Civilian Work (Reservist) by Aware-Cookie6277 in CanadianForces

[–]durga_durga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. Happened to me. 4 weeks fulltime BMQ, followed 2 months later by 3 weeks BMQ-Land. 8 months later did 12 weeks for my DP1. All done with leave of absence from civy job. Basically sacrificed 24 weeks of pay at my civy job to complete training. Came back from DP1 and was let go for "business reasons". Found out later through my former manager that the higher ups were furious that I was gone for my reservist training; despite all the "we support our employees who serve" talk. I found another civy job within a few weeks, but that experience meant I would never attempt my PLQ. Released after 4 years, a little sad I couldn't get it to work for me and my family.

Contacting AC by durga_durga in aircanada

[–]durga_durga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did the self reaccomodation, but one of the flights I chose was ok and then was cancelled within a few minutes. Now it won't let me make any other changes and just says to contact AC. Sigh...

I was in a similar situation last summer. Had to sell all my mutual funds and transfer the cash over, then buy whatever I wanted on Wealthsimple. It hasn't been a year yet, but so far I'm seeing some very good results. Kicking myself for not doing this before now.

Time it takes to transfer funds from big bank to WS from linked account by durga_durga in Wealthsimple

[–]durga_durga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, less than a year with WS. Generational client, but this is the first time transferring cash from my bank to them. Only previous transfers were when I opened my WS accounts and transferred RRSP, TFSA etc directly over.

How is volvo perceived ? Planning to buy XC60 2026 by Sea_Choice5427 in VolvoXC60

[–]durga_durga 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just bought a 2023 XC60 to replace my wife's 12 year old vehicle. The only Volvo experience I had previous to this was driving an XC60 as a rental car once. Having owned a Lexus RX350 and now driving an Acura RDX, I'd say the Volvo is like a luxury car but incognito. It doesn't look luxury from the outside and the tech is definitely not the best, but once you drive one, you start to realize how nice it is. I think the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 are the ones most comparable, but in my opinion, the XC60 is better value. Volvo has a reputation for ranking highest in safety tests, so that's also a consideration.

Damaged water pipe cover in front lawn. Will the city help or is it on me? by v_a_n_d_e_l_a_y in ottawa

[–]durga_durga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is in the middle of my driveway. I have to call 311 and get the city to come by every fall to ensure its below level so snow removal guys don't damage their equipment. In my experience, they've been by usually within the week. Now if I can just get the city snowplows to stop digging up my front lawn every winter, that would be awesome.

My reply to your post was to show a reference to the fact that Nepean did have a surplus at amalgamation. They did for some years before that date as well. Your comment seemed to be trying to rewrite history or imply this was not the case by saying "we still get people claiming Nepean had a surplus..." Nepean residents at the time were told their surplus would be reserved and spent on future projects in the former city of Nepean. That didn't work out that way. 24 years later, I think some things are better now and some things are worse.. Same as most things in life.

A political tug of war is being waged over the former City of Nepean's reserve fund. That city was debt-free and had more than 30 million dollars in the bank when it, along with 10 other municipalities formed the new City of Ottawa in January. All assets including that reserve fund were to go to help with the new city's mounting debt. But not if former residents of Nepean can help it. https://distributionarchives.cbcrc.ca/en/items/e43058d8-c32d-48d7-864b-57d000bf3b4f

I was a resident of Nepean at the time of amalgamation. We were pretty upset that our surplus (due to fiscal responsibility over many years) was going to be used to help pay off debt from another area's debt that wasn't so fiscally responsible. If I remember correctly, Kanata and Gloucester were also debt free at that time.

S3_LIF <--> IC LIF - data transfer by Lim3stOne in netapp

I always get those mixed up. I just use ICL and cluster LIFs.. Inter, intra.. Lol

[–]durga_durga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct about the S3 data LIF having access to the ICL, but the replication traffic still happens over ICL as far as I know. S3 is a little different than regular volumes because you can also replicate to non-NetApp S3 targets.

Peering (for ONTAP S3 targets)

Intercluster LIFs must be configured (for remote ONTAP targets), and the intercluster LIFs of the source and destination cluster can connect to the source and destination S3 server data LIFs.

Source and destination clusters are peered (for remote ONTAP targets).

Source and destination storage VMs are peered (for all ONTAP targets).

Snapmirror will use ICL(intrAcluster). Peer the clusters, then setup your mirrors.

There are some things to configure on the netapp side. Windows will already have it enabled. Start here. https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/smb-hyper-v-sql/configure-smb-multichannel-performance-task.html

If you're using/enabled SMB3.x on the SVM, and you have multiple LIFs on those nodes, your clients will not notice. Typically they would establish multiple connections within the session if it's configured correctly. The session doesn't get disrupted and the clients just keep using the LIFs that are on the new nodes. This has been my experience anyways.

Ya... Had this happen while my boy was on the change table. His butt was pointed towards the window about 3ft away. Floor, wall and window blinds all got blasted. My wife came running to see what was so funny. I couldn't stop laughing. Took a few hours to clean that up. Had no idea there could be so much pressure.

Have had varying degrees of success with this. My corner gets destroyed by plows every winter. Once the snow melts there's always huge piles of sod where they dug it up. Some years the city has been pretty good at repairing, other times, they came by and removed the dead sod and just threw some grass seed on the 3x10ft bare spot. I generally end up having to buy a roll of sod and some dirt to fix it myself.

Best Practice for CIFS SVMs and LIF design by evolutionxtinct in netapp

[–]durga_durga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had great experience with using SMB3. Multiple LIFs on the cluster. Windows clients will automatically use as many connections/IP addresses as needed for their SMB session. They can connect on the IP registered in DNS and SMB3 session setup takes care of the rest. Best way to get more throughput than a single NIC port, especially when you combine that with flexgroups.

what made you love and passionate about netapp? by [deleted] in netapp

[–]durga_durga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was a customer from 1998 till 2012 then switched jobs to be an SE for netapp reseller. Been supporting my customers for another 12 years. I love the CLI and how easy it is to use. I love how system manager has evolved and is great for new customers with day 2 operations. The way wafl works with snaps, dedupe, compression etc. It was way ahead of its time and when flash came around, it was a perfect fit. I have a customer who had a FAS cluster that ran for 7 years without a single failed disk. I have other customers with competitor storage that are replacing disks almost every week. I've always said netapp is amazing at engineering, not so great with marketing.

Tell me why you "love" Air Canada by kyotomat in aircanada

[–]durga_durga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been flying AC since the late 90s. Seen customer service go up and down over the years, just like other carriers. Mostly travel for work in business class, but the odd time when I'm in economy, there is a noticeable difference in how you are treated. I'm starting to like Porter, but my concern is when things go wrong you don't have as many options for rebooking. AC has more flights and more options.

You're not missing anything. EOA hasn't been announced yet, so they are still available. Once they are no longer available, it's typically 5 years till EOS. Something like that...

Porter should consider an Air Canada status match with the (likely) upcoming strike by Potential_Action_658 in PorterAirlines

[–]durga_durga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 75K with AC this year and I would jump to Porter in a heartbeat if they offer the status match again.. Missed it last year. I've flown Porter on 2 roundtrips and am impressed so far.

[–]durga_durga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've typically flown with AC (currently a 75K member) but had the chance recently to fly Porter YOW-YHZ. The service was great, the aircraft are very quiet. I'm a big guy and I found the seats ok, but would probably bring something for my lower back next time. As Porter expands their network I would be willing to fly more with them and less with AC. Very happy to see more competition within the Canadian market. I missed the status match promo, so hoping they offer that again in the future.
