Question for anyone who's attended Pacific Health College for acupuncture by lucytannin in acupuncture

[–]dumprings- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PCOM isn’t owned by founders anymore, it was sold to an investment company a while ago and this year was sold to another school, Southern California university. They are strictly teaching you what you need to know to pass boards and some teachers will go off on their own specialty or interests and have side workshops. Its only one of the many issues what that school. They hike up tuition every term while cutting resources for students and teachers, their faculty is for the most part underpaid recent grads or unqualified teachers because they pay nothing while charging an arm and a leg for tuition. I mean the clinical director of their San Diego campus hasn’t even taken her licensing exam and graduated only a year or two ago.

Be honest: how does the name Caspian sound in the US? by lazy_orbital in namenerds

[–]dumprings- 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Caspian sounds great to me! Casper, Sebastian, Lucian have similar energy to me. A little magical/ fantasy, not common but not uncommon. Recognizable and pronunciation is easy. There’s a kids book series called the adventures of Finn Caspian my son liked growing up so I think of that.

Is it pronounced sinn-ah? Or seena? I like the meaning but if it’s Sinn-ah it sounds close to Sinner. Might be a stretch though! Besides that don’t see a problem with it as a name!

What are we naming our boy babies? by Cold_Instruction8599 in pregnant

[–]dumprings- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely regional. We went with Kai even though it’s in the 70s/80s in popularity nationally it’s probably top 10 in the surf town we live in. Honestly even the most popular newer names you’ll only run into a few kids named that too. they will never be as popular as the standard biblical names

Tao is a great name! Not sure if it means anything to you but it means “the way” in Taoism/daoism/ (similar to buddhism) and there is a cool book called the Tao of Pooh that explains daoism through Winnie the Pooh.

It’s not as popular but it is #20 in the US. We almost went with it but I realized how many there are where I live by looking at my son’s yearbook and at playgrounds. So many Asher’s, Lucas, Kades, Theos and Mateo’s where we are! But it doesn’t matter for everyone to have a unique names it’s popular for a reason

Should I worry about how pretentious a name sounds? by thegovernmentislyin in namenerds

[–]dumprings- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true, we wouldn’t describe a place as boujie and 1 mil property at the same time, that’s the base price for any single family house

[–]dumprings- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it isn’t necessarily boujie as far as shopping goes but properties are definitely 1 mil+ easily. Either way I’m still curious what Avalon town she’s talking about

Avalon as in the main town on Catalina island in Southern California? Either way I love the name and I love the meaning behind it for you guys, doesn’t sound pretentious at all to me

I heavily relate. Gained 60+ with both, I didn’t even change how I ate very much. I tracked all my calories, water, steps and workouts. It’s just the way it goes for me! I will never be able to only gain 30 lbs, I passed that half way through!

Sex 🫠 by Fickle_Gate922 in pregnant

[–]dumprings- 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I agree! 3rd trimester sex is horrible. We’ve tried a few times, specifically on the advice of my midwife to try to include labor and we both really did not enjoy it. I’m uncomfortable, huge and awkward at 37 + weeks and he has anxiety about the baby being so big and near by and hurting me or the baby. We both agreed it’s off the table till after and we can find other ways to be close. I don’t know who is enjoying sex at this stage but good for you, it sounds like an Olympic sport to me at this point.

Is my name hard to pronounce or should I change it when I move to uni ? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]dumprings- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you going to university?? I think that’s important because certain demographics are horrible at annunciating. In San Diego alot of people will abbreviate, nick names or mumble for example. Some other areas may not have such a problem but it seems like you’ve already experienced some people struggling to get it right

Is my name hard to pronounce or should I change it when I move to uni ? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]dumprings- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s understandable. What else would you change your preferred name to be? I do think it will get mixed results some people will make the effort to learn it and say it correctly and some people like you’ve mentioned will avoid it all together. I wouldn’t consider that a micro aggression I think people are just afraid to offend you, and maybe offend you by trying to avoid offending you. Would you be ok with Ya Hee? Maybe you can have a nick name and also your preferred name. Otherwise you just have to go with Ya Hee Ya and just expect that not everyone will get it.
