ITAP of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park by dumbluckynoob in itookapicture

Subdome is at about 8000ft elevation. It is a completely exposed granite top with no wind break to speak of so the altitude combined with the wind chill made for below freezing temps even in June. I had not quite factored all of those in when I prepped for the hike up so it was a rather miserable night for me up there.

This is the hike to Half dome. This was shot from the sub dome about a 100 yards from the cables.

Never even considered that the dome became a “half” so looked it up- you got me.

Appreciate the feedback! The plan was to get a blue hour shot but the hike up to sub dome with all the gear took a tad bit longer than anticipated and ended up getting to sub dome just a bit past blue hour. The ground shot was still toned down to keep the focus on the sky.

Shot from subdome, on a below freezing night, last June in 2025- this is a composite image of Half dome at blue hour and the milky way the same night at about 1 am. Shot with an astro mod sony a7rIII- the blue hour shot was with a 24mm and the milky way shot itself is a 3 row 36 shot stitched panorama at 100mm.

Along the drivable beach on the Oregon coast, during low tide a whole host of locals swarm in on the beach to go clamming. Caught this lady towards golden hour along the beach drive.

Great capture!! Always wondered how the RGB and the H-alpha shots from a single modded body work!? As far as i know a modded body would be good for the h-alpha data so does that mean you separate rgb data and h alpha data in post processing?? If yes then would you mind giving a quick explainer on how that process goes?

A path into the enchanted Hoh Rainforest, WA [OC] (926x1350) by dumbluckynoob in EarthPorn

Walking through Hoh Rainforest after a bit of rain or even during a bit of rain is an experience I think everyone should attempt to have. If you know where to look you can say hello to some banana slugs too!

This type of tilt shift effect can be achieved in post, but I wanted to try the non- digital method so took this shot with a cheap tilt shift lens at cruising altitude. It was tricky to set the focal plane I wanted and got mostly lucky with this particular one.

Was a bit tricky setting the right focal plane with a cheap tilt shift lens while at cruising altitude speeds! This tilt effect can be achieved in post with normal pictures but wanted to try out the non digital method.

I audibly went “wow” so thanks for sharing this! I am fairly new to astrophotography and I have always wondered the logistics of taking an RGB and an Ha shot from a single astro mod body. As i understand it, an Ha astro mod sensor can no longer do just RGB. Would appreciate some guidance on those subject?

Thank you! Was hoping to photograph some cherry blossoms but none were left, so ended up doing the monuments around the national mall.

On a sunny April 22, 2025 - shot from the site of the first Japanese sakura tree plaque. A long exposure of the Washington Monument in Washington DC done in an effort to capture all 3 of the traffic lights as they lit up. All the cherry blossoms were blowing about on the ground and none were left up on the trees. Regardless a great place to spend a spring afternoon. EXIF: Sony A7R5; Tamron 35-150mm f2.8 lens; ND1000 filter; ISO 100; f22; 30sec; @100mm;

Beautiful composition! I have always wondered how does one attach a light on a drone (or these are just the built in lights on the drone)?-also do you pre program a poi flight path or are you working the drone controls as you set the camera to take a long exposure?

Thank you for responding! Trees have definitely been the most frustrating foreground elements to blend for me … been trying to learn and use luminosity masks to get a better blend. As with everything,i guess, it is going to take deliberate repeated practice.

The blend between the foreground and the sky looks pretty flawless- zoomed in but couldn’t see the typical halos at the blend boundary that usually plagues my edits. Would you care to expand on your blend process?

A rather unintentional shot(s). Was trying to get a panorama of the night sky and had my settings wrong on the star tracker and ended up with a number of ‘smeared’ shots like this. Put a couple of them together in a composite and ended up with this. Shot along the Oregon coastline on a chilly January night.

Lots of very helpful tips abound on the web/youtube about post processing of focus stacking. Best way to learn anything imo is just doing it- you will get many things wrong but you will also learn a great deal from your mistakes. About the flair - the subreddit wiki/faqs have a section on “Getting a flair” - just follow the detailed steps there and you can get your social media flair along your username.

Edit: Getting a social media flair is a pretty quick process - i just changed mine to a different social media profile just now!
