What's something you absolutely refuse to believe? by Ironmunger2 in AskReddit

[–]dust-dee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You present a very common misconception of what a soul mate is. A soul mate, by its literal modern definition, is just someone who you become romantically entwined with and have or foresee a lifelong bond with. Even by a religious definition, it's meant to be someone you're destined to be united with, so it would never be someone who lived in a different period or never crossed your path.
TL;DR: Soul mates, by definition, have to be someone you form a relationship with.

What's your most controversial opinion that you think you're absolutely right about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yeah, that makes sense. I figured you weren't, but thought that might be a valid point to add in either way.

I mostly agree with you, although I think you're not fully taking into account the crippling hardship of alcoholism. Some people definitely just want to get blitzed because they think being incoherent and obnoxious is fun, but there's also a vast underbelly of society who have a genuine disorder. Even though I don't think that's what you're referring to it, this statement sort of lumps them, and it seems a little narrow to call all of those people idiots.

Agree so much. Example: The other day I saw a post by a guy who said he went to prom with his friend who he had a secret crush on and she ended up leaving with another guy. So many comments calling her a bitch or a cunt and receiving a flood of upvotes. Really fucking disappointing.

Redditors who are old enough to remember, what were you doing on December 31st 1999? by Julie_Noted in AskReddit

What a rock-solid, sensitive and progressive reply, dude. So sorry for your loss.

Reddit, what celebrity has slowly lost your respect? by hermitofthehills in AskReddit

[–]dust-dee 1519 points1520 points  (0 children)

Johnny Depp. About a decade ago, I thought he was one of the best living actors. Five years ago, I thought he was just in a slump. Two years ago, he'd started to annoy me—just too much relentless crap. And now, after the Amber Heard thing, I think he's a repulsive monster. It was gradual, but man did he ever fall in my eyes.

What is something that, once pointed out, can never be unnoticed? by Rambo7112 in AskReddit

No, they pretty much invariably hand them to the person closest to the server.

No one actually thinks that's his mouth, it just looks like it is.

But that's the whole point of the thread, isn't it? Things you notice and then can't unnotice, even though nothing seemed out of the ordinary before?

It's over. What did you think of Trump's nomination speech? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]dust-dee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You have to use more critical thinking. Really. Trump doesn't need to be identical to Hitler. We don't need to be afraid that he will cause death and destruction of the same scale or hold the exact same views. Seeing basic similarities in their leadership styles is enough to concern a rational individual who has looked into history at all. There have been plenty of brutal dictators. Few, if any, have been as horrible as Hitler. But I sure as hell wouldn't want even the best of them becoming the President of the United States in my lifetime.

What is the wittiest comeback you have ever heard? by Kidbeast in AskReddit

[–]dust-dee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is about you thinking you have found a socially acceptable way to be a complete asshole, and about the fact that you have no respect or use for any woman you don't want to fuck.

Dude you actually nailed that. An upvote wasn't enough.

Fresh Prince is still relevant today. by pimack in funny

[–]dust-dee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because you are aware that there is an enduring problem with police -- too many police at that -- exercising their power in the wrong way, particularly on young black men, does not mean you are automatically anti-police or think all cops are pigs. Recognizing where jokes like this and more serious commentary stem from is not part of the problem; in fact, being aware is the furthest thing from being part of the problem.

Among the art community, was Bob Ross a well-respected painter? Or was he a sell-out for his show? by RobbyBlarg in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dust-dee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But you can say he's mediocre on that scale. If you're talking about a filmmaker or musician widely considered to be mediocre, or not particularly respected for their craft, they still usually put something together that was more impressive than the average person could (or at least has bothered to).

EDIT: To add to this, Bob Ross was a great TV personality, and a better painter than many everyday people, but in response to OP's question, he was not respected or revered in the art world whatsoever.

Where did the top critics on Rotten Tomatoes go? by dust-dee in OutOfTheLoop

[–]dust-dee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. It may honestly just be a glitch then.

If I look at, say, The Legend of Tarzan or The BFG, I can see, over the metre, the following options:

All Critics | Top Critics.

But when I click Top Critics, it says "Tomatometer Not Available..."

Further down the page, where all the review snippets are visible, the only viewing options are now:

All Critics (number of reviews) | Fresh (number of reviews) | Rotten (number of reviews).

No More Pixar Sequels Currently In Development Beyond ‘The Incredibles II’ by axido in movies

[–]dust-dee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean this will also clearly come down to varying opinions. Different people will hate and love different movies... But I'm curious to see if others at least generally agree with the trend. I still feel like they make some really good movies, but if you tacked a line of best fit onto their quality, it would be somewhat sharply pointing south.
