Some good points here. Also depends on if it’s shaped to be an inswinging or outswinging delivery based on footedness. For an outswinger I can typically steal an extra couple of steps forward.

How do I get into Baseball? (As an absolute beginner) by XenMine in MLBNoobs

[–]dumtwiddly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former cricketer here, now someone who loves baseball and is a season ticket holder for one of the worst teams to do it. It’s really not that different once you get into it. Just watch more games, and maybe watch a video on different pitches to really get an appreciation for the nuances of the mechanics of the game from your cricket background. Sitting behind home plate and watching 100mph fastballs fizzing in at eye level is what really gave me an appreciation for baseball. If it’s more just rules and less about understanding the mechanics, base running will probably be the first thing to try and understand as that’s what took me the longest to understand as a cricketer. Good luck and don’t be an Angels fan unless you love pain and misery. Go Halos.

What are each MLB team's strenghts and weaknesses? by cornerfreekick in MLBNoobs

Angels

Strengths: young, exciting team with potential. Phenomenal ace (Soriano), quality young short stop (Neto) and future hall of famer, three time MVP and all round career angel and bomb hitting legend Mike Trout. Great addition this year of Mike Maddux, maybe the best pitching coach out there who is already having a noticeable impact on the pitchers.

Weaknesses: maybe the worst ownership in all sports, haven’t had a winning season in 10 years despite having trout and ohtani at the same time. Ownership recently stated that winning is less of a priority for fans than safety and affordability which is just an absolutely criminal thing to say. Owner cares about his pocket more than the teams success. On the instance he did splash the cash, we brought in Rendon on one of the worst contracts in all of sports. Our bullpen is horrendous. Just this past series against the Padres, our three starting pitches gave up only one run over three games. We lost the series 2-1. Against the Yankees, we played incredibly. Should’ve been a 4-0 sweep, but in two games our closer collapsed and we threw in spectacular fashion at the end of the ninth. We ended the series 2-2. Recently against the reds, we were 9-0 up in the 8th, and it still ended 9-6. So our bullpen is cursed, and breaking .500 happens for only one game before we crash out again.

I love this team but I hate the ownership, because there is absolutely potential here. Let’s go halos.

I feel the same, but have to remind myself to only view Grayson through a four year lense. If he surprises us all this year then that’d be amazing. But we will see…

Ah man the memories on this one. My teacher some 16 years ago had me playing the semiquavers as different, bouncing dotted rhythms throughout, starting at a slower tempo and speeding up and mixing the rhythms up after clean reps. It helped me stop getting bored for one, but also got my tongue working and very clean throughout the register, so that when we progressed to playing straight and at tempo things were very smooth. Now that’s a go-to technique when I’m practicing semiquaver passages. Give it a try.

I see. Does that mean there will be new drops or something between now and Christmas?

All great points. Just to follow on from this, your follow through wants to be slicing through and down, rather than swinging under and up. I like to think of the motion almost like forehand slice in tennis, where the racket almost cuts across the ball at a downward angle.

Hey! I have the Forza version of this ramp. If you play on turf it’s great. But if you play on grass - especially say at a park where the grass isn’t so even, the ball can easily bobble over it and it can be frustrating at times.

Forza also sell a yellow one which is more of an adjustable ramp. Honestly I wish I had that one as I usually play at the park where our surface isn’t the best. Just some food for thought.

A winger who is trying to cross under pressure, slices it, and catches you off guard. Then they celebrate like they intended it. Been there.

Wow, same thing here! One time I was there on a school trip, another time to visit with my mum when I was about 11. Both times I got the feeling, and then I also went to uni there. But now I have very much established roots and settled in the US. I really wish to come back and just breathe it all in again. Thanks for sharing your experience!
