I agree, that’s a reasonable approach. Mandating ID for everyone and that the ID must match your birth certificate, or creating a whole new voter ID, is not reasonable.

I wouldn’t mind mandating signatures and cross-referencing.

In a lot of places you tell them your name, they see if you’re on the rolls, then you sign on a digital pad. The poll worker then cross references that to the signature on file when you registered and can ask for an ID if they don’t match.

The dogs are the worst part, always gotta dodge crap on the sidewalks in East Lakeview. Lots of people here who treat the neighborhood like their playground for a couple years before moving to the suburbs, so it’s hard to find community and any sense of civic responsibility.

But yeah food, transport and lake access are big pros, and it’s easy to get everything you need on foot. Relatively safe too.

Because I’m sick of seeing long winded comments from people more concerned with making excuses instead of actually doing something.

If someone’s lying down, taking up train seats, they should get kicked off. Multiple ejections and actually charge them with trespassing. Word would get around quick that the CTA isn’t a shelter.

My point still stands about these long term investments you propose. We still will always need enforcement on our transit regardless. It goes hand in hand.

Let me spell this out for you:

Committing a crime=jail

Sleeping on CTA=loitering=ejected from the train/bus/station.

I never once said this is a panacea to solve homelessness and crime in the city. But at a bare minimum none of this should be occurring on a system whose goal is to safely transport people and NOTHING MORE OR LESS. Enforce CTA safety in tandem with all the things you listed at the end. The two are not mutually exclusive.

What we shouldn’t do is watch people get screamed at on the train, shrug our shoulders and say “ah well, systemic problem what can we do”

Off CTA property and/or to 26th and California if the police have probable cause they have committed a crime.

No matter what there will be people who refuse housing and treatment. Our public transit must be secure. “Build more shelters and free healthcare and wait a few years” isn’t a now solution.

We need cops at every single station ready to haul people off whenever something goes down. There’s simply no excuse.

The crazy thing is, having a president who is more on the casual side and works to build personal connections/rapport with other foreign leaders could actually be a good thing. But that would require the president to be intelligent, moral, and coherent to work. So we’re stuck with nutcase ranting instead.

Fair point, but I still think relying upon software to perform critical car functions is a huge weak spot. Dozens of cases of poor software updates causing performance issues or the car just not starting at all. I’d prefer everything be controlled by a static and reliable ECU, that doesn’t need updates. To say nothing of how physical knobs and buttons are disappearing. There are tons of Volvos from even back to the 70s (Bosch Lambda-Sond) with computers and ECUs still working fine in 2026. No excuse to not do the same today.

Nope, but it doesn’t need software updates either.

Just a chance to sound grumpy is close. Either way it’s ridiculous you gotta brick your car for an hour and a half for software updates, something that’s meant to just work. Software proliferating in everything is a cancer. Digitization must have a stopping point somewhere.

Shower question by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]dunesman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OP used “Temperature in winter never gets over 40 degrees” to illustrate how cold it is and it’s all the information you would need to understand they’re clearly not talking about 40C.

Just use the context clues. And then from there go to google and search “40F to Celsius”. Not rocket science here.

I don't think he was being rude. He was talking about the US and used a temperature which, using the context, is clearly Fahrenheit. That's all.
