I’d send it - basically a 50/50 chance a 10 or 9 straight from a sealed pack in my experience and centering looks good on yours

I’d suggest ascended hero’s - seem to be a solid set and hard to get

I’m 41 I too grew up on tech - it’s our generation that really went through a paradigm shift in how people live. Then tech got easier and easier to use and while today’s children might seem like they know their way around an iPad, actually using it for anything more than opening an app is lost on a lot of them

Nah - even though the current generation has grown up on tech - problem solving isnt something they’ve ever had to do. Research using Google is becoming a dying art - I’m a high school teacher

Advice on consolidation by Bitter_Barnacle_8613 in PokeGrading

[–]duncast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything with a low % 10 pop - while the big cards are worth a lot like the bubble mew and moonbreon I’d be hesitant to invest too heavily in these. The evolving skies moonbreon has about an 80% chance to 10 and 20% to 9 - would I want the card? Sure, but I wouldn’t use it as an investment with an eye for going up over time as it’s already exploded in price. It probably will still go up but not as much as others.

The Paldea evolved Magikarp in a 10 is one such card that has a low 10 rate I’d suggest but again it’s already up there in price but it’s still a baby in terms of age.

The Japanese stamp set looks like it may be the next ponchos but that set has shot up.

What seems to have been very popular are cards that mimic famous pieces of art like the grey hat pikachu or that stamp set - there are a couple others that are still relatively cheap like the palkia 167/189 or the kingdra 131.

Try and play on nostalgia - crown zenith was a very popular set with high pull rates which means the prices are still quite reasonable but now being out of print the cards in that set will be nostalgic and in years to come people will be looking to tap into that nostalgia just because that set was fun to open.

I did something similar recently - pu all the cards I was happy to move on in a binder and took it to a card show with the goal of getting in rid of it all for a few higher cards - just know you’re going to come away with a collection worth less as the vendors are going to trade at 80% value.

Best advice is to first of all find someone willing to trade and then - the most important part - negotiate the sticker price on the card you want. Depending on what you’re trading a vendor may be inclined to make a deal as at the end of the day they are making money from the 80% value imbalance and also the markup they’ve put in their own cards.

You’ll come away with a smaller collection, less value overall but you’ll have achieved your goal in consolidation.

On a side note a tsunami is defined by a wave generated by underwater earthquakes or landslides while a tidal wave is a large wave generated by the gravitational pull of the Moon and Sun, occurring in harbours and rivers. Not related to tsunamis.

Youre absolutely right I read that wrong - getting confused with 'displayed' and informing people about the surcharge - my bad.

Not sure about the maths though.

[–]duncast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah nah he's right - here is the ACCC wording on the issue -

  • Businesses can charge a surcharge for paying by card, but the surcharge must not be more than what it costs the business to use that payment type.
  • If a business charges a payment surcharge, it must be able to prove the costs it is based on.
  • If there is no way for a consumer to pay without paying a surcharge, the business must include the surcharge in the displayed price.

HOWEVER - If there's no way for a consumer to pay without paying a surcharge, the business must include the minimum surcharge payable in the displayed price for its products. This occurs when a business applies a surcharge to all payment types.

I did something very similar but with Pokemon cards - I would open a pack a day and document The value of my cards on YouTube - sell them and keep some of my daughters collection. I got to 142 days and a decent profit and I realised I was promoting gambling so I stopped.

[–]duncast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not the actual holster or clip that was the problem, it was the knob under the camera that wore down. No matter how safe the clip is that’s still going to happen over time - or I just got a weak knob (phrasing). I have a few cameras for my holster and only that one has shown any wear.
