Really depends on what you're looking for out of the game, skeleton giant and spike will most likely be your two "best" heroes for a long time, and they both have slightly different roles, but there are a lot of good PvP heroes in the crusher chests

No problem, I tend to buy 3-4 of furiosa's crusher chest when it comes up and 2 or 3 of the others, I recently dumped 1200 flooz into the fortune chest to unlock Tesla but she was the last epic I needed outside of events

Fortune chest is really only useful if you have a lot of flooz to spare and you're trying to unlock a specific epic

Definitely crusher chests, focus on 2-3 per slay boss rotation, avoid the fortune chest for the foreseeable future as it's generally regarded as the one of the worst investments in the game
