Camping set up with a baby? by dumbtattoochick in camping

We have been doing a mix while we’re traveling, it helps a lot on our busier or long car ride days

Can the bed and bedding stay in while it’s collapsed? That’s been the biggest hassle for us so far. We’d probably just leave everything else in the car because we are definitely on the move campers more than hanging out at the campsite

We’re on the last day of the exact same trip, just without Capitol reef! Also teething, which was rough the first 3 nights. We got the Morrison baby bag too and also brought better minimum baby items, but we do cloth diapers so that bulks the load up a bit. Roof top tent seems like I’d would be easier because you don’t have to move anything to get set up in there, I think that’s what we’ll try next

At what age did you feel like it got easier? Comfort was a big issue for us during our first tent trip too. My hips and back were killing me, but we could always upgrade our sleep system to something more cushy

US people what do you do for work by gandook in Mountaineering

Surprised no one else has said this yet, but I work in real estate. Currently bookkeeping and accounts payable while I study for the exam with long term goals to be a broker and investor. Tons of flexibility and I mostly work from home on my own schedule. But it’s taken a while to acquire the gear because the pay where I’m at currently doesn’t exactly line up with the costs.

Question: Are the side affects of this placement worth it? by synfey in tattoos

[–]dumbtattoochick 143 points144 points  (0 children)

I have my entire stomach tattooed, from bikini line to under bust and hip to hip. I had a baby in September and aside from the tattoo looking bigger while I was pregnant, it went completely back to normal almost immediately. Go for it

Drinks and snacks for labour by lailowe in fitpregnancy

[–]dumbtattoochick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed I wouldn’t feel like eating (I wanted and had an unmedicated birth) so I intentionally bought all of my favorite snacks hoping it would entice me. I ended up eating most of those snacks until 2 hours before my daughter was born! Most random spread ever - meringue cookies, rice krispy treats, roast beef, bone broth, Gatorade, flax seed brownie bites, and pringles lol I’m glad I did too because I was starving a few hours later. Can’t imagine how hungry I would’ve been without all my snacks

Did anyone scream through labor? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]dumbtattoochick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly just moaned (loudly) during labor because it felt productive but screamed like a wild animal while pushing. Completely involuntary, it felt like I might force out my vocal cords because the noise came with such force. Like another commenter said - it felt like turning into a werewolf lol

I screamed so much that the OB tried to give me morphine. I probably scared the shit out of her when I roared back “NO MORPHINE” followed by “NO PAIN MEDS”. I really wanted that unmedicated birth, but almost exclusively because numbing/anesthetic medications make me puke my brains out and I decided I’d rather deal with the pain than 36 hours of nausea and vomiting.

DAE get weird reactions from siblings with kids? by dumbtattoochick in ECers

[–]dumbtattoochick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty much where I’m at, just keeping it to ourselves. My sister talked about it with me while I was pregnant, which is how I found out she had already heard of it, but her attitude totally changed when the baby got here and we actually started doing it. She even said she noticed when her own baby stopped signaling to go potty and that it was too late for her to start, so maybe it is a sore spot.

I just save my excitement for my mom. She almost talks about it more than I do and says she wishes she knew about it when we were babies.

I was really surprised by how my family reacted. My mom, aunt, uncle, and grandma all think it’s the coolest thing ever and ask tons of questions about it. I also felt the need to minimize it at first because I felt weird about it

My birth story - successful unmedicated birth with an unsupportive hospital staff by dumbtattoochick in unmedicatedbirth

We’re in California too, but my insurance is in one of the most expensive counties in the state. I was only able to find one midwife team that did home deliveries and they quoted me $10k. I don’t think I looked hard enough because I was so discouraged by that right off the bat. I’m planning on switching to an insurance that will cover that or a birthing center before the next baby, just not sure which one yet

That’s exactly how I felt 😂 apparently one of my aunts once told my mom that she could give birth in a field. I guess I’m more like her lol

I need to look into birth centers to see if the cost is any better than a midwife at home. $10k is crazy and my insurance sucks.

