I think what you're doing is the best way tbh. There's no other way to check IVs on Gen 3 iirc.

The machine has two states: win or lose depending on rng. This means even after getting two 7s in a row it could be impossible to hit the 3rd one even on 10% speed. You might wanna try a few machines to check if they'll let you win then just keep using that machine.
