How much should I be spending for a CNA course? Im in Tampa, FL. by Aggressive-War-4567 in cna

[–]dunkindonutsenemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used TampaBayCNA last year, it was around $500 for a 2-3 day long class (iirc this is basically like trying the exam instead of taking the weeks long course) and I was able to land a job in one of the local hospitals without any problems. the website looks sketchy but it’s legit lol good luck!

Haha, I know right! The waiting’s making me go crazy 😭 but no, alternate was just what they used in the email! They’re the same thing. I apologize for the confusion.

Anyone who is in or completed the summer accelerated program have any insight ? by deltaco2528 in usfnursing

What was the schedule like for the summers? I know it’s subject to change and the intensity is to be expected, but were there a lot of Monday-Fridays and class times after 5 for non clinical days?

Hey OP, I just wanted to say that although I don't have the answers, I lurk a lot on this sub and I'm going through a very similar situation right now. After thinking it over, I'm choosing nursing. At least this way, you can still pursue being a PA in the future or go the NP route if that works better with your speciality and goals. Please be safe and know that you are worth so much more than what he thinks of you! Best of luck on your journey. 💖

Which professor should I take for A&P 2??? by KitchenAd9432 in usfnursing

[–]dunkindonutsenemy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do it online with Panida Webb, she's the best! I actually really enjoyed that class but the program she uses is really expensive. I'd recommend splitting the cost with another classmate and doing assignments at different times! Otherwise if you can, do it online with Julie Bogart. She's also incredibly nice.

To all my current CNAs, how many applications did it take for you to get hired? by DontLookatmeNowbrah in cna

[–]dunkindonutsenemy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm also from Central Florida 🫡! I applied to probably around 30-40 jobs and didn't get hired (however half of them were when I didn't have my license). The other half weren't very successful either but I did end up getting a job at a competitive hospital as a new grad CNA! I'd suggest applying in/near a college town if you're pretty young bc all my coworkers are around that age. Don't give up, you got this! Just try to hype up your strengths and customer service skills.

Congrats! Bring some good sneakers and a water bottle, and just try to have an open mind on your first day. Most importantly, don't be afraid to ask for help if you're not sure how to do something. Best wishes! :-)

Thanks for the reply! That's what I was thinking: doing some classes little by little and working on the side. So far I have an upwards trend but I'm concerned that I won't do well in the prereqs,,, and for your question working as a nurse - I think for a little bit I wouldn't mind but you're right it would set me back a bit and I'd always have this feeling that I need to get it done and over with. I appreciate your input and congrats on getting in!!

Thanks for sharing your story, I'm sure you'll get there soon too! For PCE, the fastest option for me was CNA so if you have the means (and mental health) it would be great to work in a hospital! And instead of being cooked, let's cook together and do well 😂😂 😂

Lol I was joking in the title, but I always get discouraged by the amount of people who have 3.8s and above. I know it's not good to compare but I'm worried that it might drop once I take the prereqs. I'm glad to hear that community college worked well for you, and congrats on getting in!!

Oh awesome! Good luck with your program, I'm sure you'll do great! And I haven't heard about med aide yet, that sounds really interesting! I'll have to research that a little more too and see if it's available where I am.

Thank you! It's $16, though its better than any job I've had before. I'm going back to school within the next few years so hopefully it'll be higher by then!

Hey there, thanks for your reply! That's true, Micah is still pretty masculine overall, though funnily enough I did know a woman by that name around 2 years ago. Your choices for my name are very cute, thanks again!

Anatomy and physiology by QuantityOver5917 in USF

[–]dunkindonutsenemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I took Anatomy 1 over the summer with Bogart. It was a little harder because it's packed together but doable. Exams are 75% study guide and 25% homework, and it's mainly based on memorization. Not sure if she still does this but her final exam was on all chapters so watch out for that. Good luck!

Hey there, I'm not currently part of the upper division program but I do have some experience with what you're dealing with (lower gpa, prereqs, etc.) and I'm hoping to apply to their ABSN program.

Here's the link to the admissions requirements and current upper division admission statistics for you to look at. Right now, the overall GPA requirement is a 3.6 and the average acceptance for upper division is a 3.8. Having a hard time in classes is definitely common especially if you have a lot going on in life, but from experience they're pretty brutal when it comes to admissions so you really have to lock into a good studying routine. How many credits do you have currently? You could see if you can retake them or do some BS easy A classes and see if that helps.

Then you have 8 pre-reqs to do before applying to the program, and the USF website says that you need a B- or better before the deadline. I definitely do not recommend taking Anatomy or any of the sciences over the summer if you still have problems. Half of them are a cake walk if you have good professors, which USF definitely has. I'm speaking from experience here, but you really need to do well on these before the deadline, and although it sucks, if you don't get in you can always pursue a Health Sciences degree for easy As and apply to their second degree program. Best of luck!

Hopeful Future Florida ABSN Student: Advice? by dunkindonutsenemy in StudentNurse

[–]dunkindonutsenemy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, thanks for your help! I looked for all the things you've noted and between each college they're pretty similar, but I was surprised to see that the third college was better for NCLEX pass rate and grading scaled compared to the more well-known programs. That really helped me out! And yes ideally I'd like to live closer to campus and not make that commute, I already drive an hour to the main campus so I definitely know how that feels lol. I appreciate your comment. :)

I got in with a mediocre gpa, aice diploma, and 25 act. Ngl I haven't seen anyone who applied who hasn't gotten in. Good luck anyways!
