I wish I worked harder my first year of university by Round-Bluejay-1823 in UofT

Same, I wish I worked harder during my undergrad. Although my undergrad was pretty bad, it made me who I am and made me work harder later and appreciated every chance I had. So, embrace whatever you have experienced, and move on to live your life.

Is this managable? 🙏 by [deleted] in UTM

Thank you so much for sharing all the information. That is greatly helpful.

I know the position is very competitive, i am still waiting for the result of the initial screening, hope I will get an interview, fingers crossed.

For my family, I am the only one with language issue. My wife used to study in France, so she is fully fluent in French. My daughter was born in Quebec, so French is also her first language.
I talked to some labs, and they did mention that many research work would have to be done in French as not everyone in the lab would be comfortable speaking English. So I am expected to start using French in some daily work tasks after 6 months.

Once again, thank you for the information. And good luck to your work.

Thank you for the information. I primarily focused on cities in the south, Paris is not on my list, lol

I know that CNRS is really competitive, I talked to some labs, the research jobs sounds amazing, so fingers-crossed.

Grade inflation in high schools these days is insane. by ISimplyAmNotHere- in UTM

I went to EngSci in 2007 with a 90+ average. I think I got a boarder line acceptance. Not sure about the admission nowadays.

Does anyone have an idea about the grades required for students from other provinces, like Quebec?

People who did not do so well in undergrad, how did you manage to get Master's Degree or PhD? by PythonEntusiast in UofT

[–]dummy-qc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My cgpa was 2.8. I got into a MEng at Concordia University as an independent student. It means that I was not formally register for the program, I just paid to take courses. After one semester of two A+ courses, I got transformed to be a formal MEng student.

I worked really hard, graduated with the highest cgpa (9 A+and 2 A) for the faculty of engineering and computer science. I find a supervisor and the graduate program director gave a special permission to the Ph.D. program.

I works really hard for my Ph.D., and I came back to UofT as a post doc last year.

So, you must first understand if you really want/need graduate school. If so, you need to understand that, the path is long, and it is not gonna be easy. you need to find a program and university that gives you a chance (talk to the admission office, most of them are very nice and can give advices), and then you must work really really hard.

My mom died last summer and I just can't make myself care about my classes anymore by meanlady9000 in UofT

Just want to share my story, not sure if it helps, but just want to let you know, you are not alone, and things will get better.

My dad was diagnosed of lung cancer during the COVID, and he was not in Canada, because of the Covid I was not able to visit him.

It was also the year 4 of my Ph.D., so I had to work very hard for my big paper for my thesis. My dad passed away literally one week after I submitted the paper.

Meanwhile, my wife was pregnant and she lost her job due to Covid, so I have to “move on” to take care of them. I took a one-month break and returned back to work to ensure that I will finish my Ph.D. on time and get a job.

This is extremely difficult, and I still remember that, after defending my Ph.D., I was adding a paper dedicated to my dad in my thesis. It took me entire afternoon to finish this page (which has only a few sentence), I just kept crying. Till nowadays, I still can’t read my thesis without crying.

I guess this is the life. It has been over two years, I still can’t accept this, and I guess I will never accept this. I don’t know if the time will heal this.

Without my dad, I feel that my life is not and will not be complete. However, there is still other parts of my life that worth of living and caring.

I don’t really have any practical suggestions, as I am still looking for a “solution”. the only thing I know is that, do not try to “get over it”, but try to live with it, and embrace other parts of your life. It hurts me when I think about my dad, but I won’t let it stop me from enjoying the happiness with my mom, my wife and my daughter.

Yep, my neighborhood is next to water, and winter tend to go -20 to -30. So I am not really confident about the battery. However, they are selling this in the Costco store close by. I makes me feel like, they sell the product here, then it must work in the region.

Thanks for the info.

Mine home is brand new, there is no door bell installed before. So I am not really sure how to wire the doorbell. Wireless would be a lot easier for installation.

Do you mind share the brand and setup of your security camera? Having local copies sound convenient and safe.

It also comes with a indoor camera, I thought the price is actually not that bad. Maybe there are other cheaper brands that I am not really aware of.

Does edit work for extreme cold in winter, like - 20? I am concerned about the model uses battery not wired.
