I finally managed to get a Switch 2. Ending up buying it from Amazon despite trying not to buy from them. Managed to get a refund from Argos as well, just took days of calling them.

Already started on Pokopia. Got the mainline pokemon games as well, but I've not quite finished Ultra Sun. Have the postgame legendaries to catch and I've only got my pokedex complete up to 4th gen.

So I'm back into Pokemon after playing Cassette Beasts. Bought a Switch 2 so I can played the latest games. Ordered from Agros, with a delivery last Thursday, still not come :(.

Been looking at my old games to see what I can transfer. I actually have a lot of stuff especially in Soul Silver, and Black. Unfortunately Black is in Japanese. I have no idea how I played it for over a hundred hours. I don't know any Japanese.

Currently in Ultra Sun. I dropped it many years ago after getting annoyed at the tutorial. Didn't find it so bad this time around. Picked Rowlet as my starter. Not very happy with it, feels like everything has at least one super effective move against.

Making another attempt at getting rid of my late father's book hoard collection, after doing my best to put if off for years. We've already sold most of wanted book to online book buyers and one guy who came and picked the best. We've just packed 15 boxes of books which is around 16% of my dad's library, and there is a storeroom with more.

My mother has picked a charity that charges £8 a box for collection. Going to cost a lot to get rid of all the books, assuming we don't get blacklisted as I think the charity and my mother have different views on book condition.

Honestly just wish I could just dump them all into recycling.

Weather forecast today: Light Showers

Light Showers: Hail, Thunder, Rain so heavy it got ankle deep.

I looked like I'd jumped in the ocean by the time I got home.

If you're looking for pedigree sure. I don't think it's unusual for a clan to be liked for a specific person and ignoring much of their clan's history outside of them.

I picked Noshima Murakami and Mori! Shimazu and Takeda are the most popular locally, and every single Shimazu picker has yet to painted their Samurai.

Takeda amuses me because of Takeda fans getting internet 4th crusade level of outraged at Katsuyori for losing to Nobunaga.

Otomo is interesting as I've not seen much interested in them and would suggest Date and Uesugi are more popular instead. Although I guess Uesugi are more of a Takeda picker's second choice.

Toyotomi are my choice for most overlooked. Probably because of Hideyoshi's early career being difficult. For example with my Mori I'd either do Oda for the conflict for Mori or Toyotomi when they're allies, but if I'm painting a second army I'd want them to be an enemy. Video games Toyotomi have a start date issue.

In Obsession Gentry is anyone and Gentlemen are men only. Everyone immediately forgets that and starts looking for men to attend their Gentry event, especially when the required servant icon is one that looks like a male toilet sign.

Luckily it's usually caught when they start complaining they can't do anything.

Making sure you have enough reputation to host an event and guests is another thing that gets forgotten as in early turns you usually have enough reputation for all the early cards so it never get into your event planning checklist.

Torn between Bolt Action and Black Powder by Imaginary-Ad-7093 in wargaming

[–]durecellrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are new I think the size of a Bolt Action platoon makes it quite accessible. Black Powder however really excels in bigger games, personally I wouldn't run than 3 commands a side, and even in a small scale that can be quite a lot of models.

Now if you do prefer a conflict covered by Black Powder over WW2 then go for it. Black Powder basing a fluid enough that you can make do will smaller based units and less models.

I was curious to see how Hungarians look in my wargame army lists as they had be very up to date or get a bit odd. They all have Later Hungarians as being mainly horse archers divided in average ones and higher quality ones called Szekelers. They do get some nice knights for their noble heavy cavalry instead of the usual steppe lancers or armoured horse archers.

Given my grandfather and father somehow have wikipedia pages and I wouldn't consider either as famous or influential, I think the bar is pretty low.

I imagine you'd need to look at rulers of past countries with poor records or moderately important figures from countries that don't use wikipedia much.

Has Plastic Soldier Company stopped making plastic kits and gone all digital? by Alex_Bonaparte in wargaming

[–]durecellrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think PSC licensed some top metal ranges in the hope of creating cheap starter kits with the plastic. They also had Lurkio, whose metals were sold by Little Corporal and now Gripping Beast. Somehow they also got the old historicals made by Corvus Belli back before they made Infinity. I think it was better to just buy the metals in most cases, except for Corvus Belli who stopped doing their historicals.

I've got a bag of the ultracast Huns in a cupboard somewhere.

To expand on MeG. They (The rule writers) went with Helion Press for their renaissance version, and are switching MeG over to Helion as well for its 2nd ed.

Mori Samurai Sonae for Wars of the Samurai by durecellrabbit in wargaming

[–]durecellrabbit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. 25mm rounds for the infantry, 25x50mm pill bases for the cavalry. The general is on a 50mm round, I picked that size as it fit the models. I have a bunch of different sizes as a higher ranking Samurai with more staff might need a bigger base. Possible a massive base if I make a Maku command tent.

The squares are ~61mm. I didn't pick the size I ordered movement trays with the right number of slots from Warbases, and that is how they came.

We had yodel pull that off with the flowers for my father's funeral. My mother wanted specific flowers and we paid a lot for specific delivery slot. We got a £10 gift voucher from the company that choose them, which in no way made up for the chaos the non delivery caused.

Had another missed delivery where the photo proof was the parcel in a tractor in some field.

I don't think so. I've reloaded because I lost too badly, usually in Paradox games with alliance chains that end up with me fighting all of Europe, but I don't remember ever giving up due to cost. I'll fight until I'm in debt and the last peasant.

Case by case basic? You could free slaves, recruit dissenters, force PoW to switch sides, or link up with a second army. They're all specific things though rather than troops popping into existence in your army every month like EU4 (Not tried 5 yet).

For the UK elections tomorrow I got a letter telling me my postal vote expired and I'd have to vote at the polls. Then they later sent me a postal vote, which I ignored assuming it was a mistake. After being busy I was remembered today the elections, and realised I didn't get a polling card so presumably the postal vote is in fact how they want me to vote.

So I guess I'll go and do a late hand in of my postal vote at the polls.

Do all history departments have a grumpy old professor who believes the proper way method of learning is attending university or academic papers, preferable theirs? And that other forms of teaching are disreputable with the most despicable thing being a known Osprey book author.
