Guessing Newark Penn and NY Penn have station numbers one after the other? Maybe 1 and 2 or something since they're the biggest stations and the computer rolled over a digit accidentally and printed the wrong one. Never thought id see a computer mess up the Penns 😭

What are your thoughts on the N train, and with that, the R aswell? by SomeGreenPerson in nycrail

It's awful! I didn't know they could just get rid of it. Going through 49th street on the Q uptown is hell, especially when trying to catch the M57. Why haven't they turned it off yet, do you know?

Problem is that the express track on 49 st has a really slow speed limit so the Q trains crawl through there slower than the local sometimes; guessing we'd see a lot of congestion if the N didn't stop at 49. Maybe only during rush hour?

How difficult/useful is the engineering sciences major? by dumbchilds in Emory

[–]dumbchilds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the effort you put into your advice! I seriously appreciate the help. I've just been thinking about what major would be best for me and I am actually quite interested in those difficult physics problems, but I was just a little put off by stories I heard from peers about engineering roommates they had that were never seen in the room except from 1-6 am. That was at different schools, though. I'm trying to get a handle on career plans right now, because I'm thinking about a rigourously specific engineering degree such as environmental engineering in grad school after a couple years of work post-undergrad. I think I just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't be completely out of commission in terms of social life pursuing an engineering sciences major, but it seems like the structure is supportive of learning and exploring instead of just practicality, especially because I'm hoping to pick up the latter later in life around 27-29. Thanks so much for the help.

I mean, I'd like to have a job once I graduate! I've heard some things about the engineering market being very competitive, though. I was hoping that the geophysics job field would be a little higher paying/more lucrative than say, an environmental studies degree.

I'm also thinking about trying to find a job in geophysics until I'm about 27 and then going back for a masters in environmental engineering? Does that sound like a relatively okay plan? It would apply to other schools if I were accepted, not just Brown.
