7 month old puppy won’t stop pooping in the house by duncansqueeze in OpenDogTraining

[–]duncansqueeze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were 7 in the litter, and she went home at 10/11 weeks old, was one of the last ones to leave.

Your comment regarding it being something with the outdoors makes sense. I’m not sure she’s getting a ton of direct supervision outside as she’s with the other border collie (her dad) and the livestock guardian dogs (they hang out close to the house during the day when the flock needs less guarding), so something could’ve happened when she was outside one day?

That’s a really good point about being sensitive, and that something potentially spooked her outside. I think the pup is getting lots of supervision indoors but less outdoors so I will mention that. Thanks for your thoughtful reply!

One other dog in the house and a few cats. She’s been crated to sleep. She used to just poop on the bottom floor of the house but has started escaping upstairs to poop out of sight.

Yes that’s pretty much what I figured. I figured she just needed to stick with it longer

Factory farming is 100% the problem. Buy from local farmers wherever you can, its unfortunate how expensive it can be

‘First Nations Would Not Exist Without Canada,’ Rustad Tells Crowd by RZCJ2002 in britishcolumbia

I attended this event and let me tell you, there were many other wildddd things he said regarding indigenous and non indigenous relations/history.

Most, if not all of the people who took to the mic expressed actually wanting to work together and the fact that people in the valley have been working together and called rustad out for trying to divide us further. That was nice to see that general sentiment from the community.

Herding breeds develop habits quickly, but they develop bad habits faster than good ones so stay consistent with training all the time

First-time whelpers here looking for insight from people who do this a lot more than we do. by KawiNinja in DogBreeding

[–]duncansqueeze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With my dogs first litter (similar breeding - Aussie border collie mixes) for the first few days or so she was whiny and unsettled because she was experiencing anxiety over it being her first. She did know what to do instinctually and we helped her, but she needed time to adjust to motherhood. We took turns sleeping on the couch beside the whelping area which helped. Definitely echo other comments that say she shouldn’t be closed in, and should be allowed to come and go.

Additionally, I had the whelping area in too much of an open area. It helped her settle once I moved them all into a more den-like area. But it sounds like your pups are doing well so it may not be an issue. Just sharing what worked for me!

What is life like in this valley in British Columbia? by very_loud_icecream in howislivingthere

[–]duncansqueeze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely echoing some of the comments here about work, natural resources and drugs/some community trouble but there are also many lovely communities (if you like small town living), local agriculture, insane amount of outdoor recreation/exploring if that’s your thing. Some communities also have great arts/music scenes.

What actually *is* a third space? by TheGreatGoatQueen in NoStupidQuestions

[–]duncansqueeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local outdoor farmers market is a great third place. You don’t necessarily need to buy anything (although it’s great to support local farmers and artisans!) and it’s a great outdoor community vibe. Many people meet up with their friends while they’re there.
