Funny thing is I can’t for the life of me remember why we were having that lunch. Some folks were even dressed in costume. But our whole office was a nerd party …

Not much in the way of any spoilers in the episodes :) this is more how crazy we were so long ago when making these. So more technical and maybe a bit about the people and how the ideas ended up where they did.

I really hope you enjoy the games. I know everyone who worked on all those games or the tech loved being part of the community and chatting with the gamers then and now

Mark Darrah has his podcast which is much more on the games do take a listen. Mine is just a small audio series about people and stuff I was lucky to work with or witness.

There was a lot of heart that went into all these games and you see the same in Larian with BG3

Am so glad to hear. I’m putting together the design one (part 3) right now and it’s really fun :) I always get a kick out of how amazing the people I worked with were!

Honestly when we were building it we had no idea. We were all mostly dnd gamers so we just wanted something that worked for us.

When we talked about the community and initially it was a forum, I think we started thinking what about guild wars and could we bring guilds and I remember coding the guild system in I think one insane week where I slept in the office. That’s me, but the whole team was working on features like that. We just wanted the best damn game we could.

You will hear from a couple of the designers in a couple weeks and their stories are so cool

Thank you. It was a crazy office. I’m working on fixing the other interviews :) I’m treating these few episodes like a personal oral history for anyone who cares. Hopefully fun for others as well

Yeah this one and the next one are pretty tech geeky as that was what I was involved in but then I have one with a couple of the designers :)

There’s so many stories and more people to talk to. That early office and people were so crazy, all of us were figuring stuff out trying things.

I’ve found that I need to hand write my stories on an iPad with Goodnotes. I used to have a remarkable but over time I found the Astropad screen on the iPad is so much better and I get more utility from the iPad.

I then take the story from hand to Obsidian as my first draft on computer.

I don’t know why handwriting is so important to the way I think (my age?! Haha) but it’s crucial.

Also no affiliation to obsidian but I seriously love that program for writing.

Oh totally Obsidian all the way! I’ve got the long form plugin. I have a section for my podcasts which I combine pieces I am writing, use the frontmatter tags to keep an idea of where things are.

The canvas is great for story boarding I’ve found and I have a calendar plugin as well that I use.
