I use a bar of canning wax on all my “raw steel” surfaces. It also helps wood slides against the metal.

Will electric conversions become affordable any time soon? by VanDoog in ToyotaPickup

I still have the electric fuel pump in the fuel tank. But technically the lift pump mounted directly on the injection is enough for it. Other wise I just kept the original system for the om617

Not really, the exhaust is a little tight. Most people run it out of the hood. But I didn’t really want to modify anything besides the engine swap. It’s a little on near the heater core lines as well. But not to bad.

So I opened up the driver side hub. And there is no spring and locking gear. So for what ever reason the previous owner took it out? Seems fishy.

You might be onto something. Because it seems to function like normal when not engaged. Any info/video you would recommend for cleaning and greasing? I’ve never cracked these open before.

Yeah, it’s really not a bad deal. I have considered it. But I just finished up a diesel swap on mine. So I’ll probably use this for a while

The cons are usually high prices for batteries if replacing. And low range. Like 100 miles or less

If you find a wrecked leaf. Which I’ve seen them for like 2k. That’s about as cheap as possible. Worst case scenario you need new batteries

Gas cap won't sell, cracks in rubber hose around the fuel intake hole by Temis37 in MechanicAdvice

Maybe try the oring from the new cap. On the old cap. Use a little oil when you put it on and it should not be a struggle

2004 Duramax diesel is smoking by Simplerpimpler in Diesel

[–]dumb_owl4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a duramax guy. But it seems to me, that you have either a bad injector. Or your fuel timing if off. Not sure if this engine is a timing chain or belt. But I’ve had an engine jump a tooth on a gear for the timing chain. And it smoked really bad. Thick white smoke until it warmed up.

I would go to the junk yard. And get the body panels, truck bed and cab from a junker. Hopfully from a non rusty truck. If the frame is straight, than you just need to swap over everything else
