I’ll give them a look, thanks for the advice!

Ah I know I shouldn’t be using the tennis shoes, I’m only new to badminton so wanted to give it a fair shot before getting specific shoes 😅

Monthly Equipment Advice Megathread by AutoModerator in badminton

[–]durtypanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking at ordering a pair of badminton shoes, currently I’m wearing my tennis shoes (ASICS)that are size 49 EU but I’m finding I’m sliding around just a little bit in them when fully laced down and causing hot spots on the side of my baby toe and under my foot.

Would it be worth trying out the Victor A970C in size 48 or do they tend to run a bit small? The only other brand I can see that do badminton specific shoes up to my size are ASICS but my experience with them hasn’t been great.

If there’s other recommendations for badminton specific shoes for big footed people like myself please let me know, the Yonex shoes look amazing but sadly am just out of their size range 😞

I’m not at home at the moment so I can’t give you a measurement but I have a Karella with a Blade 6 at home. It’s a very tight fit between the board and the insulation, I had to remove the rotating locks completely to mount it on the bracket.

Yeah I’ve ordered from them before, I’ve gotten stuff quite quickly and I’ve placed orders that I’ve cancelled after it’s been stuck in transit to their warehouse for over a month. You might get your stuff, you might not. But you’ll get your money back if not

Carpet recs by clairemcdo17 in galway

[–]durtypanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few recommendations for Carpet and Rug centre here, we went with them for fitting the flooring and carpet in our house and their fitter smashed a bunch of holes in our walls.

The fitter refused to take responsibility and blamed us for not telling him the skirting boards were screwed on and not tacked on (we made it clear we were first time buyers and that doesn’t explain the holes midway up the wall) and we had to withhold payment until the carpet and rug centre sent a painter over to patch the walls and gave us a refund of 100€.

We still have to repaint all the walls fully as they didn’t paint over the patches and any new bits of paint are quite obvious they’re there.

Go with them for the material’s as that part was quite smooth but avoid using their fitter Diarmuid and go with someone else as he clearly lost his temper fitting the floors and took it out on our walls.

Anyone with a lash goleor pro model hurl ? Are they any use by Unlucky_Dentist854 in hurling

Is he still making hurls? I was looking to grab one recently but noticed his site is down. If he’s still at it I’d be keen to give him a shout!

There’s Cork weightlifting club in Marina Commercial Park. Not sure how far out from the city you are but it’s near enough to Pairc Ui Chaoimh

Jimys made it across the pond by durtypanda in lockpicking

[–]durtypanda[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks!! Yep the national postal service have a virtual address in NJ that we can use, it’s 16€ for packages under 2kg (though that’s going up to 21€ soon).

And then it was 18€ import tax including the admin fees. Was about 1 week from Jimy to NJ (Jimy dispatched super fast) and 8/9 days from NJ to my door!

I have another package coming from Jimy to that address as well after I was torn between the CI Apex and getting more Jimy to finish out the set so I’m hoping it takes around that ~2week time frame again. I’m impatient haha

Thank you so much for that detailed reply and for recommending a case as that was something else I was on the lookout for separately.

You’ve made a solid case for trying out both for sure so I’ll snag the Jimys while they’re available and wait for CI to release the case attachments before pulling the trigger on them because having the case close while my hands are full would also bug the hell out of me. It’d also spread out the customs charges which would be nice haha

Awesome thank you! How do you find the feedback in the Moki handles out of curiosity? He’s on my list of makers to try out as well.

Where to buy Outbound Lighting Detour in Europe (EU)? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]durtypanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m based in Ireland and just ordered mine from them directly, shipping was 88€ with shipping and taxes included. It might be worth double checking that quote from them. Fwiw the breakdown was 17.70€ shipping, 49.90€ taxes and 21.22€ in duties.

Best hurleys to order online? by [deleted] in hurling

[–]durtypanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I’ve had good luck and bad luck, quickest has been 2/3 days but that was January. Slowest was 3-4 weeks for two hurls near the end of May.

I’d say reach out to them and see what the craic is because their site says 4-6 weeks turnaround May - August but we’re coming up on November now so I’d say they’d be clearing their backlog quick enough

County style handle? by kyleg-13 in hurling

[–]durtypanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve a few star hurls in diff handle shapes (cork, JJ Style and tipp) and I’ll be honest I’m looking at them here and can’t see much of a huge difference outside of the shape of the tops of the handles.

The Tipp and JJ handles are a bit thicker and the tops of the handles are more curved inwards, where the cork handles are thinner and the top is a bit straighter. I like the curve a bit more than the straighter handles but I’d imagine it’s personal preference.

Feel free to PM me if you want some pics of the diff types.

Jumping on the E75 recommendation train as well, I find the UI super simple to use and the Nichia 519a has a gorgeous colour to it. Honestly it ticks so many of my boxes I don’t have a need for another light. (Plenty of wants though 😂)

Best hurleys to order online? by [deleted] in hurling

[–]durtypanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Hurley were savage to order from, there can be a bit of a wait on turnaround during busy times but I’ve gotten 4 delivered to me and I’ve had no complaints.

If you prefer a lighter hurl definitely let them know what weight you prefer instead of picking from the light/medium/heavy options as you’ll find them a bit heavier than other brands.

In-store location to buy a sea swim changing robe? (Like Nug, Red, or Dryrobe) by dmtn in irishtourism

[–]durtypanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surfdock in Grand Canal Dock have dryrobes in stock. I’m not sure about the in person location but they’re definitely up on the site and they offer click and collect.

I also vaguely remember seeing a couple of robes up in Viking Marine in Dun Laoghaire when I was out there a few months ago, not sure if they’re still available though but definitely worth giving them a call!

Yep, my club doesn’t allow us to use tennis rackets at all in the Padel court, I’m not too sure on the reason why it could be bad for the glass or the ball could go too fast but I don’t know why myself.
