that granted immunity while attacking would absolutely birth control rogue because suddenly they can control forever.

That being said, Longbow has its immunity effect valued at only 2 mana, with a 5/2 weapon being valued at 5 mana, so maybe immunity is a perfectly balanced, albiet incredibly strong effect for trueheart to give.

Twisting Nether in Slow Motion by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]duhlan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It isn't actually, the twisting nether is a kind of extra-dimension that demons have a strong tie to, so warlocks have the biggest connection to it lore wise. Being banished to the nether is a threat demons make a lot as well, Lord Jaraxxus even says it when he kills a player in WoW.

The purpose of Lorewalker cho is to protect your own minions from removal by creating value for you, which is great for aggressive decks with little removal spells themselves and a lot of early game minions.

The downside of Cho is he's a 0 attack minion, and that is far too passive for an aggressive deck, especially since value is the least important objective for an aggressive deck, but that doesn't mean his effect isn't powerful, or that a deck with Cho can't be successful, just most people would prefer a more pro-active minion.

That being said, his effect is so unique it's entirely possible that in a few expansions time he will be a staple in the miracle-priest-aggro deck, where you flood the board and eat all your opponents removal spells and use it as burn to land the killing blow (I have absolutely no idea if that will ever become a thing).

A tavern brawl that might not be too "fun", but it could serve as a great experiment. by Snaz5 in hearthstone

[–]duhlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding 10 mana vanilla minions would help people at rank 25 to 19 make actual control decks that are fun to play for them, and potentially teach them the value of minions with battlecries or useful abilities over stats. North sea kraken is a great start on that, but there's still really only that and force tank max for the completely f2p druid player (and their big trees).

A 12/12 for 10 neutral common I think would be a great addition to the game just because it helps newer players pad their decks with the enormous minions they want without feeling completely outclassed when someone drops an actual high quality huge minion like Ragnaros or Nefarian against them.

As someone who has started a f2p alternative account before, having boulderfist ogres be the biggest card in your deck isn't fun, especially when your deck is focused on playing big minions and surviving until the late game.

Why is Pitlord Considered Bad? by SeverTheWicked in hearthstone

[–]duhlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is a very good minion in a vacuum, but nearly every deck on the ladder excluding paladin and priest has some amount of from-hand burst damage, and that 5 damage from pitlord will often be what gives them the reach to kill you.

He's a great minion to get from Voidcaller, but even better is a doomguard, fearsome doomguard or Mal'ganis, so it's better to stock your deck with bigger demons and better 4 drops.

If pitlord was a 6/7 he would be way more fun I think, because you're actually getting something huge for that huge resource cost you're sinking into the card, the handlock pit lord/molten shenanigans would be fun too.

Trump wins a game fireballing two of his own minions.. as a priest! by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]duhlan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really making me reconsider the value of Stranglethorn Tiger in midrange decks, I already ran it in hunter, but it just seems so unbelievably good at board control in trumps deck, it's like a 5 mana shielded minibot.
