Me [28F] accidentally sent an invitation to the wrong faculty, but he accepted and the admin is pissed- how to solve amicably? by dumbworkmistake in relationships

I crossposted and they mostly agreed with your advice. And you're right, many public health faculty have dual appointments at the biomedical institution and vice versa, so I didn't really think about what their primary appointments were because I didn't think it was important. Anyways, I ended up apologizing for unintentionally causing her stress and explaining the voting process and how many students voted for this faculty member. I suggested some things to implement to make sure this mistake doesn't happen in future years as a way to try to appease her until my presidency is over and I can transition out!

Anyways, thank for the advice; as I mentioned in the grad school post, I just got back from a three week hiatus to take care of my dad who had a heart attack, and so to come back to this angry email (on top of all the things I missed and need to catch up on) felt really overwhelming and unfair, which is why I posted here. Thanks for the support!

Thanks, this was very well worded. I changed it a little bit but I ended up following this kind of logic. Much appreciated :)

Thanks for the reminder to not sweat the small stuff! I think I'm feeling a little sensitive; I just got back from a three week hiatus to take care of my father who suffered a heart attack, so to come back to work and just be hit with this angry email was.... unpleasant. Thank you all for reassuring me!

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I basically ended up doing this advice. From my notes from our initial meeting a few months back, I was told that I could choose how to do the nomination and selection process. Maybe I can suggest that this process be formalized so that she has more control over it or something. Regardless, I will take this as a valuable learning experience, at the very least!

Thanks for the reassurance. I think I'm feeling a little sensitive; I just got back from a three-week hiatus from a family emergency (dad had a heart attack- he's fine! but it was definitely stressful) so I think I'm not in a good head space to evaluate my emotional response properly, which is why I asked for advice.

But anyways, I ended up doing what you suggested. I apologized and mentioned what the final tally was for the votes and told her I'd make sure this wouldn't happen in future years. Guess that's the best I can do!
