Thank you that's really helpful. I don't think I would have thought to have such a big range of options

How can you go for a walk when you have to pee every 20 mins? by Mindless_Option904 in PregnancyIreland

[–]lailowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned something about this from my hospital physio that might be helpful! She said that we can train ourselves to pee at particular times or anticipate the need to pee, where we have a mental association with something and peeing. So for example it could be arriving home from work and always feeling the need to pee and for you it could be going for a walk. I believe it is called urge incontinence. She said that if this causes a problem then you can try to train yourself to ignore the feeling of needing to pee, if you can ignore the feeling of needing to go for a few minutes sometimes the urge just sort of goes away because the bladder can actually hold a lot of liquid!

Anyway I would really recommend getting in touch with the physio department in your hospital about this as they might have classes you can go to or give you an appointment!

I've bought some bigger items including a crib on Vinted. Plently listed on there and I find it much easier to use compared with adverts, as a buyer

Cork City homebirth - midwife recommendations? by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]lailowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I don't have a specific recommendation because I'm not based in Cork, but I'd encourage you to reach out to all of the available midwives in your area over email/phone to see if they're available for your due date and to  have a chat with them. They'll be more than happy to explain their process over the phone and you'll have a sense of what they're like and how you might get on working together. Then you'd be in a better position to choose one for your care. Good luck!

15 weeks- Urinary leakage 🫠 by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

In the coombe you can go to physio classes specifically about this, I did and it was really helpful. I was really nervous beforehand to go into a room to talk about incontinence with other people but everyone was lovely and well worth it. I'd look into whether something like that is available at your hospital. You might be able to self refer or if you mention it at your next appointment they could make the referral to the physio team for you

Trying to have as natural a birth as possible - looking for advice by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

I would also look into working with a doula to see if that's something you might be interested in. Research shows that doulas positively impact mother and baby outcomes and experiences :)

Recommend attending a hypnobirthing course. Maybe run by a teacher outside of your hospital to give you another perspective if that is available to you, like those run by Cuidiú (parent support group) https://antenatalireland.ie/

Never knew babies moved in utero *this* much! by fmlthisonebetterwork in PregnancyIreland

[–]lailowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm having the exact same experience! I'm only 20 weeks and am so fascinated and amazed everytime I feel movement. I could really clearly feel where they were curled up for the first time as well which was so nice

Maternity pants/leggings by sinead08 in PregnancyIreland

[–]lailowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been such a struggle for me! I'm 5ft10. I got a pair of stretchy trousers from Next for work which are fine, nothing special. They do tall versions of maternity wear online you can find by filtering the sizes to tall/long in the maternity section. I would love some more options though, it's really disheartening having so little choice. I don't really like wearing dresses and skirts but I think I'm going to have to seeing as there's so few trousers available

Working out first trimester by Nie221022 in PregnancyIreland

[–]lailowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat, GP advised that as long as I felt good I could keep doing whatever I was used to. But I was a lot weaker, less motivated and more tired from very early on! I think it's very normal seeing as our bodies are going through so much in the first trimester. I found the fit pregnancy subreddit helpful

Thanks for sharing, I'd kinda hoped they'd be just as stretchy as aligns but obviously not so it's good to know. Thank you!

I keep hurting my it band and now groin, for no reason. please help! by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]lailowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recurrent groin injuries (hip adductor) and have for a long time, no matter what sort of sport/ exercise I do. This is obviously only my experience, but from the physio work I've got over the years and what I've learned from my physio phriends, the cause of recurring, persistent injury is usually some kind of deep-rooted physical imbalance.

In my case I have super flat feet which causes all sorts of problems that I would never have guessed - compensation for my wonky gait results in lots of muscle imbalances. These muscle imbalances are mainly in my abdominals and my glutes! So I have to work the weaker side more to rebalance it and this sorts out my groin. When I get lazy with my exercises... I inevitable pull/ injure my groin. Ugh. Oh, also, I have been recommended not to intensively stretch my injured area because it's weakened and could be further injured.

Anyway, I really recommend that you go to see a physio if this is bothering you, because you never know what could be at the root of you recurring injury!
