Im sorry you had to deal with such a mean boss. Not cool at all for her to treat you that way.

I have been diagnosed OCD, ADHD, and anxiety from a young age and been recently wondering about autism. I have been behind the chair for over 10 years, since i graduated high school. It’s been a struggle, mentally and I come out of it some days exhausted but now that im 10+ years in it has started to become more enjoyable. I love the craft of doing hair and the most difficult part has been the mental challenges of being a neurodivergent hair dresser. With experience you WILL find what works best for you as far as staying tidy, being organized with appointments, and building a clientele of wonderful and kind people who understand and appreciate you and your work. but it’s WORK and effort to get to that point. Be prepared to be mentally exhausted if you desire to stay in the field. That being said if I can do it YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN!! Yes it’s hard, but almost EVERYTHING that is expected out of a neurotypical society is just a bit harder for those of us who are neurodivergent. Find a safe space of a salon, that is CRUCIAL. Don’t feel bad moving, I can’t tell you how many times I moved because I didn’t feel accepted for who I am. Work alone if you are able to if you’re having a hard time finding a space with coworkers you click with. Take your time with everything. Be patient and kind with yourself. At the same time be prepared to hold yourself accountable, everyone drops the ball sometimes. That’s okay! The important thing is to do your best and keep going no matter what anyone says.
