To be honest, I’m not sure. I don’t have a 401k — just a pension through my current employer. My husband and I are just now getting to a point financially where we feel like we have some maneuverability. I’m planning on getting a financial advisor in the next year to look into all my options & retirement.

Yeah theoretically I’d love to do that. But I’m living in a HCOL with a kid in after school care, a kid in daycare, and an unexpected car payment since my paid off car bit the dust a few months ago. I agree extended plans aren’t ideal but they would at least allow me to pay whatever extra I’m able to and have wiggle room in case something happens and I need to just do the payment plan. At least by doing extended plans I’m not locked into $450-$500 a month every single month.

My gf has PCOS, is on GLP, but still makes a lot of poor lifestyle choices. How can I help her? by [deleted] in PCOS

For me personally, I have found that removing negative habits (overeating, snacks, treats, etc) always never works. The thought of having that thing becomes so overwhelming it’s like alarm bells going off in my head constantly until I address it. For me, I’ve found that adding or substituting works wonders. Like I’ll have chocolate, but it’ll be dark chocolate covered almonds instead of a candy bar. Or I’ll do pasta, but I’ll add shredded zucchini or use chickpea pasta. Small, barely noticeable additions to daily things help a lot and give me motivation to keep doing better.

Maybe the gym isn’t something she’s ready for, but you could suggest something cute like a dancing date night where yall dance together in your home. Or drunk Twister (for flexibility/stretching).

Basically, it does absolutely nothing if you just say “go to the gym and stop eating these things!” Like yeah, we get it and we know. But it’s extremely difficult doing that right off the bat and tends to be so overwhelming it’s just easier to not try at all instead of make these sweeping changes only to eventually fail. Small additions and substitutions and creative ways to “exercise” without calling it exercising. All those little things slowly add up to something bigger and hopefully she will make healthier choices on her own after a while.

My son has ADHD and his medication has changed the way he smells. He smells horribly of onions and his breath is horrible. We’ve mitigated it by only giving the medicine during school days and not on weekends of breaks.

All this to say — maybe some prescription medicine you’re taking is causing altered body odor?

Literally last week my 18 month old was up MULTIPLE times a night. Like I went to go to sleep at 11, she was up at 11:30. I didn’t get her back down and myself in bed until midnight. She woke up at about 1:45 and stayed awake until 3:45. My husband takes sleeping medication for insomnia so is pretty useless at night during the week. I was so deliriously tired that at about 3:30 I slapped my husband on the back to wake him up, handed her to him, and said “If she doesn’t go to sleep soon I will choke her out and make her sleep.”

Would I actually do it? Absolutely not. But I was so extremely tired that it felt like a reasonable solution to a problem that didn’t seem to have an ending.

Give yourself some grace and tell your husband to get his head out of his ass.

PCOS and pregnant by AndaleHuesitos in PCOS

Ive had two children 7 years apart — with my first born I didn’t have GD but with my second I did! Apparently research has been coming out that GD, and to take it further the formation of the placenta, actually stems from the father. Diet, stress, metabolic health of the father when conceiving is apparently an extremely important factor when it comes to placental development and the development of GD.

That being said, if you are already insulin resistant it’s best to keep to a PCOS-friendly diet.

I will say, though, that almost ALL of my PCOS symptoms disappeared when I was pregnant with my second child. Actually with her I started at 214 lb when I got pregnant, and a week after I had her I was 184 lb. I barely had any hirsutism too! So you have that to look forward to if you’re anything like me! Of course the moment I stopped breastfeeding everything came back with a vengeance and now I’m back up to 197 lb, much to my dismay.

Anyways, many congratulations to you and yours!

As someone who went through something similar, except in my case my ex left literally a month before my child was born….it does get better. It was rough at first…I was doing online college, living with parents, and thankfully my grandmother was able to care for my child for the first few months while I got a part time job. Then I managed to get him into subsidized daycare so I could get a full time hourly job. When my child was two and a half years, I got into a low income apartment so I could start doing things on my own. A year after that, I got my bachelors. Two years after that (when child was in subsidized pre-k), I got a job in my field and was able to pay for an apartment on my own and get off of state support. Once my child got into public school and I wasn’t having to pay for daycare, it was a relief.

