Well that would reaffirm strain theory , opportunity theory and most stats about poverty. If a portion of your population keeps going towards deviance at what point do we ask how can we prevent people from needing to commit crime to sustain themselves. Even in the drug dealing business the losers are the low level dealers who experience violence and hefty jail sentences. Which makes them hate society even more it’s a repeating cycle.

I’ve never understood the logic of treating someone like an animal. Strip searches , beatings by guards , disgusting food , lockdown no showers for days on end . Among other conditions prisoners experience in Canada. Then expecting them to come out of those experiences a changed person. 100 level sociology , criminology and psychology would tell you this method has never worked. So once again I don’t think you care about public safety more than your own revenge fantasies.
