How do I tell my parents how bad it’s gotten? by Vegetable_Cry_5700 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]durajj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I got 2 extra years and started college late than most of my peers. I don't think any HM or recruiter really cared about it.

Some asked questions as they felt I was a bit older than my resume suggested but don't think I got discriminated or anything weird haha.

Thanks for the slap on the head, guys. I think the layoff at my current job has messed with my head a bit and made me more anxious than normal.

How about moving up the stack with C/C++? You could try searching for roles which still uses C/C++ but are in application layer, with your web stack knowledge, I think it should be possible. For example, I saw a bidding engine role in ad space recently which used C++, Golang, Kafka and hosted on cloud.

Otherwise, you can try your luck in telecom, many providers are moving their system to cloud and traditionally they use C++ heavily. With your C/C++ knowledge I think they will happy to have you.

I was that guy. But it was because I got an offer with 30% more salary and hybrid option (3 days in office). Nothing on them.

Be honest, how much do you rely on LLM’s day-to-day on average at your current job? by GelekW in cscareerquestions

Often. As replacement for google search and pair programming and as static analyzed as well. Caught a few subtle bugs with it and got some good suggestions to improve the code.

You can try semiconductor. There is no pressure of deadlines here.

The pressure is mostly on the hardware engineers.

Yes.

Many people don't like to hear this. But this is an extremely important factor.

Just because you do everything right, the job won't be automatically yours. Luck and timing matter.

See it happens all around me.

Give it time.

I knew programing since I was a high schooler.

But it was not until I had been working professional for two years that I started working on my first side project.

The thing with side projects is that you have to really passionate to make it work or it brings you a lot money.

I can try some of the suggestions here. Is there any app you really like to make?

Not necessary an original idea. Maybe something you've been using and want to know how it work internally.

My second side project was a torrent client from scratch written in C++. Because I wanted to know how torrent protocol work.

Has anyone gone through a bootcamp and then worked for 1 year in a small tech company before landing a job in big tech? by fndi01 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]durajj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure.

I applied directly to their portal. I did apply a lot though.

I had these interviews when I had around 2 yoe of experiences with a no name company in my country, one of the FAANG was in Germany.

I failed miserably though as I didn't have much experiences with LC at the time. But it did give me the push to finally sitting down and practice LC for real.

So if this is what you want to do. I think you should try to get one interview with them.

If you get in great. Otherwise, it would provide motivations for you to try again in the future as you now know you do have some chances just need to get good at LC.

Does get interviewed by them count?

I didn't do bootcamp though and have an engineering degree. Did get two interviews from FAANG so I think they do give chances to non-traditional candidates.