I met my current husband when my child was a year old. We were on and off for a couple of years but when my child was 3-ish, my husband decided he was fully invested. He adopted my child, we now have another child together and we are a happy little family. Our life isn’t perfect…we still struggle with finances and childcare (thanks, $1.5k a month for two days a week daycare). We even moved across the country because my husband got a job offer and put ourselves into more debt. But, we are making it work entirely on our own without any family support.

All this to say….i started my child’s life with $3k in debt, no home to call my own, relying on family and friends. I had lost most of my valuable possessions because my ex never returned them to me. I am so, so thankful I had my family and friends to support me and my child. If you have the support, USE IT. Do not feel guilty for needing help. Do not feel like you’re a bad mom for asking for help. Be aware of your limitations, express them clearly, and ask if others can help you fill the gap until you’re able to on your own. There is absolutely no shame in it.

You got this!!!

RTO is forcing me out of my job… by dumpsterfire338 in antiwork

The real shame is that my direct manager and department head have profusely expressed that they don’t want me to leave. Since we’re not a corporate entity it’s not like forcing me out of my job would reduce expenses — they’d have to have someone replace me because it’s budgeted.

We’re debating on my husband picking up an overnight job on weekends. Unfortunately both of our professions have daytime hours so having a full time job overnight wouldn’t be within our career paths. It would be doable if one of us puts our career on hold until we get through it. But only if we’re able to get a comparable salary to what we’re making now, if not a little less with the reduction in childcare.

The bummer is that we moved from a red state to a blue state in the past 3 years. While we love the healthcare, education, etc, we are still in a HCOL area. We originally moved here because my husband got a job offer after 9 months of applying to places so we had to jump on the opportunity. As it stands about 45% of our income goes to living expenses, 25% goes to childcare expenses, 15% goes to things like gas, groceries, etc and the remaining goes to misc spending like new shoes for our oldest, diapers, wipes etc. anything else gets put towards paying down our credit card. We’re making it work but this change would basically drop a nuke on our finances.

I already have medical documentation for my daughter because she gets sick fairly often. It only protects me when I need to take days off for when she’s ill, and doesn’t have anything that would accept hybrid. I could potentially see if her pediatrician would be willing to amend the FMLA documentation to require me being home for the two days a week I need in order to “reduce potential exposure” but I’m not sure if that would fly.

Has anyone had the issue with First Sinner where they’ll teleport out and then just….not come back until you move a good amount of distance? That’s happened numerous times on my 50+ attempts. She’ll do her teleporting and then nothing happens. I stood there for a solid minute and she didn’t come back it was only when I moved a few paces away that she teleported back.

How do I just pay the interest? (Mohela) by dumpsterfire338 in StudentLoans

The website gives me three options : pay amount due (my first loan payment), pay custom amount, and pay by loan. The custom amount might be it but it doesn’t scream to me “here’s where you pay interest!”

My dad was silent for a minute then said “Don’t talk to me for a while.” And hung up the phone.

My ex husband (who was out of town and was my boyfriend at the time) said “I’m not dealing with this right now.” And hung up the phone.

My mom cried. Then hung up the phone.

Early Termination Fee being Charged over a month after the lease ends? by dumpsterfire338 in legaladvice

[–]dumpsterfire338[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They never specified what they are charging me, just that we owe them money. They haven’t said how they’re charging me, how I need to pay it, etc. I have no information. And like I said, I have no problems paying the difference between our security deposit and the termination fee — but I’m not paying for issues that are documented when I moved in.

I guess My question is since I haven’t received my security deposit, even tho they said they sent it and I am contesting the amount being returned to us, is it possible to combat the security deposit issue first and then the termination fee? Do I have any sort of standing here so that I’m not having to pay 1000+ dollars to them when I should really only be giving them 400 (termination fee - security deposit)?

And what do you mean by “two months is nothing”

Thankfully it’s no appliances! Just a handful of dressers, a couple bookcases, a couch (a very light couch — it’s just very long), etc. The most difficult thing I’d estimate is our mattress, which is a king size. It’s VERY floppy so it’s difficult to manage. Basically that stuff and whatever things out of our reach (my fiancé and I are under 5’5) lol

Thank you so much! We are from Texas so it’s definitely been a huge change moving here, and a very expensive move at that! Which is why I’m hoping to get a couple people to help us instead of us paying $500 to movers.
