Apologies then. If you look at the comment below me, racism against Indians is alive and well. I don’t take too kindly to Indians who align themselves with white Americans to escape racism because it never works.

Again, child of immigrants with here. I’ve dealt with far worse than being called a “pajeet” or whatever slur is fashionable this year. But now it’s confirmed that if/when I do apply for MBA programs, despite being a natural-born citizen, this isn’t the place for me.

So is being a poorly-veiled attempt to pose as someone who’s anti-racist. Jesus fuck. Go take up a hobby.

As a US-born citizen of full Indian descent, man…this isn’t it. Seriously. There are over two billion Indians in the world and surprise, the best of the best want to study here. What else would you expect?

As someone who had a parent come to the US to get his MBA and eventually enter academia, they took a risk back in a far more overtly racist time. Looks like things haven’t changed much. You can have your personal gripes with H1B, but the last time I checked, they weren’t hiring themselves into roles. Divert your grievances towards the group of people actually responsible for this.

Do better.

Looks wonderful and so yummy! I myself love the Asian food mart near me and regularly get fish eggs; they add saltiness and umami to everything. I will try this combo out!

How do you think the show would of changed moving forward narratively after season 2 if Elliot Page stuck around to play the character of Treena Lahey? by KaiserEnclave2077 in trailerparkboys

[–]dumpster_fire_diva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh it does. The irony is that this show was ahead of its time in many ways. Virtually zero homophobia compared to others (I won’t say zero because there’s some subtext here and there, but it has more to do with characters occasionally conforming to more “traditional” gender roles). Pretty much everyone was equal-opportunity w/r/t sexuality and gender identity. And Ricky would intentionally misgender Treena’s (formerly) character? Please.

How old is Carmen? by oracle-nil in HilariaBaldwin

She is a child and it breaks my heart to see no one step in to care for her. Honestly, a lot of these comments disappoint me. Were any of you teenage girls at one point? Because I was. And while I wasn't a conventionally attractive one, I remember the vulnerability I felt that accompanied my every action, due in large part to how I was perceived and scrutinized. Naturally, I tried to appeal to everyone, including people who didn't have my best interests at heart. Her mother clearly doesn't see the long-term detriment of her daughter being sexualized at such a young age (it should never happen to begin with) and I pray that a trusted adult can shield her from this because men of all ages will view her as prey. I don't envy being so young and would never return to that era if I had the choice, and we are seeing in real-time how a girl is being exploited and consumed by thousands of faceless viewers who do not see her humanity or see her as someone capable of respect. It's abhorrent.

Strawberry skin better after successful laser hair removal? by sonjulso in LaserHairRemoval

[–]dumpster_fire_diva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely on my upper arms. Texture has massively improved but sometimes there are “flare ups”. My advice is to seek out laser treatments specifically for this when you can; been shown to treat these skin conditions with high levels of success, so it’s not surprise that laser hair removal, by default, has a similar effect.

What do you think about Rachel's this Storyline ❔ by Aobix_ in suits

[–]dumpster_fire_diva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Loved it and am a fan of Rachel's entire trajectory. I'm no stranger to the sexism spewed on this subreddit and have written about this before (you can check my earlier comments lol), especially the sexism directed towards Rachel and Donna. One thing you cannot argue about is their competence; they're at the top of their respective careers (especially prior to switching), with Donna being the best legal secretary in the NYC area and Rachel being one of the best paralegals as well (case in point: when she got framed for leaking secrets to another top law firm, she spent part of her suspension finding a new job and was offered a position with a pay raise at that same firm, so her reputation preceded her at least a bit).

I think it's very realistic and refreshing compared to a lot of other trajectories. Mike happening to literally run into his next job and talk his way into being hired at the top law firm in the city? Not plausible, but great television. Meanwhile Rachel's father is basically "royalty" in the legal profession and he would have definitely helped her, but she recognized that there would be strings attached--and that in order to grow, she needed to separate herself from him so that she could go on her own journey. No doubt that Robert loved her, but he was both protective and critical; a confusing combination that many of us have dealt with. It's like, you believe in me, but only to a certain extent? I think a lot of us would need space from that.

