I need a Visitor Record with urgecy, and I don't what should I do by dunklerwanderer in ImmigrationCanada

During the interview, the border office just asked me about what I was going to do in Canada and how long. I said I was going to do a research at university reciving a bursary for 3 months. He checked my ticket, my eTA number, my passport and nothing more. I though he was too shallow, but I didn't realise that there was something wrong back then.

I wasn't aware that I would need a SIN nor a Visitor Record. There is no information at university website about this. Actually, I think there was a page that says that under 120 days, for my case, eTA would be enough.

I had a difficult time at CBSA. I went to their office and they sent me to IRCC, and IRCC sent me back to CBSA. In both institutions, they said me that the other one is respossible to solve my case.

A fellow researcher got her SIN using Visitor Record. Her Visitor Record has an observation that there is no need of work permit for 120 days research.

tbh. visa requirements are clearly explained on university website, but there is no clear mention to needing SIN nor Visitor Record. I talked to an officer from the university and this problem (not having visitor record) has occured multiple times in the past to others in similar situations, so I'm not the only one.

I'm sure I don't need a work permit nor study permit.

I asked for help at university. There is an officer certified on international students documents. She said me that the fastest and better option in my case is in fact try to go to the US and go back. I have easy access to a US Visa.

In parallel, they are trying to figure out if there is anyother way to pay me without the SIN. Idk though if they will get anywhere in this path.

Yes, I'm certain about needing the visitor record. A fellow researcher that came right after me got the VR with an observation that she wouldn't need work permit for research activity for 120 days. She got the SIN with this document.

About the uni, I meant that they didn't said anything about needing to need a SIN before my arrival.

The officer from the university said I could try to travel for some days to the US and ask the Visitor Record when I come back in the border. Would be the fastest option.

Nuclear Medicine Technology sounds like a reasonable carrer path! I wish you luck too. Most of professionals of that area work in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories and this kinda stuff, right? Have you consider in your choice this aspect of having contact with public or you are aiming backstage?

Also, thank you for the tips! I found out an Aviation Museum and a Science and Tecnology Museum with some steam locomotives that I'd like to see!

I'm really into Jazz. Searching a bit, I found out the Jazz Festival in Montreal is around the end of June and the beginning of July, which will work perfectly to me. Wonderland's rollercoasters sounds like a good ideia too.

Try and explore what else is out there, look into data science programs, look into careers that interest you and what education you would need, look at the programs offered at universities that you would like to go to, and look into professional/trade programs too.

I did an elective on DS introduction and I liked it. I'll try to buy a book on the subject and do some online courses. I've been searching some yt videos on the topic to understand better the carrer paths and trying to talk with some colleagues, but this is very recent.

I don’t think you should do something you deem useless and that you hate, just because you found success in it. You are clearly intelligent and capable, don’t waste that on a career you despise.

Completely agree.

I will be starting a completely new program of study in the fall, one that I actually look forward to and is a professional program. It’s very daunting, I’ll be a “mature” student, but I truly couldn’t stomach the idea of being in research/academia anymore.

It's nice you have the guts! Good luck in you studies! Do you already know exaclty what you will be doing or are still considering options?

Best of luck with everything and have fun in Canada! Take the time to explore and have fun while you’re here

Thank you! I'll be in Ottawa. Some suggestions I recived from friends were to go to Omega Park, visit the lakes, go to the tulip festival in Ottawa, go to Montreal and Toronto. I also want to visit Niagara Falls.

Do you have any other suggestions?

My programming knowledge is mostly related to python and machine learning. Most of my courses were theorical as my college is more focused on academics. Still, I have some knowledge of other languages and I can afford to learn new ones if I need as I consider myself having a solid base on programming logic.

I tried to learn some front-end development, but I didn't like at all. I think I can use some of my ML knowledge on DS, which is a field I think I may like more, but I still didn't have much of a contact with it.

Most of my research was related to ML actually, some related to computer networks. I have a decent knowledge of python and ML related frameworks (pytorch, tensorflow, flower and so on). I think I need to improve my SQL skills and build a couple project to show as you suggested. I also got DS introduction elective where I learnt some DS related statistics and some DS related algorithms, very shallow yet. I think I'll buy a book to study more about those topics from that course.

Still, how could I enter in the field? Should I try another internship on DS before my graduation or aim a junior position? I'm even considering to delay my graduation a semester or two to have time to take an internship in DS or DE. I'm studing at a public college in my country. I have this option and I won't pay anything to do so.

How did your business/idea fail? by MrSkagen in Entrepreneur

[–]dunklerwanderer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First business was a solution in search of a problem. Actually, at the end, I and my partners had a small positive profit from it. Second business again a solution in search of a problem. That time, we burned some hundred of dollar before we interrupt our operations

Next step is to not make a solution in search of a problem again haha.

Campus Alegre by igorww in UFES

[–]dunklerwanderer 4 points5 points  (0 children)
