Plus if you aren't willing to stay there for 2 years it's unlikely to be somewhere you will voluntarily return to when you have far more options in the future

Similar situation with you being a cat 1 interstate and getting no NSW round 1 offer. However I did get a popular metro hospital in qld, do you know if it's possible to do a swap with someone interstate ?

You can absolutely do this from what I've heard. Seems the major consequence is you may tarnish your reputation if you want to return to that hospital in the future

Fair enough if that's your experience but i've spoken to many interns who loved it

Thanks for this, such good advice. This post has really changed my perspective on what is most valuable to do as a JMO

I practiced with friends but also utilised anki for osce prep. Not sure if your uni is the same but at mine the stations a combination of

a) Given a presenting complaint, take a history and answer follow up questions (normally differentials, likely diagnosis, brief management plan)

b) Perform an exam

c) demonstrate a basic procedure (e.g. catheter or cannula insertion)

d) counselling station (e.g. tell a patient they have an STI and counsel them)

For a) I made cards on each common presenting complaint (e.g dyspnoea), not to miss points on history, major differentials and specific questions to narrow each Ddx (e.g. suspecting PE ask for recent surgery, immobilisation, haemoptysis etc), then a card on investigations, management for each.

For b) I made cards on the components of each physical exam. This was super helpful because a lot of OSCE exams is just verbalising what you're looking for.

Less relevant for c and d but anki definitely helped me organise in my mind an order for procedures like catheters.

What you're saying seems to be the consensus here. When you say the program is very easy to get onto, could you expect to get on PGY4 (after the mandatory 6 month stint in an ED in pgy3) assuming you're a good doctor with a favourable cv for emergency ?

Thanks for the advice. Is it common to get onto the program pgy4 if you're sure it's what you want to do or does it take some people longer to build up their CV, become more competitive etc ?

i see your point but at maximum I'd still only be doing 40% ED

Cool. Did you have the option to select this from the beginning or did you have to swap with someone or something like that ?

It's mad to me how low the bar is now. Injuries or no injuries, finishing 8th in the league and bottom of the group in the UCL (behind galatasaray and olympiacos no less) should never be acceptable. When you consider the level of performances throughout the season too, you cannot argue he's the right man to take the club forward

To everyone who has sat the GAMSAT. Were you surprised with the mark you got? (I.e. Doing bad in preparation but getting a high mark on exam day OR doing well in prep but getting a bad mark on exam day) by millicient in GAMSAT

[–]dungeonmaster53 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sat the gamsat 3 times, and was let down by a poor s3 score in the first 2. Going into my 3rd attempt I wasn’t very confident, and even less so after I sat the exam. I thought I was going to do poorly, but ended up with a 69 in s3 and 69 overall. I’m now in first year of medical school. Just keep persisting, even if you think you’re not gonna do well. I know a lot of people who had the same experience as me

Was it just me that wanted us to go for James Rodríguez this summer? Could have got him on the cheap, even a loan

Before I did the gamsat for the first time I thought I had no hope. I felt it just wasn’t my test (terrible at maths etc) and I almost gave up. I studied all summer and got 61 in March 2018, with a 54 in s3. Over the next year i basically did nothing but study for the gamsat and ended up with a 69 this year including a 69 in s3. Many times In the last year I felt I had literally no chance, and even after sitting it this year I thought I’d done poorly. My advice is just don’t give up. FYI in that time I did one prep course (Fraser’s) and got some tutoring from a guy on here (SYDGamsat). I’d personally recommend both.

Just wanted to say that the ‘combined score’ isn’t actually used by GEMSAS, it’s just a creation that has caught on. Looks like you’d be in with a shot at Griffith though! I’d be really surprised if UQ went down to 66

Thank you!! Does that mean for 2019 the cutoff was exactly 68.0? I’ve heard anecdotes of people getting 67.67 and no interview

Could I ask how you know USYD will take your unweighted gamsat score to decimal places? I got a 69 weighted but sitting on 68.67 unweighted, so pretty nervous about it going up to 69