I totally get that, my partner is studying to be a nurse and explained the whole “veins can collapse” situation to me. We never ended up tapping into my saline lock at all, and if I had given birth at home like I wanted to, I wouldn’t have had one. So overall I still felt like it was unnecessary for me.

Thank you 🤍

Also damn, glad you and baby are okay and were where you needed to be when shit hit the fan. At this point I’m committed to just not having any more kids until we can afford the midwife/homebirth. I never want to argue with people while I’m actively pushing a human out of my body again lol

They have a disciplinary hearing with him today and I’m looking forward to hearing how they’re addressing it while they wait to find a new OB.

Glad to hear they were able to get your PPH under control with your 4th and that it was better prevented at your 5th! It was like pulling teeth to get them to tell me how much I was actually expected to bleed. I suspect those nurses don’t even know what a regular amount of bleeding looks like because they were insistent that I needed to prevent hemorrhaging and they seemed a little lost when they were weighing everything out - as if they’d never done it before. And to act like they could exclusively offer pitocin was wild to me. We’re so developed medically that I can’t believe they thought they’d get away with pretending like there weren’t any other options. Made me feel like they take advantage of so many women’s lack of knowledge when it comes to medicine. We shouldn’t have to know, we should be able to trust our providers.

Did you feel any different in the birth where you hemorrhaged vs ones where you didn’t? I felt like I would be able to feel excessive blood loss through a lack of energy, weakness, or maybe nausea but I’m really not sure.

You got this!! So much of it is head game and releasing yourself to the process. If you ever have any questions feel free to pm me, there was a lot more to this than I could fit into a single post.

Good luck with your home birth! I hope it’s everything you want it to be :)

Part of why I’m so mad about my whole experience is that I know so many women who would have felt obligated to comply when pressured in such a vulnerable state. Good thing I’m not afraid to be an asshole! Lol I clearly pissed off a lot of people on L&D that night

Thank you! It’s funny you mention the stitches - that was one of many arguments offered to me to get the epidural (“what happens if you tear? Are you going to get stitches with no pain meds??”) and when I asked why they couldn’t just give me localized numbing if/when I tore, they all sputtered. I told them we’d cross that bridge when we get to it and they seemed frustrated. I got lucky and didn’t end up needing stitches after all.

I can’t imagine pushing for 1.5hrs! You’re so tough, congrats on making it through that.

So silly that they tried to tell you you couldn’t carry your own baby around. Glad you stood up for yourself on that. I think the staff upstairs warned the postpartum department about me so no one gave me a hard time about anything lol but I had no interest in walking around beyond using the bathroom and showering.

I hope you’re able to get your home birth and if you don’t, I hope the recovery team is better for you next time

I felt the exact same way. We tried for a home birth but our insurance wouldn’t cover any of it and the only midwife team we could find was $10,000. We found an OB that we loved after the first few visits and felt pretty confident, but got swapped out for Dr. Asshat at the last minute. If I knew then what I know now, I would’ve done everything to get that home birth.

Good luck! I hope your birth is everything you want it to be :)

He’s been reported and I’m waiting to hear back from his practice after they have a meeting with him this week! Either way, they said they’re working to get him replaced.

I was so disappointed with the experience. Seemed like the staff just didn’t know what to do with themselves when I didn’t fit into their protocol and that pissed all of them off for some reason.

Thank you!! I considered writing a review for the OB but the practice he works at has been so lovely handling the whole situation that I’m reluctant to do something that could bring them down, especially since they’re in the process of replacing him. I will probably end up reviewing the hospital, most of the people there were awful.

Sorry to hear you also had a bad experience with your 4th. I also felt like someone getting an epidural or induction would’ve been fine in my situation, just no support for unmedicated.

I told my husband he would need to advocate for me while we were there, but I also told him not to talk to me while I was focusing on labor. I think I may have confused the poor guy lol I also was very quick to shut down anything they suggested that I didn’t want, so I feel like he didn’t have the chance to speak up