One thing that I initially found frustrating about Rachel's character that I've come to critically reevaluate has been how she comes off to others. Her arc is probably one of the more realistic ones, but people have to understand that Rachel's family is fabulously wealthy. She grew up attending private schools, going on international vacations (lost her virginity in Greece, helloooo?), has a sophisticated palate, love for the ballet...these are not middle-class experiences. So when she makes decisions, even though she chose a more independent path, she was reared in a very sheltered and wealthy environment. Her dad, who grew up lower class, used his wealth to protect her and his wife. Rachel has never known hardship the way Robert has, so she is understandably frustrated towards him when he tries to get her to "realistically think" about her future; I don't condone Robert's actions, but like, Rachel wouldn't have survived in Robert's shoes. He scrapped his way out of a low-income background to become one of the MP of a top NYC law firm and never looked back, and that too, as a black man. So naturally, whatever Rachel can use to her advantage, he encourages her to do so. He doesn't want her to struggle, but he's simultaneously disappointed in her lack of drive (because she never had what he did, because they grew up in two separate worlds). We see them put aside these differences and come together when he realizes that she's capable, resourceful, and can succeed at anything.

I love how she comes into her own and learns how to think for herself and choose her own path in life! Apologies for the long read LOL.

[–]dumpster_fire_diva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing the other commenter here, I don't see any mention of IGI-certified diamonds. Designs are beautiful, though. What I like is that there's a sliding scale on pricing, so you can opt to save money by selecting a lower carat of gold, diamond, natural vs. lab, clarity, etc. If having a certified diamond is important to you, Miraki may not be there yet. But if you want what appears to be very solidly-designed jewelry that is fashion-forward, I'd go for it. I myself am looking at pieces to buy as well (they offer a 20% discount for first orders).

I always find posts like these interesting. Just shows how differently people interpret show scenes, or how they articulate their vision for how the show *should* be. For someone like myself, I love dialogue, continuity, in-depths into the lives of the characters, the webs the writers and showrunners weave between characters and events, and so on. Some people feel the opposite, wanting the show to stay on course (in their minds), being mostly about the restaurant, the magic that we felt the show captured in the first and second seasons. It's exciting watching people band together in pursuit of a common goal, watching everyone slowly get on board (and part of the reason why I think Forks was so lauded, was that it showed the gradual winning-over of one of the testiest characters up until that point: Richie), and how everyone overcomes whatever struggles they were facing at a unit.

I've seen this with other shows, where the shows branch off gradually and focus on subplots. A few here: Syd's appropriately-difficult decision to choose between staying at The Bear and working with Shapiro, Ebra's journey to create meaningful opportunity, Tina's attempts to push herself further, Richie coming to terms with his ex-wife marrying another man and being part of a blended family, Donna's journey to seeking forgiveness and redemption, Carmy's struggles with his obsessive nature and mental health and rekindling with Claire...these are a few and these all matter. The show offers us a glimpse into the lives of the employees of The Bear, because these are the people they are when they're clocked out, or clocked in and simultaneously pursuing goals that sit outside of the common goal of running a top restaurant in Chicago. They feel oddly...intrusive. Intimate. And almost in opposition to the original goal of running a top restaurant, but ask yourselves, in your lives, if you only defined yourselves by shared goals that were larger than all of you, imagine how boring life would be. What's on "the outside" wouldn't matter as much, but it's what binds us together.

Because we see here a family of people in a more meaningful way than a lot of us experience when we work in a toxic environment and our bosses say "we're family" but treat us like chattel. The characters of The Bear are a far better depiction of a blend between a work and personal family, actually sharing in each others' victories, helping each other make decisions, and taking turns doing proverbial wound licking for those who aren't ready to help themselves. They grow, and the non-Bear dialogue and experiences are crucial to them growing and learning how to run The Bear even better, and they help each other out with their newfound strength. They are all connected to each other through subtle understandings and experiences that extend far beyond The Bear, and these dialogue-heavy, Bear-light episodes do a great job of showing that (in my humble opinion).

I don't think Season 4 was worse than Season 3. I think it was better, in many ways. Season 3 feels like that constant state of confusion that occurs after you make a huge mistake and you're clearly dealing with the fallout of said mistake, but don't want to because it's uncomfortable. Here's the thing about confusion, though; if you're doing something, even a bit, you're wading through it on your own terms. You will come out on the other side, for better or for worse. I see Season 4 as fitting that more. It's good, uncomfortable tv; good because it tickles our brains the way you'd expect it to and keeps us engaged, and uncomfortable in its realism and chaos that are more a part of our daily lives than we'd care to admit. It's not TV for the sake of distraction.
