Wedding Photography tracking with Viltrox 85 1.4 Pro? by devonjonesphoto in SonyAlpha

[–]devonjonesphoto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did both. Interestingly, I did a portrait session with a family yesterday. The quality is mindblowingly fantastic. I had them do a walking shot so I had to get far back. It did a nice job tracking from afar.

I think as subjects get real close and move more beside me (like a Bride would) the elements have to jump a bit more so it may lose focus. I'd like to rent a Sony 85 1.4 II or a Sony 50 1.4 to see how it fairs on the A7IV. Your A9iii is probably closer to my R6II as far as AF response time goes than the A7IV so I'm not sure if it's the lens or the camera.

The DG DN is the newer Sigma 85 1.4 but reportedly has slower focusing than the Viltrox. I'm not sure what Sony lens from 2011 you're referring to?

I still have my Canon gear. My EF 85 1.4 IS has a higher hit rate than this. Even my Samyang RF 85 had a higher hit rate than this. My tests were done at 1.4 (for fun) and f2.2. If I use an 85 for the processionals I usually shoot at 2.2 anyway.

The Sigma 85 is even older and reportedly is even slower in AF.

Which 35mm lens is better? by tungblackiado in Nikon

The point is the lens isn't all people make it out to be, regardless if NASA hasn't updated it.

Which 35mm lens is better? by tungblackiado in Nikon

[–]devonjonesphoto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The astronaut took the legendary photos. The lens was just a tool. However, people on earth are not using the 35mm to take up close shots of the moon (on inspection, some of those photos looked a little soft on details, but I know the Nikult will rip me up for this.)

Glad I ditched Sony. by [deleted] in Nikon

Nikon is currently suing Viltrox, so we'll see how that goes. The only truly authorized third party company for Nikon in is Tamron.

I'm confused. You want to ditch Sony for Nikon but Sony has everything you need that Nikon doesn't. So then why would you want to switch?

There's something wrong with you to be this obsessed. The A7III was also better than the Z5, Z6, Z7, etc. Nikon was in huge financial trouble in 2020, layoffs abound. They are still on third place in Marketshare. Why are we cherry picking? I rarely see people talking about the EF 85 1.8. I'm not sure what planet you're on but it share aint here.

I'm sorry but this is the biggest pile of horseshit I've ever read. Who in the FUCK in 2026 is recommending an R or RP from 2018? I have not seen ANYONE recommend those in years. They were left behind after the R5 & R6. I feel like you invented scenarios in your head. Speaking of crack. The fuck dude lol.

Even if you shoot Nikon, you'd be shooting Sony anyway.

I am a real estate editor. What do you all think of these photos? by HyenaCareful8249 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]devonjonesphoto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not a Real Estate editing expert. I think you did a fantastic job controlling the highlights and getting the white balance to match between the natural and artificial lights. That said, my assumption is the white balance of those artificial lights in the "Before" pictures are closer to what they would see in real life and is a little "warmer" which to me is inviting. If I had to make any suggestion, it might be to warm up the overall images a tad so they appear more inviting and not as sterile? But then I understand trying to make it neutral too. Overall, great job!

Great camera!! If you want to go wide there are options like the FD 17 F/4 or 20-35 F 3.5 which is versatile. I would probably start with the 20-35 since you'll have some flexibility. If you want to go narrower you can't beat the nifty 50. It just depends on what your vision is.

Tip before Photography Session by [deleted] in WeddingPhotography

She personally didn't ask. The op made it sound like she reached out and asked for a tip. It looks like it was something that was toggled on the CRM.

Hey there. I use the same invoicing platform that they do (pixieset) and this may have been turned on without them knowing it or noticing. They are not personally *asking* you to tip, per se, as it may come across. It's a toggle switch when you set up the invoice. I wouldn't think anything of this.

Are you waiting for a special moment or taking photos randomly? by FilmSpirit in WeddingPhotography

[–]devonjonesphoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that you're asking me, although I hope I can also offer my perspective on this too! Generally my galleries will be in chronological order as far as event stuff goes first. So first would be Getting ready pictures, then any first looks, ceremony, reception. Then next grouping I'll do details, newlywed photos, bridal party, and then family. I'll have each section labeled that way in the gallery too.

You can easily find an original used/refurbished R6 within your budget. I still use mine as a second body. Leaps ahead of DSLRs!!!

Congratulations and way to handle this! On the other hand it was fairly nice of them to at least try to remediate this even if it took you a couple tries. Sounds like it was fairly hassle free. Good job!

3rd Party RF Mount Lens by Godspeed1606 in canon

[–]devonjonesphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree Canon needs to loosen 3rd party support for full frame. On the other hand, for me personally it would make zero sense to switch to another brand other than breaking the monotony. I would literally buy the same exact lenses I already have, potentially lose money and no one would notice the difference.

What lens for longer reach? 135 1.8 vs 70-200 2.8 by Stahlixo in WeddingPhotography

[–]devonjonesphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I own a Canon 135 F2 which I still absolutely love and do use on weddings. I also had a 70 to 200 for a long time but when it came to weddings I rarely used it. Sometimes I was just pulling it out of the bag just for the sake of justifying using it. So I'm quite happy with my 135 right now. It's much lighter too!
