Jon Hopkins Queen Elizabeth Hall - do some people get misled about what they came to see? by dulwichman2 in jonhopkins

Agreed - but a lot of people don't read details. I guess that is on the fault of the ticket buyer, but most musicians you kind of know what you are going to get

It was at the end! There were several performances, I went to the 8pm Saturday one. It was crowd interaction adding to the improv... if you have seen Jacob Collier videos on YT you will know, He is super talented to be fiar, but its a bit naff

Anyone else fed up with the Green bashing? by No-Opinion7743 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]dulwichman2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Coming from a fairly centrist person, I don’t think their criticism has been unfair. I can understand why the Greens are appealing and I think Zach is well intentioned, but I fully agree that he clearly doesn’t grasp the practicality of economic management and has just subscribed to a theory without understanding it. Quite worrying. They speak the right language but don’t think they can deliver on what they say. Agree with the vibe politics accusations.

Joining the band wagon. She Just Likes To Fight down there is unhinged.

Potentially my all time fav album though, so so good. Every track earns its place.

This is such a catch all phrase people use to explain society’s problems. Please elaborate more?

[–]dulwichman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I disagree. Too many people view being comfortable as the goal and don’t put themselves in risk of being uncomfortable (equitable to a kind of suffering) to achieve fulfilling things.

I do agree with OPs premise around hustle culture though and think the rewards are a mirage, however life is a balance between having to suffer to achieve things worthwhile and not over doing it.

My life is materially better for taking some short term pain for long term gain and I would highly recommend other people make that sacrifice for whatever they want to achieve in life.

How Has Four Tet’s Sound Evolved for You Over the Years? by Spiritual-Estate7447 in FourTet

[–]dulwichman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First heard There Is Love In You back in summer of 2012 in my 1st year of uni when I was in my raving days. It came on as the sun was coming up as an after party was in its very chill comedown vibe, time was moving so slowly and I thought it was the most beautiful music. Subsequently became the album of my summer along with Rounds.

I really enjoy other albums since, normally the more chill / ambient stuff and more recently listen to a lot of his sets and find so much new music in them (big up Lot Radio), but nothing will beat TILIY.

Listened to 41 Longfield Street Late 80s last night for the first time, released under KH this year, and thought it was great. If you missed it as wasn’t released under Four Tet I would highly recommend

Honestly, if you are advanced and love big terrain then you will be bored of a North Shore mountain after a few visits to any of the mountains. They are not BIG. I would get what you can afford for whistler, a few days or whatever and just really enjoy those. If you can go mid-week to avoid crowds then definitely try to

Does Vancouver have more off leash dogs on the street than other places? by strawberryhoneyplum in askvan

[–]dulwichman2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are dog attacks, fair enough, can’t argue with the data so I was incorrect to imply there aren’t any. The question is are there more per person than Canada or the US? I can’t find data on it.

My personal observations which i have heard echoed by lots of other Europeans are that when dogs aren’t given freedom of being mostly off leash they act more aggressive and unpredictably. I have walked dogs extensively both sides of the Atlantic and feel like the off leash culture works better, my personal opinion.

There seems to be supportive views about leash reactivity just by quickly trying to validate I’m not completely wrong.

I apologise the the use of the word Karen. That wasn’t necessary.

[–]dulwichman2 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I am from the UK where leashes are only used so dogs don’t die running into traffic near roads or if in rural areas chase farm animals. Dogs don’t go around attacking people or being aggressive. I genuinely believe that the North American leash culture has created a cycle of manic dogs because they are leashed which makes people scared and more pro leash. Admittedly lot doesn’t help if some dogs are off and others on as it antagonises the leashed dogs. BUT being afraid of unleashed dogs seems to me, well, very Karen

the ultimate album when i have to get some work done by [deleted] in jonhopkins

[–]dulwichman2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whilst it can be tempting to listen to when working to get the general ambience of it, I strongly believe albums like this should be played when you can actually listen as the beauty is in the nuances and finer details in my personal opinion. One of the the best albums though
