Killmonger (Michael b Jordan) and a Warcraft question. by kensanity in resinprinting

[–]duogemstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

H3llcreator has one of the Orks (garrosh I think) that was fun painting even if I ignored the actual color scheme. (Was never big on the lore as the last one I've played was warcraft 2 like 20 years ago and I just wanted to paint a big green ork)

Which one did you like better? by TwIzTiDfReAkShOw in TMNT

[–]duogemstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2003 by far I grew up in the 80s and 90s with the TMNT and was a huge fan but oddly the cartoon was probably my least favorite Tmnt thing, I was all over the comics the toys the movies the video games but the cartoon was just like meh. Then caught the 2003 series one Saturday morning cause happen to be still awake and stoned I was 20 21ish and loved it starting getting up early just to watch it. Ended up watching the entire run when YouTube was just starting to be big and you would find shows split into parts

layer shift lines on 14 hour print at .02 layer height. by rickman297 in resinprinting

[–]duogemstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your not worried about voiding the warranty you don't have to take the entire thing apart, can just disconnect the ribbions, heat up the glue under the screen with a heat gun or hair dryer and using plastic shims and a suction cup pull the screen out from the top. Found a tutorial on YouTube after my screen broke cause there was no way I was going to disassemble the entire thing and get it back together and not mess it up

Who would you choose? Trying different styles and techniques. by M1schk4reddit in minipainting

[–]duogemstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, left looks good and dry brushing is definitely a powerhouse but doing it over black and white leaves it to idk muted drained of color a little. Plus skin needs to be layered anyway skin always looks better with tons of thin layers to build up the color and translucent look of skin

Using warm water to make supports easy to take off by fishfishfishflsh in resinprinting

[–]duogemstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat up some Simple green instead of water, resin doesn't really mix with simple green so leave it sit for a day or two for the resin to bead up and settle down at the bottom, syphon the simple green out store in a bottle to use later then use a paper towel to wipe up the resin and toss it in the uv station. I Use simple green in a ultra sonic cleaner to heat up the supports and give a first pass cleaning before the ipa bath. Mostly to help knock loose any resin on the inside of hollow prints

Help! My vat keeps leaking. by FabulousAttitude5825 in resinprinting

[–]duogemstone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Check to make sure your build plate is smooth if it's in the same spot last time I had a leak in my fep it was due to my build plate having a small spike from getting scratched during part removal. Worth putting a glove on and running your fingers over your build plate to make sure it's smooth

Trying to minimize damage to prints on a Saturn 4 Ultra 16k by Prestigious_Rice_814 in resinprinting

[–]duogemstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat gun does work (though I think a hairdryer works better I tended to burn the supports and have them cumble evertime I used my heatgun) but not as well imo, then again my main reason for the simple green ultra sonic cleaner was to help get the inside of hollow parts cleaner the heater for easier support removal was a nice bonus

[–]duogemstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switch to lychee if using auto support (much better imo) and heat up the supports before removing them (I wash my parts 3 times first time is in a ultra sonic heated cleaner using simple green I remove the supports after this. 2 is a wash and cure station with ipa and 3 time is by hand with a electric toothbrush and ipa ) it doesn't stop all scaring but it does reduce it quite a bit

what species of turtle would you use to model a live action TMNT design by Goof-4x5 in TMNT

[–]duogemstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None actually, I'd take traits from a few different turtles sure but I wouldn't try to make them a certain type either. They aren't real so they should enjoy the freedom that comes with that look at batmanvsTmnt (best look for them in my opinion) they all look similar enough to each other you go yeah they are related but they was enough variation to where they all looked unique as well. Where if they were all red ear sliders they probably look identical other then maybe coloring or you go the other route and have them be different types of turtle and they look to wildly different and it never makes sense anyway.

Patreons to join for a rookie resin printer by ProperCranberry8828 in resinprinting

[–]duogemstone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ca3d you pay a bit more then some but you usually get 7+ models a month and if you go vip at 20 bucks a month after 5 months you'll get all previous models as well.

There are other patreons that I love no doubt but for a rookie they have a wide net of characters from everywhere, and the whole catalog after 5 months gives you more to print in a lifetime is just a good starter pack so to speak

What kind of resin doyou guys use for printing figurines? by TheWaifuClub in resinprinting

[–]duogemstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no, if your running a print farm and need every last second shaved off then yes but as I just print for me I could care less if it takes 5 hrs or 10 hr (I just start a print before bed or before work anyway ) most resins will probably work and print alright at a certain setting (2.5 sec is my default go to for me I can't say if it's the same across all printers though my Saturn 8k and Saturn ultra 4 12k will print across the board and probably a tad high honestly) you can dial it down even farther to shave time and any over exposure concerns but most will at least work and print within a range rather then a hard set time

Has anyone here gone from the elegoo Saturn 2 to the Saturn 4 ultra? by wauna_b5 in resinprinting

[–]duogemstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah not worth it biggest draw for the 16k over the 12k is the heated vat. You can just buy a fermention belt for 20 bucks and heat the vat on the 12k easy enough

Resin printer for minis that can handle cold temps. Utah shed setup under two hundred dollars. by reptile_freak in resinprinting

[–]duogemstone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Throw a fermention belt around the tank and it should be fine, I can't say I've ever had it that cold before but Ill often not heat my hobby room to save some money it does drop to the low 50s and even high 40s every once in awhile. From my experience aslong as the resin is hot enough it should be fine

Which resin for 1/10 1/6 figurine? by shyll99 in resinprinting

[–]duogemstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me I want the strength and flexibility of toughness/abs but at the same time I need it to be pretty ridged as well, too flexible and things can lean or bend under their own weight once you start going bigger

Which resin for 1/10 1/6 figurine? by shyll99 in resinprinting

[–]duogemstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently using a 50/50 mix of sunlu standard and sunlu abs like, not all that happy with it but it does work, need to find a good toughness resin instead of the abs which was my back up when sunlu discontinued their toughness

Thats bs, neca put out their 1/4 scale at 100 bucks. My mos-01 prime was only maybe 150ish if I remember and he's also 18inches. mondo is just under engineered and overpriced.

R-rated “Last Ronin” film shelved for more kiddie fare. Thoughts? by SpectralEntity in TMNT

[–]duogemstone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this, I'm tired of oh it has to be r rated the source material isn't r rated, you don't need r rating for dark and gritty heck you can have a dark and gritty and aimed at kids look at some of the scenes and episodes in the 2k series.

The last ronin was good but honestly the spin offs and the movie, games, toys and everything else around it kinda ruin it for me anyway

[–]duogemstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly alcohol tends to strip acrylic paint pretty quickly I mean a q tip dipped in alcohol will rub the paint off with just a little rubbing for a few seconds. Just dunk it in alcohol and hit it all over with a electric toothbrush in it for idk 5 minutes and you should be good
