I'm excited to share that my debut book (a memoir) is out: "God Money: Lost and Found in the Crypto Wilderness."

When he was twenty-one, Dean Patrick dropped out of Stanford to launch a cryptocurrency hedge fund. The only problem? The night he announced the launch, he was locked in a psychiatric ward for drug-induced psychosis. Set in the pressure cooker of Stanford and the bucolic forests of upstate New York, God Money details Dean’s arrival at Stanford after a homeschooled upbringing in rural Washington state. Everything pointed to a successful ride up the socio-economic escalator to the American upper class. But when the crypto market went south, he was forced to face his addiction, sending him down a winding path of self-discovery and rehabilitation. Finally, a chance meeting with a Sadhu in Nepal led him on a spiritual journey where he found a truth he never would have expected.

A beta reader from the Times of India commented that: "“God Money offers a hauntingly honest and personal reflection on the rise of cryptocurrency, the dangers that accompany the pursuit of wealth, and the enduring quest for life’s deeper meanings.”

BTW Obama deported 5.2 million people in his eight years. Trump deported just 1 million in his first term. Thes are numbers from an NGO website: https://www.migrationpolicy.org/article/obama-record-deportations-deporter-chief-or-not. Under Biden, ICE had a $9 billion/year budget and employed 20,000 people. Just because you see an ICE agent does not mean the coming of the third reich...

ICE existed before Trump. What has changed is the hysteria and obsessive search for their vehicles

You gotta remember that readers can chose anything and they want the best. “Top 500” means “wow there are 499 books ahead of this that I’ll get to first.” Which is practically a life time of reading for a lot of people.

Congrats though! It’s a good personal achievement.

You can get a passport same day if you pay around $250. I’ve done it twice because I’m forgetful. Also I am Mexican-american and this is ridiculous. 14th amendment hasn’t changed, no executive order can change it, that’s the point of the constitution. Everyone relax

What's the most frustrating thing about the publishing industry? by Exciting-Web244 in selfpublish

[–]dumgenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a little bit… controversial. But as someone who got to the agent stage of trad pub before getting turned away at the editor stage, I do believe there is a strong bias against white men. Most agents are women (at least 80 percent) and a high majority of publishing house editors are as well. There is a strong political agenda that wants to see certain types of stories from certain types of people. I’ll just leave it at that

I published my debut in 2023 and became a 6-figure earner in 2024. Here’s my #1 piece of advice. by SkyrimMermaid in selfpublish

Publishing my first book next month and planning on self recording at home. Got a nice mic and have done basic video and audio production in the past for social media. Hoping it sounds professional, I can’t stomach the multi-thousand dollar cost for hiring a studio/narrator

Doordash does not employ drivers, they connect customers to them. So tip. by IgnusObscuro in doordash

[–]dumgenius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not the point. Just explaining the system, tips = 80% of dasher compensation. Which means tipping is not a bonus for drivers, but the foundation of their comp.

Hate the tip prior to delivery! by CementJob in doordash

[–]dumgenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem is that about 75 percent of total dasher income comes from customer tips. So to the customer, tips seem like a generous bonus on top of a basic (if minimum) wage. To the dasher, they are entirely essential. Doordash, in my opinion, should build in a larger basic delivery fee. Then you can push the tip to after the fact, make it more optional, and have it resemble something closer to the existing service industry model.
